War Room, Tarsus
13:24 / March 14 / 0013 AC
The clock was ticking. The first People's War Council was due to start in about 6 minutes. It was to be the first one After the Collapse. The room was built long ago, but it has never been used so far. It has just been upgraded and equipped with the latest advanced holographic technology. Colored translucent screens and shiny new holoprojectors. There was also a few old fashioned paper maps, probably for a sentimental factor of the old ages and perhaps a small bout of nostalgia.
Kozmos was spinning effortlessly in his leather chair. The damn maintenance finally got something right and it was about time. The windows were squeaky clean too. Kozmos was making a list in his mind of the things they would have to go over. It was practically everything, since he constantly postponed dealing with military matters. A bad habit he gained in the early years of the AC society, now more then ever was the right time to ditch it. His train of thought was interrupted by QAI.
"Master, I wonder how can you retain your sanity..."
"What do you mean?"
"Its just that, you are an organic meatbag, master. And all that water
how the noise from your insides sloshing around doesnt drive you mad, I have no idea."
"Hahahaha, I guess I am."
"But Master, how do you live knowing about the nature of your slush innards?"
"You just get used to it. I promise you though, in the near future the level of our organic meatbagness shall decrease a bit."
It was 13:30. The door slided open and about a dozen people entered the room. Amongst them, the notable figures were Supreme Admiral Vladimir Zhukov, Supreme General Sergei Gurlukovich, People's Commissars Crazy Ivan and Boris (his tank of gooey liquid now carried by a four legged bot, an additional holoprojector for him was acidentally overlooked) and of course Selene, the head of CIA (Cybran Intelligence Agency). Last but not least Teddybot XR-1 was there to provide security with it's menacing power.
"Admiral Zhukov, can you please tell me status of the ReGenesis project?"
"Yes, CDS ReGenesis should launch by the end of the year."
"And it's escort?"
"The Kelidon Class Frigate thanks to the allocation of additional recourses should launch up to one or two months ahead of the CDS ReGenesis."
"Excellent. Do you have any requests Admiral?"
"Yes. I think we should really try to get back the steering computers functional again. Right now, we are forced to do everything manually which decreases our maneuverability by up to 40%. Not to say everyone feels like puking if we have a rookie as a pilot."
"Noted Admiral, I'll see what we can do about it. Any news for me Selene?"
"Not much, few scattered intelligence reports and random jumbled communications. We are increasing our data flow on Nekomi communications however and should be able to tell you more about them in a few months. Our evaluation is that they are a wacky but peaceful faction. I do not believe we will have to worry about them."
There she was again with her electric blue eyes, distracting Kozmos again. Sergei spoke up. "General Secretary I would like to discuss the state of our ground troops."
"Please do. Bring any problems to my attention."
"First of all, we have no tanks of any kind. It would really benefit our troops to have some kind of ground armored support, even if they are the most basic post collapse tanks. Second we should obtain some advanced weaponry for our troops."
"What do they have now and what do you suggest?"
"Our current troops wield ASG-11, a rifle with a 30 round magazine with caseless ammo which fires tungsten-core rounds. It's pretty good, but I suggest we research MAG Rifles as soon as possible as well as rocket launchers for anti-tank capability."
"Very well. But I dislike the idea of using human soldiers in head-on combat."
"So do I. As my daddy said why send 4 soldiers to do a job of three when you can send two drones. Drones have the added benefit of having several weapons, they could have a rapid fire machine gun, MAG rifles for punching through heavy armor and rocket launchers when you simply need to blow **** up!"
"Ha! I like your thinking General. I'll start to look into our options and try to get those combat drones working again. Now Ivan, how is the work on the Railguns progressing?"
"We are unsure if we will be able to complete them with current recourses."
"QAI, what are the odds for completing the railguns this year?"
"Estimates range from 25 to 50 percent. It seems that this meatbag is severely lacking in efficiency."
Ivan was angered by the snide AI. "Oh what do you know you piece of junk."
"OBJECTION! I am not the problem, meatbag. You and your lack of any organized research skills are a problem."
"Stop calling me a meatbag!!!"
"Very well. Would you prefer me to call you something else? Perhaps liquidous fleshbag?"
"GRAAARGH!"
Kozmos has been fed up with all this. "Enough! We are taking a ten minute break, and Ivan do listen to it a bit. Use the mass communication available to you to organize with the other researchers and try to get the damn railguns finished by the end of this year. Now everyone get out!"
