Ok. There's a thread in OT, regarding condoms, that was banned. AofA's comments were that there are no sexual topics allowed in Off-Topic.

I just saw a debate on MSNBC regarding Roe V. Wade and birth control.

I wanted to post on the topic in OT, but saw the closed thread. First off, isn't that getting a little ridiculous....closing a thread about condoms?????

Second, if I post on the subject of birth control, will it result in a closed thread and banning??????

Sex threads are not allowed.

How many different ways do want this told to you?

Jerk. I was just asking a question. You can either be a good mod and just anwer me.....or you could just be a jerk.

I see you chose option two.

I saw the thread and read through it before it was closed. I knew it would be, and rightfully so. I seriously doubt that they would allow birth control to be disscussed as well. Why? It's the rules, love 'em or leave 'em.

Thanks spycatcher. At least THAT is an answer. Good enough. I won't post the topic, then.

See, AofA.....that wasn't so hard was it.

Good bye, really cool guy.

Not only do you not rate civil answers, but in less then 20 minutes, you posted a duplicate thread, two trolls, and posted this assinine thread to further your rebel without a clue posting style, as well as a personal insult.

It's my pleasure to say get lost, I don't think your coming back this time.

Neh just give him a month or 2 to chill out

Hey AoA i thought i was the "Rebel without a clue"?

"Jerk." [insert favorite mod's name here] you big boob. Stoopnagle no good boob of a mod. Big meany. Eat my shorts.

I don't know about permbans or whatnot for voodoo but ban him!!! (at least for a short while) :goodjob: But thanks for voodoo for the laugh. :goodjob:

I just wanted to say that i'm glad that the mods here take the responiblity seriously. Because i've seen boards that whent to chaos when the mods stopped cracking down. I was really quite terrible. It was like pirates roaming the seas.

What I guess a lot of the perma-banned didn't realize is that AoA's modding style is sacrificially catalytic to flamers. Rather than let flamers roam, he invites them to flame him. Posters are spared, flamers are quickly exposed and lead on to their doom.

:goodjob:

I was about to say that a birth control thread would be prone to immature comments and a pain to moderate, but then I remembered the Babe Thread. Maybe VoodooAce's question, at face value, was a good one?

Yes - birth control is an important political issue (especially in predominantly Catholic countries such as Ireland, for example) which could easily be discussed without reference to sex in any kind of (possibly offensive) detail.

Just the same as a thread regarding whether abortion is ethical or how rapists should be punished would be RELATED to sexual activities but not actually detailing them in any way.

I only read the first few posts in the Condoms thread and thought it was a worthwhile topic that didnt transgress the rules. Maybe it got worse as it went on but in principle I dont think it was a topic that just couldn't be posted on without breaking forum rules.

Aren't we getting a bit TOO strict here?

No, it isn't a good one. Also, the Babe Thread isn't about sex, it's about what people think is beautiful. Any picture posted that deals with sex is quickly and ruthlessly moderated.

It got worse.

Also, the rules are explicit. We can't break the rules when it suits us, and invoke them at all other times. If you think the rules are wrong, the person to talk to is Thunderfall. The mods enforce the rules, they don't make the rules.

Well, it boils down to this:

Do you want an age limitation set at CFC?

Where you have to present a credit card as proof?

That is the only way to conduct discussions on sexual activilty and insure Thunderfall from any liability(lawsuits are no joke, people launch them ALL the time).

There are also other matters to consider, such as do you want YOUR children to be provided sex education by laymen on a game website?
That's what you will get.
We have youngsters here, quite a few, it's a GAME site.

Add to it, you ad yet ANOTHER level of responciblity on Lefty, TF and myself, as we have to moderate it.
Also, sexual matters have different leagal interpretations between the United States and other parts of the world, it's ILLEAGAL here for minors, even though leagal in say The Netherlands for two 15 year olds, in the United States it would be against the law.
You leave us in a VERY difficult postion, and one frankly, I don't want to be put in.

It's hard enough just making sure the threads stay civil, as proof, the thread starter is supposed to be an adult, yet broke 6 rules in less then 30 minutes, because the rules didn't suite him.

Do you want that scenario in a sexual discussion, where so called "adults" can't even control themselves in political topics?

That is MY question to you.

Is it illegal for minors in the US to talk about birth control?

That's a serious question, I never heard anything like that.

Sure it may be illegal and also problematic considering the children on the board to have sexual topics (like talking about sexual practices or something like that), no matter what I personally think about it, but birth control?

Isn't abortion a sexual topic too, then? Or could be seen as one?
What about dating? Could also be interpreted as such.

I think there's nobody on the board who could really be harmed by such discussions, especially compared with what he can do with (and involuntarily gets exposed to by) the internet connection that he obviously has available. So the only valid reason against it, besides ridiculous prudery, would be a legal obligation to prohibit it.

That's why I want to ask the US citizens here to tell us more these laws. What exactly do they prohibit?

Abortion was not at issue, condoms were.

Your also showing a personal bias Hitro, YOU don't think so, ergo nobody else would.

As a parent, I sure as hell would have a problem with it, and I'm not alone with that.

When discussing such issues, you have to take into consideration ALL points of view, not insult people with lines like "prudery".

In all honesty, I resent your comment, I'll teach my own child sex education, thank you very much.

Look, regardless of whether AoA overstated the case for prohibiting certain discussions on this site, bear in mind the following: this is a game site. The purpose of this site is to discuss Civilization in all its incarnations.

The offtopic stuff is provided as a courtesy (as is the entire site, for that matter) - it is a privilege and certainly not a right. Thuderfall and the mods can set whatever ground rules they like because they allow us to use this resource at their pleasure. There are ample internet fora available for you to discuss whatever political issues you like.

I am a moderator at another similar (though not Civ-related) discussion board. We recently experienced a similar fracas over political discussion that was taking too much of the moderators' time and attention away from the main purpose of the discussion board. The result was that the site administrator (the equivalent of Thunderfall) decided to shut down nearly all off-topic discussion.

Do you want that to happen here? If not, I recommend you abide by Thunderfall's rules and the moderators' enforcement of them, and take any forbidden off-topic discussion to a forum where it is on topic.

Im only 15 and i did NOT was shocked, inspired or offended by it.
I can do a valuable opinion becuase if you talk about sex or condoms becuase im around that age they talk about.
