With all due respect, perhaps this is a bad time to start not one, but TWO neses? It is after all in the middle of the school year and people have other things to do.
The timing, along with the ah... unattractive map with no althistory of any sorts is a discouraging factor for players to join. Personally speaking, I'm disgusted at how coastal China is owned by Japan in 1812 But that is a moot point...
This is the most atrocious thing I have ever had the misfourtune of seeing. I think I went blind when I saw that map...and your alt-history..in the name of all things unholy...change it....both of them...
First law of map-making for NESes. NEVER EVER save as a JPG / JPEG file. I believe you know why by now... Now none can edit that map (unless they have one hell of an expensive software and knowledge of that software) because it's blurry as hell.
Second law of map-making for NESers. Don't just spill color where you need it. Draw nice black lines for borders (never, or almost never use the line tool in paint! it sucks!) Use small rounds for cities and not just coffee stains.
Third law of map-making for NESers. Some care hun. Some care. Even just a little. That map is.. horrendously ugly. And me personally, I love the map part the most... So thats a reason for me to not ever join a NES with a map that looks like my friends dog made it. DON'T BE LAZY. Go close into the map. Make nice rounds using the round tools for cities and such, those black blobs look just like stains. Make nice lines, not just lot's of straight lines because you are lazy. Straight lines, unless part of the peace treaty that two people made will never exist as borders in reality. And I don't think there was ever a triangle country. I personally prefer the 4 cubes for lines and not 1 cause than it's hard to delete lines and it's also less pretty. Some other people like the thin lines, don't ask me why.
Also fill the islands. It just shows how lazy you are. Why would anyone join a NES with such a lazy MOD? Try just a bit harder, it's really not hard if you give some care to it and not just rush through the map.
Now go and try again. All you need is paint or some weak painting software. All you need is some different sizes brushes and color filler. Nothing else.
Oh and that can open and save as PNG files, or at least GIF files.
