Next Civ game most likely will be a fantasy game

Personally, I was under the impression that the terms "project" could refer to either a new game or things like expansion packs. Perhaps I'm wrong and I'm the conspiracy theorist for not reading into things...

Yeah the headline says "several games", but in the actual article article it says "several new projects"? :crazyeye:

FINALLY! A definitive answer that a human mind can actually comprehend, and it doesn't have the vagueness of the Greek Oracle, haha!!

This is a happy day indeed, although there is also some sorrow in me, as this pretty much confirms that Civ 6 is ending. Then again, we have our conspiracy theorists here... :mischief:
Civ 6 is NOT dead! I heard they hired Elvis Presley to record voice over for a Civ2-style advisers mod.

Actually yes, "projects" could mean more content for Civ VI.

However, look at the messaging and communication from Firaxis recently.
They called the April update the last or final one for Civ VI.
There's the Thank You video.
And the devs finally took to social media to communicate their thanks to the community fans.

So it does look like the end of Civ VI.
But according to Take Two CEO clearly not the end for Civ ;)

They were quoted as saying "projects" and the author interpreted that to refer to games, but that's not necessarily what was being said. Honestly, like half of the stuff people use to support their conclusions on this matter, it really shouldn't be taken to mean much specifically in regards to Civ 6.

It was for NFP, not Civ VI, it was said so multiple times. Additionally, Andrew Johnson said that we shouldn't take it as a hint that Civ 6 is over - that's good enough for me. I should stress though that his comment should be construed to mean that there is more content either. Just that these aren't hints either way.

There's the Thank You video.
I've been distracted as of late, I'm not sure I know about this? I may have, and just forgotten though.

And the devs finally took to social media to communicate their thanks to the community fans.
This is what's actually swinging me towards it being over for Civ 6. I'm not sure it would have been organised otherwise and it does feel like the curtain call.

I don’t know what post of his you are referring to but I find it hard to believe he would comment on that with any level of certainty. More likely he was making some comment and included a note to us to not read anything into it.

If I’m mistaken please find the post in question because I’ll be happy to be wrong!

I can't remember the thread, but it was about the hoodies and he made a point of saying that he didn't believe it was a hint and found it terrifying (if I remember how he worded it correctly) how much people were reading into it - hence why it shouldn't be taken as a hint that there is content. His point was that all this reading into things was seeing things that weren't there, in response to one of my posts saying something similar. Could he be wrong? Sure, but it seems an odd thing to say if he knew that they really were hints. As far as I'm concerned, his comments were basically confirming what I've been warning all along - don't read into things.

I'm surprised you've not seen the official thank you video from Firaxis.
Ah yes, I had seen it, I'd just forgotten about it. Thanks for digging it up.

Basically, from where I stand, the whole thing about whether this signals the end of Civ VI rests on the fact that they are making a big deal of NFP (and pretty much all the comments and evidence presented as meaning the end of Civ VI are pretty explicitly talking about NFP), and the implication that in doing so, they're signalling the end of Civ VI as a whole. It should also be noted that a lot of the reasons why people are adding to what's being said, like with the article posted earlier. Firaxis said "projects" and the author translated that to "games". In understandable leap, but nonetheless those are two different things and ended up putting words into Firaxis' mouth. We have to be careful of that.

I've been somewhat swayed by the argument that the Developers are making a big deal of the end of NFP which signals their washing of their hands of Civ 6, but nothing conclusive has come forward. They've made a big deal of NFP the entire cycle, so it's not completely out of the blue that they made a big deal of the end.

As I said, I'm leaning towards Civ 6 being done, but it's premature to declare it as a done deal.

A Marvel XCOM style game, Borderlands spin-off and a game codenamed Volt:

https://venturebeat.com/2021/06/03/...e-from-2k-is-real-so-is-the-rest-of-the-leak/

The Firaxis game is a turn-based strategy game but with Marvel superheroes. The leak pitches it as “XCOM with Marvel heroes,” and that is a fair way of describing what players should expect. XCOM has players commanding agents in small skirmishes, and now Firaxis will weave some Avengers flavor into that foundation. So expect to see Iron Man, Wolverine, and others to show up for this one.

Finally, Codename Volt is a new sci-fi action game that also brings in magic and other supernatural capabilities for the player and the enemies. Again, the leak does a good job of summing up what to expect calling it “Cthulhu meets Saints Row.” This is the new game from Hangar 13, which previously created Mafia III for 2K Games.

The day is going to come (it may be here already) when 2K is just going to give up on Civ style 4x games. There's more easy money in mobile games and licensed clones of other games.
I saw it happen with Daedalic. Ten years ago they made the best adventure games. Now they've become a cheap mid-sized publisher. :(

Civ VI sold 11 million copies, any publisher would love to have Firaxis on their ranks!

I belive there will alwayd be a market for good strategy games.

Yup, which also means that Civ7 will be an improved Civ6, since the formula works sales wise and after the 76 debacle nobody is gonna arbitrarily change a money making scheme

The argument could be made that Civ5 and 6 are already a mobile style game:

Win Harder mechanics
Cartoony style graphics
History is set dressing only

Well the 2K leak mentions only one Firaxis game (Marvel) and Firaxis will reveal "Several new projects this year" so I think a Civ announcement some time this year is possible.

Besides I think there must be some reason that the civilization twitter is so active. I belive Civ VII announcement 2021 or 2022 and release in 2022.
