300bc(cont'd)- Neuma production changed from archer to settler. Reverse at CJ. Reneaux warrior sent NW. LN warrior sent E. GG $2 IPRB caravan. RC hire scientist. Change production from warrior to archer.

Viking team - legion and dip stay put. Chariot moves SE to lure Viking Legion.

275bc- Viking horseman spotted on River near Dellham and undefended Neuma!

WLTQD in RC!!! NUF population 600,000+

Neuma production changed to warrior. LC builds archer and starts archer. Archer goes for a little explore. CJ builds archer and starts temple.

Viking legion bribed for $130

250bc- Dellham builds settler and starts temple. Civil Disorder!

Viking horseman reappeared. Warlord Canute requests audience. We laughed at their tribute demands of $100, so they declared war on us! In return, our dip bribes the horseman for $66. Bargain!! Horseman sent north.

Neuma builds warrior and starts settler.

Viking warrior discovered on peninsula. It attacked our NONE legion - and lost!! :D

225bc- Order restored in Dellham. OP phalanx moved NE and Elvis hired. RC $4 IPRB archer.

Viking settler found, then Roskilde! and an archer.

I honestly thought that Viking city was farther away...

In that case, because of our new state of war, an all out attack on the Viking settlement seems to make sense.

At least I've got a great new headline for The Fanatical.

Let's just revolt it, we could do with the units and it wasnt that dear. How long until we can afford it?

I don't like it. If he has more than one unit in there and we attack, even if we win that fight, we could be damaged enough for the second unit to finish off the legion. Then we'd be trying to use a crippled chariot and a diplomat with out enough cash. Not good.

If we step back the legion and the diplomat, change the tax rate to 60% or more we can bribe the city next turn. That would give us a forward base to fight the Vikings from, as well as a place to heal the chariot.

I would also consider fortifing the horseman on the hill square E of the bananas. That way he can at least watch the coast for any more landings....

Couple of other thoughts:

Do we think the Vikings got the legion from a hut, or do they have Iron working (which I just noticed, we do not). If so, do we want Map Making or Iron working when we get the city. I'm leaning towards Map Making so we have the ability to turn the tables on them and invade their continent. Since we will be very cash poor if we buy the city, I'm not too hopeful of bribing a boat anytime soon.

Map Making would be my choice. We still need to expand our empire and keep producing settlers/ settler guards.

Should we be thinking of founding villages in this area as soon as possible? IMHO, I think we should.

We will have enough cash in2 turns, or one if we tweak the tax rate. I agree we should have a slight withdrawl - then bribe

As a seasoned campaigner for the 'boat brigade' I have to agree, exploration and expansion have stagnated for long enough!

Grrrr.... Trust the AI to settle in a stupid location and miss the whales   :(

I suggest that whatever we do, we look to disband the city or destroy it and build it in the "proper" place.

Out of interest, how far down the city list is Roskilde? I thought it was only 3rd or 4th

I don't know if it's considered a cheat to check where Trondheim is in the "find city" window, whjich we can since they have a wonder in the city. If it's not, we can see the viking treasury by using the bribe-formula in the scrolls of ancient wisdom.
Cost= ((Enemy gold +1000)/(distance to capital + 3))*citysize

We know cost and size, and maybe we can find out distance. No other factors seems to affect the price, they probably haven't built a courthouse in the city and they still have a palace.

I don't know if we can use this knowledge, maybe someone else knows a good way to use it?:)

Here's the link to the formula:

Do we have any improvements that we can sell because its probably best to bribe the city now rather than wait for them to possibly bring reinforcements.

Why njot just bribe the boats bringing the reinforcements?

And does the AI tend to bring reinforcements anyway? I thought it just tended to expand amorphously?

Our Grandfathers' wishes are to destroy Roskilde, since it ruins an old plan of a 4Special Site. We have time. Better to plan the founding of many new great cities, while amassing an army to obliterate it, and steal Map Making. Send up the LC Archer!

My Queen, our hunters should destroy the filthy Viking encroachment. Roskilde is merely their 7th city, half our number!

175BC Status: 620,000 people in 15 cities. 110 gold, 30,00,70% With changes marked below: F5 $21 -4, Sci 52 in 6 turns. F11 Mfg=53, Family Size=5.4. One Scientist, optional, and only 2 entertainers. NUF is still #1 in everything that matters: Population, Manufacturing, Land Area and Productivity, and #2 in Family Size.

300BC Status: 530,000 people in 15 cities. 231 gold, 30,00,70% F5 $19 -3, Sci 40 in 7 turns. F11 Mfg=47, FS=5.6   We are still #1 in Population, Manufacturing, Land Area and Productivity. Only #2 in Family Size, perhaps due to 5 Entertainers.

The Road from REGIA CIVITAS to Castle Jayne is nearly completed. This is significant, in that our Northern cities can now ship Caravans down the river to Elysium SSC or REGIA CIVITAS.

Researching Construction (due in about 6 turns), known: Alphabet, Bronze, CBurial, CodeLaws, Currency, HBR - Horse Back Riding, Literacy, Masonry, Monarchy, Mysticism, Philosophy, Pottery, Trade, WarriorCode and Writing.

We are about to construct our 16th City, North Whale Point, and rehome its Archer Guard.

We are in a position to found many cities. We have settlers arriving constantly at Castle Jayne, and plenty of spare Warriors, Archers, even a new Horse! I still recommend River City, SE of the Forest, and other sites in Chryshe as well.

We have 4 cities that could build anything: REGIA CIVITAS (Wonder, Caravan or Diplomat?), Little Nemo (another Settler?), Civvium (Diplomat or Caravan?), and Gabba Gabba (Archer or Caravan?).

Our BedFont Lakes Wine Caravan Plan is about to hatch, and GG built Dye in lieu of Hides.

Should we maintain 30% Tax and 70% Science? Expenses have been running high, and there is the new possibility of purchasing the Viking City Roskilde. Our Grandfathers' wishes are to destroy Roskilde, since it ruins an old plan of a 4Special Site.

We have 3 Temples and 1 Library. Our Library of Elysium is 60/80, due in 4 turns.

We own one caravan, are constructing 2 Settlers, 3 Caravans, 3 Archers. That assumes Civvium builds a caravan. RC could also build a Caravan or Diplomat. We are building 5 Temples (Reneaux completes in 7 turns).

REGIA CIVITAS employs a Scientist. We could send him to work the Plains, costing only one beaker but gaining 1 food and 1 shield of production.

Move Warrior back into Civvium, grows in 7 ok, could produce a Silver Caravan, demanded by RC!

Move Warrior out of Neuma, serf to Ocean, Settlers in 17, grows in 14, so serf to Forest in 8 turns.

Little Nemo has produced another Settler, which could N and Road Plains, then march to Castle Jayne and found a Chryshe City. Irrigate or Road on the way? No LN Irrigation seems necessary. What to build next? Another Settler...

Bedfont Lakes: Freeze growth and work the Forest? Or prolong use of a Roaded Shield in either Civvium's or TFalls' territories? It can grow without a guard up to size 2, perhaps recommended.
Wine Caravan 39/50 in 4 turns then rehome in RC, Trade route to ELysium.

Civvium, has Temple and Warrior Police, can grow, can build anything. Caravan! or Diplomat?

TFalls, Temple 15/40 in 9, grows in 12.

Gabba Gabba, can build anything. Another Caravan, Hides?
Freeze growth serf to Roaded Plains.

Elysium, Library 60/80 in 4. Then start a Wonder? Grows in 14, or sooner if we move the Gems serf to a Roaded GrassLand Shield (presently worked by CJ).

Mordhiemia, Archers 18/30 in 4 turns, then build what? Settlers?
Marl Downs, Temple 15/40 in 9 turns.
Dellham, Move Archer out, serf to River Shield
then Temple 6/40 in 9, grows in 13 turns.
Castle Jayne, Temple 12/40 in 10 turns. Spare Archer or Phalanx...
Legendary City, Archers 16/30 in 4, change to Caravan?
Be ready to move Phx out before riot! Temple?...

Settlers:
LN to Road Forest, then on down to Civvium? Or irrigate BedFont Lakes (rather not)?
New LN Settler, N to Road Plains!? then head West?
TFalls has completed Irrigation, good. Head West? NW N Road?
TFalls near CJ, complete Road to CJ, then found River City, SE of Forest?
MD, Road due North to OP?
Reneaux to complete Wine Mine.
Dellham Road South to LC, including Oasis?

I'm frustrated  I couldn't get on the forum yesterday (kept getting errors) and hoped others had the same problem so maybe Jayne would have delayed moving. I had a great plan. Move Gabba Gabba serf from unroaded GLS to roaded plain, send the Warrior stationed outside Gabba Gabba to Little Nemo, allowing Elvis to go back to work, and science drops back to every 6 turns without having to hire a Scientist!

Oh well, now all my other notes are obsolute as well.

Was Polytheism available as a tech? That was the other thing I was going to post yesterday was an updated Science report :

Astronomy still main goal (need Mathematics next), with Map Making as our alternate tech, and Polytheism as our second alternate tech.

Also, I may not be able to be here much the next few days into the weekend. I don't think there will be any major decisions needed for Science, but if so can someone step forward and post any needed polls? thanks :)

Last post for hours. When the demand changes, I just turn around and use the caravan to build a wonder. In the Gotm, even the current Gotm21, about half the time the demand stays while the caravan walks over, and half the time they 'Cancel the Order'. Demand Trade deliveries are worth all the trouble!

The big question: destroy Roskilde, or buy it? If our Citizens can decide on that, everything else follows. I say, Destroy Roskilde, forget about buying it. Just Bribe None units when they sally.
