OB07 - The First Shall Be Last

Alrighty, I've got it. I should be able to play sometime tonight.

I'm thinking of going with Fishing after Crafting is done. Otherwise, I'll just concentrate on pop growth. Probably another Settler, as well.

Quotey goes next then? EDIT: Crosspost with Conroe.

I'm having a hard time in school, will be ready for action wednesday. Hoping the bandwith isnt being used by then.

On tactics: Would growing into :mad: with our 2nd city make it work worse tiles? If not, we should do it.

Does land score more than pop? If so, maybe settling a no overlap desert city would be a good idea. Hurt our later foes, help us get out.

Another set filled with lots of pressing enter. I completed the queued Worker and then began another Settler (8 turns left). I also built a couple more Warriors before building the Elder Council. We've got 20 turns remaining on our GS. I got rid of the avoid growth buttons and set our cities to emphasize food. Crafting was completed, as was the Winery. I also completed Fishing and queued up Way of the Wicked, since it should be worth the most points.

We don't know where we are on the scorecard, so the demographics screen is our only clue. We're ranked 7th in land and 3rd in population. I don't think we're going to win the land battle, so we should probably concentrate on winning the population race. Our GNP lead should help us with scoring those tech points. Hopefully between tech and pop we can get to the top of the scorecard and finally jump.

The patch is working, I checked it quickly yesterday. So I will definately be able to be on the team :cheers:

Now, who's up?

... 7th in Land makes me think there are many Creative civs, I mean, normally the AIs are ******** when it comes to REXxing. Perhaps we will have a better look at this once our next Settler has settled a city. If we're still >3, I'd go for a more long-time strat since we won't be on top for atleast 100 turns if we aren't already in 10 or so, I guess.

Also, WotW seems an odd choice? We want more pop, more land, more :) and :health:... Does it provide any of this? (Sorry but the religious branch of FfH II is my great weakness).

I forgot about the Demographics screen. Good call.

I also forgot about demo screen :blush:

If we can churn out 8 turn settlers we should start winning the land battle (we're not that far behind), just need to start getting our happiness level up (we have plenty of food). Breweries and pagan temples.

As for techs, the cheaper the better, as we can regularly increase our score. As for the GS, we can switch to Pacifism (if we're not already in it) to speed it along. I'm assuming we'll get Knowledge of the Ether, which should be a healthy bump.

BTW, An Erebus map would have stopped the AI expansion much better because of the brutal barbs and lay of the map.

Quotey is UP.

Roster
Ozbenno
Jet
Conroe
Quotey - UP
Imhotep - On Deck
Diamondeye - Ready to jump in

Nope, it doesn't provide any of that. :nope: But it does provide points. Unless FFH has changed the scoring algorithm, it should provide double the points of the other choices. We're picking up 11½ points for each ancient era tech, which means the classical techs should be worth 23 points each. It will take 12 turns to get those 11 points versus 17 turns to net 23 points. Seemed like a no brainer to me, but I really have no clue whether or not they modified the scoring system. :dunno:

If we can churn out 8 turn settlers
Err ... Uhmm :blush: A poorly written report on my part. That should have read 8 turns remaining for a Settler. Its about 20+ turns to equip a Settler from scratch. If we can grab that fish/corn city, I would hope that we wouldn't need any more Settlers.

Lurker Comment:

OK, I see that now, misreading on my part.

I actually have no idea how the techs are scored. I assumed there was a direct ratio between beakers and points, if there is a direct link between era and points, then the cheapest techs in an era (of which WotW is) are better. Anyone know for sure?
FFH looks like it scores techs the same as regular BTS; all that matters is the era:
Spoiler from CvGameCoreUtils.cpp for 0.34g :
Code:
int getTechScore(TechTypes eTech)
{
	return (GC.getTechInfo(eTech).getEra() + 1);
}

Thanks Dresden.

Still, teching WotW and WotW (wise and wicked), while providing cheap points, would be an own goal if they dont immidiately push us over the score top... I'm just thinking, we might end up still playing this civ afterwards, where happycap techs would've helped us more.

-How are our odds of getting a religion for :), btw?

Honestly, I have no clue whether researching WotW would put us over the top. I don't know if we are 30 points behind or just 3 points behind. If it is 30+ points, then researching a classical tech is the right move IMO. And if it is only 3 points that we are shy, then it probably doesn't matter what we research since population will give us our needed points.

The demographics implies that we've got to be getting close. We've got a commanding GNP lead, so we are probably the tech leader. We're only average when it comes to land, but we are doing pretty good with population. My guess is that pop growth of 3 or 4 more should probably do it. :dunno: Researching a classical tech is just a bit of insurance ...

I hadn't seen your score breakdown posted so for the benefit of my fellow lurkers, I took a look at the save:

If you don't want to do the math that means:
  • Pop - 5000/2331 = 2.14 each
  • Land - 2000/2901 = 0.68 per tile
  • Techs - 2000/173 = 11.56 for Ancient; so 23.12 for Classical
  • Wonders - 5*1000/295 = 16.95 each (National or World)
Note that it's integer math so each part is truncated before everything is added (e.g. the 16.95 for Wonders becomes just 16)

The current strategy definitely looks sound; pop will take you over if you're close and a cheap classical tech is a huge gain if you're farther away.

Oh, and you should consider changing your leadername back to the default because if you don't, once you switch control to the next civ, this guy will still be called OB07 :p

In my test game I definately found Ben of the Sheaim to be my toughest opponent!!! ;)

... :lol:, Ozzy... I could imagine they were hard when you put them in a good position yourself. I usually kill them off before they can get Infernals onto the plane, but if you have to hit the top with em and then take over a civ far away, it might be hard...

Ag, sorry. I wasn't paying attention. Is it okay if I swap with Imhotep?
