Before I had said otherwise, but for some reason now I became somewhat more pessimistic about this spring's civ7's announcement - would Firaxis really precede it with the tweet about the game being 'in development', and then addons for the former game? It does look a little bit like a consolation prize and reassurance.
I agree. In the beginning of the latest livestream Pete talks about the news that the next chapter of Civilization is in developement and says that "we will be able to talk about that and we're looking forward to that day.."
I don't know if I'm grasping at straws but it would be weird if the announcement is several years away.
I find it interesting that next leader pack is after two weeks, what's the hurry, surely they could have pushed it to mid april or something if they wanted.
Maybe the team is preparing for something?
Also in youtube, the playlist that has videos for release trailers of Civ VI and it's expansions has one hidden video.. (?!).
That’s not my impression at all. On the subreddit for Civ5, which is quite popular, it seems like the majority doesn’t use the Vox Populi mod. That's my Impression too. I rarely see people say vanilla Civ V > vanilla Civ VI. The Majority of them always have Vox Populi in mind and as argument when they say Civ V is better and more challenging than Civ VI, especially the AI. Which is such a non-valid argument IMO.

That is just my impression though. It would be interesting to see some actual numbers.
In my opinion, Civ 5 with Brave New World without the Vox Populi mod is a very fun civilization game. Probably even better with the mod, which I haven’t tried yet.
I also find it a lot more enjoyable than Civ 6, though that can largely be explained by the extremely bland, non-immersive, inhuman and sanitized graphics in that game. If I was going to compare those game on mechanics alone, Civ 6 would win, though Civ 5 has some things it is better at, like diplomacy and the late game.
Hopefully Civ 7 takes some lesson from both games and does away with 1 7nit pr. tile and the “carpet of doom” for good.
I think it is very unlikely that Firaxis flew Potato McWhiskey across the Atlantic just to have him on a 1hr DLC livestream.Maybe even Potato was shown the game, so that at the time of the announcement he would say his admiring opinion. Why not?
Yes, while many of us have strong and passionate opinions on mechanics and other aspects of the games, there haven’t been a bad Civilization game in the main series yet. In fact all of them have been very strong. Not only I agree with you, I'm also in the even more radical camp that prefers Civ5 vanilla or with other mods > Civ5 Vox Populi > Civ6
That's very interesting how extremely diverse Civ community is in terms of reception of various iterations of a game. Maybe that is in itself sign of how consistent the quality of Civ games is - usually when you have long running series the community has quite clear notions of better and worse games. Here it's more about very subtle personal preferences.
You are definitely right. I saw now that he was from Ireland. Does this mean we will see Ireland in Vanilla?I think it is very unlikely that Firaxis flew Potato McWhiskey across the Atlantic just to have him on a 1hr DLC livestream.
I am certain he was also there (under very heavy NDAs) in relation to Civ 7.

My educated guess is that there will be a new bonus resource - potatoes - that players can harvest, transport and re-plant elsewhere. Ireland with unique whisky producing infrastructure is a given. The game then will be announced on St. Patrick's day, just around the corner. Then it is only logical that the new narrator is Sir Patrick. Which means... that will be Birth of the Federation 2, where no civ dev has gone before. Wow!You are definitely right. I saw now that he was from Ireland. This is highly likely. They probably sent him home with marketing-approved footage for him to create a hype video. And they wouldn't do that if they didn't have polished footage. The game is in a presentable state.I think it is very unlikely that Firaxis flew Potato McWhiskey across the Atlantic just to have him on a 1hr DLC livestream.

Be still my beating heart! I cautiously submit the following response:This is highly likely. They probably sent him home with marketing-approved footage for him to create a hype video. And they wouldn't do that if they didn't have polished footage. The game is in a presentable state.
I now firmly expect Civ 7 marketing to deploy in the next 3 months. And April is no longer too soon.

Civ VII is inevitable...appealing to Buddhist ideologyNow I'm way too excited for Civ VII. If it's Beyond Earth, I'll have a stroke.
I mean Ed was the lead designer for Civ 6 too, so I expect Civ 7 to be good.Anyhow, from the dev. livestream it looks like Ed will be overseeing it this time round. So expect a better game perhaps?!
