***Official "I'm at/below Minimum Specs" Club ***

My download speed picked up and it is done. I'll give you a thumbsup, thumbsdown.

Is it playable using only the Strategic View, if you are at minimum specs?

No, I am playing with the 3d view view without any problems. Maybe I am just lucky, or something, but it seems to run maybe a little slower on the video than Civ IV. The turns, also seem a little slower.

But overall, the old Dell XPS m1530 with the WELL BELOW 8600GT nVidea card is holding up just fine.

And if you just go to strategic view, which is sort of cool in in it's own way, it's extremely smooth.

I think 2k went for higher specifications to try to cut down on the whining. Not that it's working. :mischief:

I have a lousy laptop video card (integrated Intel Series 4) but i'm fine otherwise, 2.3MHz Dual Core and 3GB RAM.
Downloading the demo at the moment... I hope it can run at the lowest settings.

I've got a laptop that has SIS VGA that plays Civ IV ok but only with Win XP (not Vista).....here's hoping the demo works for me???!!!! 1 hour to go :-)

I do have an HTPC if I really have to use that but will see.

EDIT - If I download the demo with Steam on my HTPC is there an easy way to transfer it (not re-download) the demo to my laptop?

Reports coming in:
No go on early Intel IGP
Runs fine on 8200m, low settings
Sorry for giving some people sleepness nights :mischief:

And it better run well on a 8800GTS, thats about RECOMMENDED

It played absolutely fine for me, but, by default, the graphics were set at minimal standards. I turned it up to medium to see how it'll play next time.

Opening video is absolutely cinematic. Possibly my favorite thing so far

I'm right at Minimum Specs and the default video settings has most of them low with a few medium. The games looks fine at that level (playing the tutorials).

Heh, please know my tongue was firmly in cheek...you guys have been uber-helpful over there! Even if I'm now on anti-anxiety meds. :p

Thanks for checking in everyone...I have about a half hour left on the demo download. Unfortunately, I have to be at work at 2pm so my testing will be fairly brief. :(

hahaha

i have a single core amd4000+ cpu
my graphics card is 8500gt (thats much worse than 7900gs)

...and the demo works!! omg lol. at least ive founded my first city, i'll update you guys on how it goes

*the demo plays perfectly on low settings. now i have bought the full version :D

For some reason Civ refuses to use DX10 with my 9800GT card, I'm on Vista. It will only play with DX9 .. the game barely plays, looks like it's time for a cheap vid card upgrade!

People should also mention if they have a clean running system with a fresh install of their OS and with minimal extra programs (virus scan, etc running) That also makes a huge difference.

I only have a dual core, 3gb ram, 512mb 8800GT, but am able to play newer games at high detail levels. Of course I have aftermarket cooling on the processor and video card which helps alot.

I lose monitor signal right after the opening movie. I think it might automatically set my resolution to something my "monitor" can't handle. I say monitor with quotation marks, because it's actually a small lcd tv with a vga port. I can get 1600X1200 resolution fine though, so I don't know what the problem is. I'm getting sound and everything, so the demo seems to be running, I just can't see anything but a big red sign that tells me: "Input not supported."

Same here with the DX9 lock. Do you run the demo and/or 7/64bit? And what do you mean with "barely plays"? I get >60fps zoomed in and ~30 zoomed out with a GTX260 and everything on max. Should work fine on a 9800GT

Awesome news. Thanks for taking the time to let us know. I'd love to hear if someone has a lower end ATI card and is able to play. The NVidia's seem to be rocking...

I'm really curious to hear if you guys are still doing well later in the game.

No go on an ancient IBM Thinkpad T41p (1.7 GHz single core, 1gb ram, 128mb video), just get a black window before the program shuts itself down without an error message or anything.

I have an ATI Radeon HD 4200 video card. After the video I get a gray screen and what looks like the game cursor (white/blue glowing) with music in the background. I don't yet know whether this is a specs problem or something else (I'm using my flat-screen as the monitor).

This gives me hope. If it runs on 8200M I hope it will run on my GT 220M, which is supposed to be a 9600 so I read.

(side note: what idiot at Nvidia devised their naming scheme - it is totally illogical. I presume it was designed to confuse?)
