Obamacare in top 10 tax increases since 1950

What a foolish "liberal" Eisenhower was. He would certainly fail the current Republican Party loyalty oath, as would must Republicans of the past.
Oh, really? What do you think Eisenhower would have to say about gay marriage or marijuana legalization? What was his stance on foreign affairs, like Iran and Guatemala? What percent of GNP went to the military under Eisenhower?

Oh, but you say he was for socialized medicine, so that would totally disqualify him from being the GOP nominee these days! *coughmittromneycough*

If our healthcare is so much worse, why do people from other nations flock here for care?
If you have the money with a unique case, American health care is the best in the world. (Although I remember seeing something about this one famous American actress who died right around the same time as Michael Jackson going to Germany for cancer treatments.) However, if you don't have money or are seeking help for a standard procedure (such as basic well-visits, simple surgery, and so on) American health care is more expensive than what would find in a well run NHS style system with no corresponding improvement in care, if anything, care quality goes down.
The Shah and Saudi Princes may go to the Mayo Clinic for care, but that doesn't mean US health care for the masses is of the same quality.

I think he was foolish in thinking its the governments job to do all that. If we'd give to charities more than the government perhaps his vision would be realized.
New idea! Let's cut state funding of the military, and let charity fund it! Since charities generally perform better.

I predicted the healtcare decision correctly and I am generally familiar with the taxing mechanisms used. The bigger ticket tax items are somewhat tied to GDP as more revenue will be collected in good GDP years than in bad, so I would be surprised if the tally in 2019 ends up that much different than the estimate. It will certainly be on the top 15 chart (unless we get another Reagan), but certainly won't be ranked number 1 as some right wing blowhards have been spouting.
Maybe they're expecting the economy to turn around and we start seeing 8% GDP growth or some such thing until 2019.

I had already 'caught on' way before, and am simply pointing out inconsistency of how GDP is used as a comparison in various arguements.
So far, there is only one poster in this thread that has been shown to be inconsistent in prior posting on the issue.

It could if people were more giving. I'd much rather give to charity than to the government for such social programs. Charities generally perform better.

Except, of course, that people are not that giving. Which is why private charities always fail to do even a small percentage of the work that the government does.

You can give for charity and reduce your tax bill, so the chopice is out there. I assume that those that make the charities-are-better argument have maxed out on charitable donations and use chartitable or private health care rather than government run health care.

That's like saying "if poverty is such a problem, how come so many rich people live here?"

American Healthcare is good for those with money, unfortunately even the goddamn middle-classes are finding it difficult to get the money to get decent healthcare

You are really asking why filthy rich people come here from other countries to go to the same doctors and private hospitals that cater to the filthy rich in this country? The same doctors who won't even see any basic insurance patients and the same hospitals that won't even let you in the front door unless you know someone important?

Do you actually think your military coverage is anything like that or even the typical HMO? You don't even have any recourse to blatant malpractice if the CO plays golf with the incompetent fool who mistreated you and your family. Military health coverage is a complete joke. Even Walter Reed lapsed to being an international laughingstock until five years ago.

And if you think it was some sort of temporary issue due to the Iraq War, you should rent Born on the Fourth of July and watch it. It has always been a colossal joke in between the occasional congressional inquiry. The vast majority of the military has always been seriously mistreated by their own government when they need help the most. And it is due to the same uncaring politicians who fawn over the "healthcare industry" in this country which is run by doctors who care far more about their investment portfolio than they do about the Hippocratic Oath. They could easily change it all tomorrow if they suddenly developed any morals at all.

That's like saying "if poverty is such a problem, how come so many rich people live here?"
Indeed.

You know who else was for socialised medicine Amadeus ?
Republicans might as well vote Obama.

That'd be my point in its entirety.

If you read through his whole post, you would have seen that that was his whole point.

My Bad,
I think its great that Republicans are voting for Mitt because of hes strong record on Mandates and socialised medicine. Mitt's pro immigration dream act ideas, responsible raising of taxes and acceptance of Gays by openly welcoming them into hes campaign team.

EDIT: Mitt is also pro choice and supports abortions, as per Romneycare.

Yeah, MobBoss, Obamacare isn't that great. But unless you've shut your eyes and have your fingers in your ears, repeating "nah nah nah!" then you'd know there's a massive problem with American healthcare: it's far too expensive and it's getting ever more expensive. Everyone agrees healthcare costs are a problem and yet your party has yet to suggest any better a solution than Obamacare (well other than suggesting every part of Obamacare it self, of course). You fall back on arguments like capping malpractice lawsuits and letting people buy insurance across state lines. Yeah, that'll sure solve the inflating healthcare costs in the US

God I'm glad I've escaped this nonsense.

American healthcare must be in a sad state if it's people are comparing it to the healthcare programs of 3rd world countries.

Perhaps one should consider the source? :mischief:

@Contre, I'm not debating that, but couldnt there be even a better way to do this without making our economy even worse than what it currently is?

New idea! Let's cut state funding of the military, and let charity fund it! Since charities generally perform better.

Except that constitutionally, providing the security of our nation via the military is pretty much a direct responsibility of our federal government.

Providing healthcare for everyone? A lot more arguable.

Well, to be fair, I was on my way to making a point which you indicated. But again, its good to have such a fan in you that you care enough to search so diligently on my prior postings. Autographs are only $25 btw.

Except, of course, that people are not that giving. Which is why private charities always fail to do even a small percentage of the work that the government does.

Perhaps if those moral atheists found it in their hearts to donate more it would help?

There's probably a lot of ways to do it better. What should we compare? It's easy to attack Obamacare when you're putting forward no solutions of your own.
