offworld trade and resources

Sorry to hear you're leaving. Hopefully we can get the homeworld screen relatively finalized, or at least to a stage where David/Deliverator/Keldath could easily tweak variables as needed.

If you guys like this pic, I can place it.

Btw, any progress with the main interface? I plan to leave dune wars team. So if you want to have the interface placed by me, try to finish at least one set/flavor. ;)

Oh thats pretty bad news!!!! why so? nono ... stay!
Ok i will prioritize finishing ordos set, dunno whats tomorrow, perhaps at end of weekend i will have it ready for sure.

Lets buy him an ice cream and will agree with him more!!!

Regarding the offworld trade option, is it possible to add a brief explanation of what the resources you are trading for do?

Is there a way to put some kind of helpful hover text or icons or anything into the random event popup? I don't think so, but that would be the easiest way to improve it.

With a combination of the help string for bonuses and the event PythonHelp callback, I have now added hover help to the existing popup. See screenshot. This will have to do for now; adding a custom screen to get the icons is too complex unless we get a lot of negative feedback.

I don't really like either of those two pictures for the Fremen's homeworld screen. They're good pictures, but I don't think they'll suit the screen.Something that is more of a desert landscape without figures in the foreground will work better I think. I'll have another look through the TV series DVDs - there is a scene where they look across to Sietch Tabr. Another possibility is using the same scene that is used for the loading screen.

Koma asked for someone to cut out these Fremen for the Homeworld screen, but I haven't got around to that yet.

this is fantastic David :)

regarding fremen homeworld screen, why dont you use a 3D rendered world like Atreides? you can use the planet on the main menu surely?

Yes, that is a possible option, but we want the concept that the units are travelling up from the Southern deserts, and are not being transported by the Guild to be clear.

Ok i will cut that pic today
May be then koma will stay with us
and cmon mad i really planning something serious with HUDs, please staaaay (not only b/c of huds, i find your work awesome and nice to work with You)

Oh no! Is it something we did, or failed to do?
Well, just let's say I don't agree with the overall designing philosophy you guys have for Dune Wars... :p

(Will you have a chance to give an update to AI_foundValue?)

Yeah, I want to finish the tasks I have started:

1) Getting the homeworld screen into an acceptable state, maybe placing a dummy video that Deliverator can change later on
2) Placing the main interface, so Svlynn doesn't wasted his time in painting it. I can also export the graphic pathes to xml, so it's easy to plug in more flavour/themes.
3)Trying to improve AI_foundvalue, allthough I have to admit it that my last tests were pretty discouraging. Let's see, I haven't give up completely and will soon make a post in better city site thread confronting you with the problems I ran into.

It's just, I won't start anything new.

Lets buy him an ice cream and will agree with him more!
Hehe. :) Sorry, bro...

What is about using the graphics from city screen? It would fit the fremen style...

Well, that is sad to hear, Koma.

I'm not sure there is an overall design philosophy in particular, so let me speculate that the things you are unhappy with include:

1) The current spice mechanic - as in this post.
2) The emphasis for the books over the movie and the games.
3) There being too much Dune geekery that makes the mod inaccessible to new players - as in this post.

Am I right here or can you expand the issues? I, for one, am open on (1) if there is a better way. I do support (2), but I am also a fan of a large percentage of the movie and have added plenty of art from it too. On (3) if there is anything perceived to be too geeky or inaccessible then I am open to changing, but I do think that the line we have taken so far hasn't hurt the mod's popularity.

Your leaving will be a great loss to the mod, so it would nice to at least know what your main issues are. I know that people here have strong opinions, myself included, but it would sad if you felt your opinion wasn't being listened too.

Agree completely.

In terms of specifics:
I agree with 3), accessibility is key.
I do tend to favor 2) (books > movies), but there is room for flexibility and compromise. For example, though I'm not a huge fan of the navigator sequence, you added a function to make it optional, which resolved the issue for me; if I don't like it, I don't need to watch it.

My issues with 1) are gameplay-based; I don't think that trying to push the game out into the deep desert would be fun or good for gameplay. We have engine limitations to deal with. If someone could make it work, be balanced and fun, then I'd gladly adopt it, but that seems like an immense challenge involving major redesigns and AI work.

Found another one of Koma's dislikes:

4) The improvement upgrades - as in this post and this post.

I'm completely open on this one too, if we can find a way to make auto-upgrading work then I wouldn't mind.

Well, on this one, again my preference is to retain the current method, because otherwise I think that workers and slaves become pretty useless beyond the early midgame.

I like the idea of having to actually have a large workforce and invest in workers in order to upgrade your infrastructure, rather than building improvements in the early game and then having no real use for workers anymore.

But we can definitely discuss these things. Is there an alternative use we could find for workers and slaves beyond the early game?
Maybe we could merge both methods: eg have a shallow well that could have a deep well built on top of it once the appropriate tech was achieved, but the shallow well woudl also automatically upgrade to a deep well over 50 turns after the appropriate tech was discovered.

* * *
But the point is, we can discuss all these issues. It should be a shame for anyone to feel that their voice was not being heard.

That's pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. :goodjob:

On Koma's leaving -

I think its very bad, and i was amazed by his works when i 1st time seen it.

I propose solution, i hope Koma will agree with it and i think that team will too.
Koma is really diamond for mod, so here is proposal:

Koma will say and propose things that will change his mind, and will allow him to stay. Things he didnt loved in mod/team. Anything, truth, as it is.

Then team see what he saying and then deicide how it possible to do what Koma needs to be able to stay.

I think it may have good result and nice peacefull hugging and consensus. :)

Tell me if you still need to cut that image , thats quite piece of job, while i can do HUDs, but if you still want and need it i will do that.
