Next Civ game most likely will be a fantasy game

I know very little about the Marvel Universe, so I have no idea whether I should feel excited or depressed. But I mean, it's Xcom, so it'll probably be good.

No, it's an X-COM-style game. So, turn based, squads, top down. It will probably have nothing to do with X-COM other than the genre similarities, just like Unreal is no Quake or vice versa. Humankind will probably be more like Civ than this Marvel game will be like X-COM.

Imho, Fall From Heaven is the ultimate fantasy civ spin-off. Immersive lore, creative concepts and mechanics. Alas.. Kael, the creator, stated that he won't continue working on the project.

It seems improbable, i don't think there will ever be a Ffh game with modern civ franchises. But I even like to dream of it.

All I know is that I don't care much for fantasy zombies/ghouls/skeletons/magic witches & warlocks mixed in with my Civ experience. Or my X-Com experience, for that matter. I hated XC2/WOTC for that reason. Give me history or real sci-fi alien creatures, but please not the same hackneyed tripe of magic baloney or Warhammer extreme tomfoolery.
Oh, and a machaca burrito with a side of chipotle sauce, thank you.

real sci-fi alien creatures
:shifty: I know I haven't followed the news very closely lately, but...I feel like I would have heard about this. :mischief:

Not necessarily: regular human behavior is so Unreal these days that "real sci-fi alien" doesn't even make page 3 any more . . .

Well the 2K leak mentions only one Firaxis game (Marvel) and Firaxis will reveal "Several new projects this year" so I think a Civ announcement some time this year is possible.

Besides I think there must be some reason that the civilization twitter is so active. I belive Civ VII announcement 2021 or 2022 and release in 2022.
My prediction is that they'll use the winner of.the Twitter comp to announce (or at least foreshadow) the next batch of content for Civ, probably on the last day. Or they'll chain events like this and on a later iteration make the suggestion.

I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me.

Meh, it looks like filler to me, though it is curious that they are keeping social media engaged with Civ.

As I remember, there have been calls for a Civ-Sequel Science-Fiction game ever since SMAC came out, especially since the Civ at the time (can't remember now if it was Civ 2 or 3) had an end-game goal of building a space ship and taking off for Alpha Centauri, and obvious Start Point for the SMAC game!

Given that SMAC was a very, very good stand-alone Science Fiction game, but BE is, to be honest, a science fiction game that appears to have been designed by people who heard of science fiction but never actually read any, coupling Civ to BE would not, IMHO, be a winning combination . . .

That may be the most brilliant summary of everything wrong with BE that I've ever heard. Good sci-fi needs good worldbuilding to pull you into the setting, and BE thought it could be lazy and clever at the same time by leaving everything vague. A little vagueness can add mystery to the setting; too much vagueness leaves you with nothing to sink your teeth into. BE was decidedly in the latter category.

Sadly, I'm not sure any spinoff is coming now. I doubt they'll announce anything more until the Marvel game is out. And the most likely next release date would be October 2022, which might well be Civ 7 at that point.

Wonder what the other Firaxis games to be announced this year are.
Unlikely any.

Friaxis doesn't like to hype compete with itself. My guess is they let this game come out and breathe a little before they make any more announcements. That being said, I think they will have another game release in fall of next year and have just been a little backed up due to the pandemic issues.
