Official announcement: Hot off the presses. Next Civ game in development!!!!!!!

Surprisingly, I am not being derisive. Requesting luxuries is one thing that, well, is already in Baldur's Gate. ;)

Before I had said otherwise, but for some reason now I became somewhat more pessimistic about this spring's civ7's announcement - would Firaxis really precede it with the tweet about the game being 'in development', and then addons for the former game? It does look a little bit like a consolation prize and reassurance.

I still think announcement in May/June. I would think 2K Games wants the game out this year, especially after Midnight Suns didn't do well.

Otherwise announcement in September/October.

In the beginning of the latest livestream Pete talks about the news that the next chapter of Civilization is in developement and says that "we will be able to talk about that and we're looking forward to that day.."
I don't know if I'm grasping at straws but it would be weird if the announcement is several years away.

I find it interesting that next leader pack is after two weeks, what's the hurry, surely they could have pushed it to mid april or something if they wanted.
Maybe the team is preparing for something?

Also in youtube, the playlist that has videos for release trailers of Civ VI and it's expansions has one hidden video.. (?!).

I agree.

They mention it again, which I dont know why would they do it --- if announcement is year or more away.

I also think that those few sentences in the beginning of the video make announcement in next few month more likely.

That's my Impression too. I rarely see people say vanilla Civ V > vanilla Civ VI. The Majority of them always have Vox Populi in mind and as argument when they say Civ V is better and more challenging than Civ VI, especially the AI. Which is such a non-valid argument IMO.
That’s not my impression at all. On the subreddit for Civ5, which is quite popular, it seems like the majority doesn’t use the Vox Populi mod.

That is just my impression though. It would be interesting to see some actual numbers.

In my opinion, Civ 5 with Brave New World without the Vox Populi mod is a very fun civilization game. Probably even better with the mod, which I haven’t tried yet.

I also find it a lot more enjoyable than Civ 6, though that can largely be explained by the extremely bland, non-immersive, inhuman and sanitized graphics in that game. If I was going to compare those games on mechanics alone, Civ 6 would win, though Civ 5 has some things it is better at, like diplomacy and the late game.

Hopefully Civ 7 takes some lesson from both games and does away with 1 unit pr. tile and “carpet of doom” for good.

Not only I agree with you, I'm also in the even more radical camp that prefers Civ5 vanilla or with other mods > Civ5 Vox Populi > Civ6 :p

That's very interesting how extremely diverse Civ community is in terms of reception of various iterations of a game. Maybe that is in itself sign of how consistent the quality of Civ games is - usually when you have long running series the community has quite clear notions of better and worse games. Here it's more about very subtle personal preferences.

Maybe even Potato was shown the game, so that at the time of the announcement he would say his admiring opinion. Why not?
I think it is very unlikely that Firaxis flew Potato McWhiskey across the Atlantic just to have him on a 1hr DLC livestream.

I am certain he was also there (under very heavy NDAs) in relation to Civ 7.

Yes, while many of us have strong and passionate opinions on mechanics and other aspects of the games, there haven’t been a bad Civilization game in the main series yet. In fact all of them have been very strong.

While some luck also must have played a part, a concern for quality and good intuition among the designers for what make this series great must have been present from the first game to the sixth one.

Hopefully we can look back on the series in twenty years and say that the next three entries followed up that legacy.

You are definitely right. I saw now that he was from Ireland. Does this mean we will see Ireland in Vanilla? :groucho:

I was cautiously getting into hype mode, but these two comments pushed me over the line. :woohoo:

Plot twist: the "next chapter" is a full conversion mod in a fantasy or sci-fi setting, sold as DLC for Civ 6 rather than as a separate entry. Meanwhile Civ 7 is still years away. :p

That would explain both the hidden video and the hidden DLC on steamdb. :shifty:
---

Hidden Videos as of right now:

What's new to Civ? -> 3 videos. That's the Great Builders Meet the Rulers and First Look. Don't know what the third one might be.

Official Trailers | Civilization VI - 1 Video.
1. If it were a Civ 7 trailer, why would it be within a Civ 6 playlist? Because it could just be easier to organise it that way, then move it to its own playlist later. Or keep it in the same playlist and just rename the playlist to "Official Trailers".
2. The short announcement trailer for Civ 6 is not within the playlist for Civ 6 Official trailers. Why would Civ 7's be? Meh... :dunno:

Civilization Beyond Earth: Rising Tide - 3 hidden videos
I'm fairly confident these hidden videos have always been there, so it's meaningless. But could someone please confirm?

My educated guess is that there will be a new bonus resource - potatoes - that players can harvest, transport and re-plant elsewhere. Ireland with unique whisky producing infrastructure is a given. The game then will be announced on St. Patrick's day, just around the corner. Then it is only logical that the new narrator is Sir Patrick. Which means... that will be Birth of the Federation 2, where no civ dev has gone before. Wow! :D

This is highly likely. They probably sent him home with marketing-approved footage for him to create a hype video. And they wouldn't do that if they didn't have polished footage. The game is in a presentable state.

I now firmly expect Civ 7 marketing to deploy in the next 3 months. And April is no longer too soon.

Be still my beating heart! I cautiously submit the following response:
:grouphug::worship::drool::clap::woohoo::bump::rockon::dance:[party]:high5::cheers::cheers:

Now I'm way too excited for Civ VII. If it's Beyond Earth, I'll have a stroke.
Civ VII is inevitable...appealing to Buddhist ideology 🙏

Just look at the state of Civ VI from an engineering point of view. With escalating bugs and exploits I imagine it's pretty tough working in Firaxis' Civ dev or QA teams!
Really any engineering manager would be looking to make some revolutionary improvements for Civ VII.

BE2 will buy them time.

I think that's what Leader Pass is. Buying time until Firaxis can develop Civ VII.

Anyhow, from the dev. livestream it looks like Ed will be overseeing it this time round. So expect a better game perhaps?!

I mean Ed was the lead designer for Civ 6 too, so I expect Civ 7 to be good. :p
