Now Is The Future!

Ohhh wow, I didn't know you could do that! Does that mean once the explorer gets off he can never get back on? Or can the destroyer take on missionarys, spies, and explorers forever?

Once he gets off - he cannot get back on.

Dateline: Today, Location: India 2
The leader of India 2 today announced that all leaders of the world are invited to apply to send material and people to be included in the up-coming launch of India 2's spaceship to a nearby planet. Details of the application process are currently sketchy but it is understood that India 1's peoples get an automatic acceptance and leaders known to be friendly to either India will only have to undergo minimal screening.

On the other hand, leaders such as France and America will have to provide excellent reasons regarding why they should be included. France could easily qualify if they promise to bring any India 1 artifacts that they may happen to have. It is unknown if America has access to any India 1 artifacts that will smooth their application.

In breaking news, this reporter has uncovered information about a strong 'collation against spaceships' that is forming. This reporter understands that this collation is planning desperate steps to stop the India 2 launch.

Collation against spaceships! That can't be, clearly my Avatar proves that I love spaceships.

If by India 1 artifacts you mean cities, yes America has some artifacts.

France has officially declared war with it's old rival India, but it almost didn't happen! Here is the story…

I opened the diplomacy screen, so used to selecting "Let's discuss something else" and "Your head would look good on a pole" as we do to declare war on the AI. Well, nothing like that is avail on your diplomacy screen when you speak with another human player. There was no way to declare war!

So I figure hey, that's cool. I already have canceled my open boarders treaty, I just need to cross that boarder to declare war. Unfortunately no navel or army units were within 1 turns range of Ruff_Hi's boarders (With the exception of a submarine which can cross the boarders regardless, thus not declaring war). Then I though "well maybe I can bomb him and that will start it". So I clicked on a nearby bomber and the "BOMB" icon was avail. So I selected it, placed the cursor over a copper mine (you need copper to speed up what Ruff_Hi needs next), clicked the mouse, and nothin'. The bomber did nothing and war was not declared.

I was stumped! So I sent an e-mail to Dogboy explaining my problem (what would soon be a mutual problem) and he said that the only way he ever declared war was through the diplomacy screen (only works with AI though) and by taking a ship right up to the sea boarder for a civ that he doesn't have open boarders with, then right clicking in the boarder.

That made sense to me, I usually started a war by taking a navy unit up to the targets boarder then taking it across using the numpad. But, it didn't really help me since I had no ships that I could get there in one turn.

Then I got an idea. Maybe I could select a destroyer that was anywhere on the map and right click in Ruff's territory and it might give me the declare war option because I have committed to computer to take the ship there eventually. Well it worked! The only down side to this method is that you have a ship that automatically goes somewhere you might not agree with.

I've posted this here in case anyone else runs into this problem playing a civ game. Without this little trick Bombers stationed at friendly cities trying to bomb faraway enemies is a little difficult.

DATELINE: TODAY, THE WORLD

France 1 and 2 have officially declared war on India 2! The aggression started today with a minor sea skirmish involving an indian Submarine and a French destroyer. Reports are also coming in that a large strategic bombing campaign has targeted India's food and hammer land improvements. These bombings were allegedly very brutal where copper mining was taking place. News of copper rationing in India supports the claim that they no longer have a copper industry.

It seems that the French's goal is to stop India 2 from achieving their highly speculated SpaceShip launch to Alpha Centauri as France's Minister of Love was quoted last week saying "I cannot confirm or deny that a CASS or "Collation Against Space Ships" exists. But, I CAN stay that if one DID exist, France would definitely be a card carrying member!"

When we asked our science correspondent what she thought about a possible trip to Alpha Centauri she responded "I wouldn't go, data suggests that the planet orbiting that system is inhabited by mind controlling worms and that all of the colonists would probably segregate into 7 conflicting ideologies that would get along up there just as well as we get along down here.".

I never use that method to declare war. I hold down the ALT key and click on the leaders name - WAR! It works in multi-player too (I think).

Reports out of India concerning the so-called bombing campaign ... India 2's brave leader, Ruff the Great is reported to have delivered the following messages to the Indian public and to the world leaders at large ...

"Nothing will stop the upcoming launch of our spaceship. Nothing. We have previously offered places to the leaders of the world on our ship. Any leader that participates in this bombing campaign or war against us is now not welcome. Well, maybe they can contribute the ashes of their body!

"I have one final statement for these so-called world leaders ... BRING IT. BRING IT GOOD!"

My internet connection has just been reestablished. I've got a bit of an email back log to get through but will play turns as fast as I can. I'm also going on vacation from the 11th to 18th. I think I'll be able to play the saves as long as I remember to bring my disk this time.

I sent you the file earlier today and I just got a message that your inbox is full. The server says it will continue to attempt delivery for another 4 days. I'm sure you will get it by then but ask me if you need a resend.

Flabbergasted at the possibility that England may not actually rule the world by 2050, the pacific people of England overthrown 1889 and install his twin brother (also named 1889).

1889 proposes a new direction for England. Hayuna Capac (sic) is hauled out of prison where he has been for many decades since the capture of his capitol and forced to sign a peace treaty. The English people celebrate peace and victory over the weekend and on Monday celebrate the declaration of war against Indias.

The English armed forces swing into fierce action. Dacca is slightly damaged by bombs.

Dacca is slightly damaged by bombs.
The sounds of laughter are heard ringing around the Indian Capital at the news that Dacca, a stupidly small city that was only founded for iron (or oil - no-one really cares), is bombed. The people come out in between bombing sirens to sing and dance in the streets ...

"... off to the stars, the shiny, shiny stars for us ..."

Today in India 2, while opposition forces conducted bombing raids and the aggressive navies of the world steam towards her glorious shores, India 2 launched her magnificent ship towards the stars. It is not exactly clear who of the world leaders took up Ruff's offer of a new and better life - we'll bring you more details about that later.

In recent days, India 2 has seen terror delivered from the skies. The magnificent defenders of India have managed to down over 75% of the fighters and 50% of the bombers bringing this terror. There has also been some action on the water with an American battleship being destroyed just off the coast. Several people report stealth bombing raids against this ship but the killer blow was assumed to be delivered by an Indian sub.

Even allowing for this incredible effort by the Indian forces, severe damage was done to 2 copper mines and some farming communities. Bombay is currently besieged and blockaded by enemy ships - it is reported that food is running short.

However, where the armed forces of India cannot prevail, the undying workers can. Ruff has reported that 2 copper mines are back up and operating again.

Long range recon has identified additional forces, including ground troops, en-route to India 2.

well gentlemen, I didn't get a victory splash after my turn ended. I expect that it will occur next turn. Boy am I glad this isn't BtS where I would have to last another 10 turns to claim my victory!

Well then congratulations in advance. Well done once again Ruff.

I don't understand. I had a spy in Bombay that successfully destroyed the cockpit there. Why would you be able to launch?
