Not Researching Astronomy

Since it is not a requirement to research astronomy to unlock sci meth and it is not a prerequisite for any techs beyond the Renaissance era, do you guys have any situations where you can skip researching astronomy? For one, I see if you want to prolong stonehenge and colossus and you don't want to plan or expect any naval invasion until you obtain combustion, this can be probably feasible.

On Pangaea maps where you don't need naval invasions, Astronomy is definitely a low-priority tech.

The only time i ever tech it is if I'm running a GLH trade economy and there are multiple continents.

If there are multiple continents, you're going to want Astronomy whether or not you have the GLH. Resource trading/selling is worth it as is. Let alone the intercontinental trade routes. On a Pangea map (or other single land mass), Astronomy is much less important.

You do because you can't research Physics without Astronomy.

Astro is prereq for physics which is prereq for lots of good stuff like flight, artillery, electricity, industrialism, radio etc. AIs usually research it and it becomes availablefor trade at some point so its not essential to tech it yourself but its still good to have.

who wants to prolong stonehenge? Alco collosus is not so nice except failgold or financial leaders. Pangea does not benefit from collosus too and with nice inland beaurocap earlier observatory is better than collosus.
