Now Is The Future!

GPS passed it onto Dazz, fingers crossed he will be able to take his turn.

Here is some more bad news for you all. I will be out of town the 24th of July to the 31st :(

I guess Dazz and I should have coordinated our trips better!

Turn done and sent.

Signing off now for two weeks of getting p**s .... er .... sorry - getting a suntan and soaking up the local culture (culture being the new name for the local brew) :D

I have teh file. Will pay tonight.

Are we going to patch 1.74? If so, when? I don't want to have all my PBEM's at different versions.

A new patch! Is it for Mac as well? If it is I can switch whenever.

Just to make everything LAME again I am going to be out of town from the 25th until the 1st. I'll try to play the turn I just got before I leave. Won't be till tomorrow night though.

Then after that… Let's kick it old school and tear this mutha out!

We need to upgrade the game. The administrator has to do it. A friend of mine sent me this e-mail.

This means that I have to be the one to update the game by first loading it using the previous version, removing the admin password, saving the game, reloading the game with the new version, resetting the admin password, and then playing my turn. While this is a hassle, it is a much better option than remaining on the previous version. Hence, we will be updating these games to their new versions - but please retain a copy of the previous version of Civilization IV and Civilization IV - Warlords (if applicable) to that you may continue to play turns in those of my games that have not yet been updated.

This means that whoever started the game needs to be the first one to upgrade it. As soon as the game administrator upgrades it you need to let the rest of us know so we can play this game with the new save. Unfortunately, that means you may have to play with two versions of the game until all your PBEMs are upgraded. That's a simple process. All you have to do is copy the entire Civ4 folder. Rename your new Civ4 folder to whatever you want (such as Civ4 Old Version). Then patch your current Civ4 game to the new version. Then just play whatever game you are playing with whatever patch the game is on until all your games are played using the current version. As soon as that happens, you can delete your "Civ4 Old Version" folder.

Instructions for a dual-install (shamelessly stolen from the HOF sub-forum :))

1. Copy "Sid Meier's Civilization IV" in Program Files/Firaxis Games, to "Sid Meier's Civilization IV v1.61".

2. Rename "Sid Meier's Civilization IV" in My Documents/My Games, to "Sid Meier's Civilization IV v1.61".

3. Install the BTS.

4. Run from one directory or the other to get the version you want.

You'll also be able to install mods separately for the two versions, save games will be separate for the two versions, etc. The new version will have a clean install with no mods, which is probably what you want (since many old mods won't work).

Step 3 could also be "Patch the game". To make Step 4 easier, I would create a shortcut to "Civ IV v1.61" and another to "Civ IV v1.74" and stick them on your desk top (or where-ever).

Turn Played and Sent! I am back for good and ready to play!

I can't find any Mac upgrade/patch called 1.74

All I can find is the patch for 1.61 rev C, which is what I have been playing. It looks like they haven't made the mac patch yet so I can't upgrade! Sorry if this forces all of you to keep a 1.61 game going just because of me.

:(

Tim,
That is odd. You should be able to load your game, hit the advanced button, hit the "check for updates" button. The game will patch automatically. If you can't patch then this does cause a problem. Before I patched I copied my civ4 folder so I could run a dual install. Something happened when I did that and I can't run the old version anymore, only the newest patched version. I can still play the old version on my old computer which is fine for now. However, in about 3 months I will be back down to one computer. So either we have to patch this game, I will have to figure out how to install civ4 again with the old patch, or somebody will have to drop from this game :(

I did everything exactly as you wrote it. The problem is that the game downloads an .exe file. As a mac user I can't use that file. That Patch can only be used by PC users. However the Mac Version of CIV4 is released through Aspyr, so I checked there web-page and the latest patch they have is 1.61 Rev C.

This means that the Mac 1.61 Rev C will already be compatible with the 1.74 patch, or that I will have to wait until Aspyr releases the mac 1.74 patch.

Lets just keep on playing and see what happens, I bet the 1.61 Rev C patch I have will work fine with all of you no matter what patch you are all running.
