OFW1 Science and Industry

You might want to hink about taking the units up the coast by boat. Now we have the lighthouse it's quicker.

Also the roaming scientist should go in a captured city, I forgot to do that and he's still wandering aroung the pop 1 towns in our south.

The wines trade deal was :smoke: In retrospect I sholn't have done it. I was getting a bit panicky about having no luxes and suffered a momentary lack of judgement.

Now that's a rampage! :goodjob: And all done with the original expeditionary force of twelve Immortals, I assume.

I can't seem to download the save, though.

The immortals are just too good at this stage of the game.
Yes , it was done with the original twelve, but I think there is close to double that number of units in Egypt now. Because Chivalry is round the corner and because they are faster and can catch up I've switched to building horses.

We could do with a leader for the FP, only thing is where do we put it?

I fixed the link to the save. I can't spell.

It looks as though central China would be a perfect location for our Forbidden Palace. :viking: This implies fairly late construction of the FP, which I normally dislike. But since we're going for the 20K win, this will be a long game in terms of turns no matter how well we do, and we'll probably have sufficient time to build up a superb second core in China, especially if we make heavy use of worker merges.

Given that we can't rush-build the FP in China for some time yet, we might want to use our first leader to form an army. Quite apart from the fact that the Heroic Epic would be an excellent addition to Pasargadae, I don't think we want to ignore the whole army-Military Academy-Pentagon line of development.

And BTW, mad-bax, good work generating elite Immortals.

Here it be!!

Preturn, everything fine. move Scientist to one of Egypts old cities.

IBT- Russia lands a settler on our little Island.

1.50AD Susa Aqueduct>Horseman, Hamadan Worker>Library.

2. 70AD Perseoplois Horseman>Settler (maybe we can split the Island with Russia) Bactra Horseman>Aqueduct.
Attack Alexandria, We suffer heavy losses but take the city. (No Elites lost and no Leaders gained:( )
At this point we are able to sign a peace treaty with Egypt, which will last until war is redeclared. In return for this peace treaty we get there 1 gold:rolleyes: and 4 towns (Avaris, Asyut, El-Amarna and Giza) now to let our troops heal and regroup.

Trade WM's around (we get 1gpt from Osman) The only ones who are polite to us are the Russains and Chinese. Think they know were coming:tank:

and then.....

OFW_HG.JPG

3. 90AD Pasargadae>Collosseum. Gordium Horse>Horse, Samaria Horse>Worker.

4. 110AD Persesoplis completes Settler, Susa Horseman and Tarsus Horse, I switch all 3 of these cities to Workers to join Pasargadae If we need to or want to rush Collosseum or Cathederal.
Darriush Kabir Library>Worker, Herat Warrior>Library.

5. 130AD Perseoplois Worker>Horse, Susa Worker>Pikeman, Tyre Harbor>Pikeman, Samaria Worker>Marketplace.

6. 150AD Troop movements, we are about ready to finish off Cleo.

7. 170AD more troops finished and started.

8. 190AD Perseopolis Horse>Horse, Pasargadae Colosseum>Cathederal (All 4 workers are now in Pasargadae to rush when need be)
Greece completes the Great Wall. (We probably are very unlikely to get Sun Tzus in Arbela)

Declare War on Egypt. Take Byblos losing 1 horse.

9. 210AD More Horsemen complete, Sidon Worker>Worker, Dariush Kabir Worker>Harbor.

And Then:D

OFWIM.JPG

I am sending him back to the our mainland to either use in Pasargadae or to rush Sun Tzu's If you think we won't get it and need it. or you can turn the boat around and make an Army. Iwas looking to use him on Either Leo's or Sistine, But who knows when we will learn those?

Oh, and we take Abydos!!

10. 230AD We have learned Republic but don't switch Govts cause we are in our GA. We are now researching Chivalry. (If ya got something better in mind feel free to change that).
I do not whip the Cathederal in Pasargadae yet as it would kill 6 and we only have 4 workers there to join, so Maybe next turn.

all in all I liked the turns, we are pulling in 31 Culture per turn in Pasargadae at the moment:goodjob:

I guess Northern Pike is up.

here is the game

The End of Egypt!!

Don't whip the Cathedral. Just wait for Republic and buy it. The loss of happiness and productivity/workers would be a nuisance.

Good job in finishing off the Egyptians. The Leader is a bonus. What shall we do with him? FP? SunTzus? Army for heroic Epic?

I would vote for the latter personally.

We will have the Cathedral built by the time we switch to republic(we already know it). I just was thinking to start getting a prebuild started a few turns earlier.

Egypt still has 1 city and may take another before we can get there, but really they are done;)

The Hanging Gardens and a leader--great! :D

I haven't studied the saved position yet, but right now I lean towards forming an army with the GL.

You probably know this, OneFastWarrior, but the save doesn't seem to have uploaded properly either.

After posting, I thought about it and would actually turn the boat around and build a Immortals army and that means we would have to start another war really soon to get a heroic epic going.

China next?

OneFastWarrior, I'll just repeat this so that it goes to the bottom of the thread. The save doesn't seem to work.

No. Not next. Right Now ;)
Taking china now is important. It would be best done before their UU and we need somewhere for our Palace or FP. I kind of favour putting our palace in China and our FP in the 20K city.

What do you think?

Generating leaders is very important. The heroic Epic makes a big difference in thet department.

The new eastern island (no luxuries again):

OFW1_340_AD.JPG

IN EPIC TIMES

230 AD (0): I switch Antioch and Sardis from harbours to courthouses. These towns aren't going to be working their water tiles for a while, and they have the right amount of corruption to benefit from courthouses.

I decide not to trust the Great Library to get us Chivalry quickly (it failed miserably on Republic), and set research to 60%.

We get Theology from the Great Library, and the Oracle becomes obsolete. What a useless Wonder--except for our purposes. ;)

The two Egyptian spearmen in position to take ungarrisoned Abydos move away from the city. [pimp] :smoke: This is as odd a thing as I've ever seen in this game. Presumably the AI, thinking of spearmen as defensive units, wants to get them into its capital.

250 AD (1): We found the Army of Darius in Abydos. I only load two Immortals into it; with a knight as the third unit, when that becomes possible, it'll be stronger defensively.

I hold off on attacking Hieraconpolis, wanting to make all our remaining attacks versus the Egyptians with our army or with elite Immortals.

One Egyptian spearman heads back towards Abydos--too late, boys.

260 AD (2): The Army of Darius takes Hieraconpolis, and Pasargadae switches to the Heroic Epic. The Egyptians are still in the game because they've got a settler--and in their turn, they use it to found Lisht.

270 AD (3): We found Dakyanus in the north of the eastern island, leaving the whale out of its radius because otherwise we'd waste two BG (of course the place will always be hopelessly corrupt, but it's the principle of the thing.)

Pasargadae gets its third cultural expansion--only 19K to go!

280 AD (4): For the second turn in a row, an Egyptian archer attacks out of Lisht and dies. The Egyptians had no archers in the area when they founded Lisht, and I'm reasonably certain they're broke. Where are these units coming from?

We get Invention from the Great Library.

290 AD (5): With our galleys operating freely thanks to the Great Lighthouse, we spot a second island to the east of our homeland.

Our Golden Age ends, but I choose not to revolt until we get Chivalry. With knights at our disposal, we should be able to batter the Chinese even while we're in anarchy, and the interregnum won't be wasted.

300 AD (6): We take and auto-raze Lisht, and ____, we aren't congratulated on destroying the Egyptians. They must have a settler on a galley God knows where.

By proceeding slowly against the Egyptians I was able to get five extra attacks with elite Immortals, but none produced a Great Leader. :(

We get a palace extension, evidently our fourth.

Our wines deal with the Russians expires. The necessary adjustments aren't serious, but Gordium, Sardis, and Antioch now aren't getting any inherent population growth.

And:

CIVIIIEPIC.JPG

310 AD (7): The Egyptians use what I sincerely hope is their last settler to found Buto on the southwest coast of Greece . I establish an embassy with the Greeks and look into the possibility of having them finish off the Egyptians, but they want more than 300 gold for an alliance. We could pay their price, make peace with the Egyptians, or just remain at war for the moment. Since you're going to have to manage our anarchy, mad-bax, I'll leave these options open for you.

Incidentally, Athens has four clowns on duty and is only producing ten shields a turn, so its Wonder build looks like no threat to us.

320-340 AD (8-10): I concentrate units near China. This includes a good many workers, since using them in southern Egypt, which is always going to be corrupt, is largely pointless.

THE FUTURE

We're set up now to get Chivalry, hook up the Egyptian iron, pop-rush a barracks in Giza (these things should be more or less simultaneous), upgrade horsemen to knights, attack China, and go into anarchy. I've concentrated veteran horsemen around Giza, and you'll want to look into the nearby towns for some of them.

Before you revolt, you might want to inspect our minor and corrupt cities for good pop-rushing opportunities. Several are close to accumulating twenty shields.

If you're feeling patient, you could even wait to revolt until Pasargadae has completed its cathedral.

The settler next to Abydos is meant to found our Forbidden Palace city, since the FP shouldn't go into a Chinese city where it might be lost to a flip. The tile just west of Nanking might be a good spot for our FP city after we raze Nanking (which is so poorly placed that it should be levelled regardless).

Persepolis should probably go back to churning out settlers after it completes its temple. We aren't finished founding cities.

It looks as though our first city on the second eastern island should be founded on the hill tile just southeast of the settler's current location.

Good luck with the attack on China! :goodjob:

340AD: Pre-turn check OK :goodjob:
Notice that the entire continent we are taking on has no luxes.
Avaris is making a worker - nice!
Since Egypt is gone Except for the settler on a galley I don't fear flips. So I change all the library builds to spears to liberate the horses for the upgrade that is coming.

IBT:
Elephantine spear - spear
Antioch rax - horse
Pi-ramases rax - spear

350AD:
Adjust science, chivalry in one.
Move workers to road to China.
Move horses ready for upgrade

IBT:
Learn Chivalry research gunpowder 0%
Persepolis Temple - Knight
Tyre rax - galley
Avaris worker - worker

360:
Join worker and Whip rax in Asyut
Revolt to anarchy
Hire a few clowns to prevent riots. Takes ages, what a bore.

IBT: Egyptians want peace. No! So a spear pair pillage road.
Asyut rax - pike

370:
Upgrade 9 horses for 720g
Found Bampur on iron island.
Kill cheeky egyptian spears. No losses
Upgrade another horse for 80g

IBT:
Mongols start Sistine

380:
Position Knights for war.
Add knight to army.

IBT:
Russians request an audience
we tade WM
Istakr riots and gets higher taxation for their effort.
Ottomans start Sistines
Misclick on previous turn causes galley to sink. :smoke:

390:
Declare war on China. Since I want to do it nicely, cannot attack on first turn.
Found Tureng Tepe (but not where Northern Pike expected. My mistake.) - temple
Give 110g to Mongols for MA against China. I know its a round number but it was the least amount.

400:

ofwe.jpg

First attack generates leader
Take Tientsin no losses - library
Take Macao, on a hill. No losses but a couple of redlined Knights - library

410:
Our great nation becomes a republic
Lose 2 vet immortals taking Nanking
MM all the cities again. Yawn.

IBT:
Greeks want WM+Chivalry for WM. I think not.
Trade horses + 11gpt for Ivory instead. This is a lot but I worry abour WW.
Babylonians build Sun Tzus. Huge cascade

420: Land leader on mainland using galley shuttle.
Hurry several libraries in new cities as I can't be doing with flips today.
Take Chinan - Library. No losses
Lose 2 knights trying to take Anyang. Life just is not fair sometimes.

IBT:
China captures back 2 slaves
Korea want to swap WM. I know I shouldn't really but I do.
Nanking Library - spear
Tientsin stops resisting and starts rioting - clown
Kaifeng Library - Spear
Borozjan library-worker
Tureng tepe library - Pike

430:
Moved some troops, trying to tidy up after myself. Failed I'm afraid
Misclick on Anyang attack nearly costs an elite knight. Take the town but lose another vet knight. Build set to library.

Overview:
The army of knights is spread around and in need of some serious healing.
There is one knight on duty covering two cities.
The leader is on his way to the culture city. The Cathederal should complete, then leader builds Sistine. We have no hope of getting Leos. The city building it is not productive enough.
Obviously don't use elite troops until leader is used up. I had to a couple of times to save units, but I didn't want to. I think we're doing OK

The Chinese burn :D

ofwd.jpg

The <<save>>.

Made quite a few MM fooul ups during the government switches. I apologise for that guys.

I like the great Leaders name
