Mad-bax, just in case I didn't make it sufficiently clear, I'm finished posting ;) and you're up.

Sorry for the eerie silence.... because it's the weekend I haven't had the chance to look at the save, and it would be silly to try to comment until I did.

Anyway Got it! I'll play today if I can.

I can't resist patting myself on the back a little here. Russian Kharkov controls the only coal on our home island, as I predicted. :p

nice turns np, I knew Democracy would make it tough. With the Ai's survival everytime we think we have them, it's almost as if Respwn AI is on. But I have never set a game up to play with it on, so I'm sure it's not.

Hopefully Egypt will talk soon.
Good luck mad-bax.

Well, unfortunately I didn't get to the game last night. I started to play but one of my 3 year old kids decided to pull the power cord out of the wall near the end of the first turn so she could plug in her toy hairdryer :p

I have to get to it today or tonight though as I am up in 3 SG's now. The save looks very good though, and I am inclined to build an army to take out greece, Rome and the Mongols once the 20 turns pennance are up.
Please excuse the delay.

No problem; these things happen. Unless I'm badly mistaken, OFW probably won't much care to play on Sundays during the NFL season anyway. ;)

Do you have twins, or am I taking "one of my 3 year old kids" too literally? :)

Military units by all means, but factories before everything. When we do start building up our military again, we shouldn't overlook cannon. We're going to be making war against riflemen and probably infantry before we're done, so we'll want a kill stack of at least 50 artillery. Given our possession of Leonardo, it will be much easier to get those artillery units for 40 shields and a 40-gold upgrade than for 80 shields.

Yes that's understood. I have learned the hard way the need for cannon against riflemen, and the importance of a large team of workers and a few settlersto rail for the cannon stack.

Factories are obviously the priority now, though I would not normally delay military waiting for coal plants. I would normally aim to get Hoovers instead. Would this be your preference?

I will probably take my time to micromange cities for cannon and unit production to keep wastage down. Since we now have way over 100 workers/slaves and rails are here these turns will probably take a long time to play accurately.

Yes, I do have twins. Non-identical girls. I try to get them interested in Civ, but instead they just fight me for the computer so they can play Winnie the Pooh. I always lose. :(

I generally compromise on the Hoover/coal plant issue, building five or six coal plants in good cities where they won't take long but otherwise waiting for Hoover.

Another thing worth doing would be to start assembling some ships with transport capability in the eastern ports of our home island, since if we wait for war with the Russians to begin this long process it will take forever before we can invade them. I made a sort of half-a__ed start on this project with the one caravel at sea north of Hamadan.

Yes, by all means play slowly. There's a lot to do right now.

Ah, you did mean you have twins. Congratulations! Perhaps if you mod the game so that Eeyore is the English UU they'll take a greater interest in it. To make the blazingly obvious joke, he could scarcely be worse than the provided UU.

1230AD: Pre-turn check OK. Could it be anything else?

IBT:
China and Egypt make peace.
Egypt declare war on Babylon.
Persepolis completes Newtons - palace pre-build for factory
Pasargadae completes Shakespears - Smiths.
Babylon start Smiths.

1240AD:
Organised workers into railing teams.
Used leader for Smiths.
The New continent is very short of defense.
Egypt still don't want to talk.

IBT:
Egyptian are killed by Babylonians.
Pasargadae completes Smiths - factory pre-build

1250AD:
Raze Antium and Replace with New Arbela.

1255AD:
Railed stuff.

IBT:
Babylonians want to exchange maps. Nah. Give the Tmap instead.

1260AD:
Ship 6 workers to home continent.
Rail stuff.
Industrialisation due next turn. MM gordium so it doesn't complete colloseum.

IBT:
Greeks want MPP and ROP. No! Give them Tmap instead. But I think they're gonna declare.
Learn Industrialisation. Nationalism and Medicine are out there already so research corporation.
Gordium completes Cooloseum even though it definitely said 2 turns to complete and the bin was not full  Don't know what I did there.

1265AD:
I'm not sure how fast to research Corporation. Could do it in 4, but I would like some gold to hurry factories. Decide on 6 turns instead.
The Ottomans have gems and want iron in exchange. They are not going to be a target soon so I decide to take it. Might help with WW against the Greeks.
Decide to bankrupt Russia by selling them Industrialisation for WM + wines + medicine + 36gpt +38g.
Don't do a deal with Greece for Nationalism. We would have to break it.

IBT:
Americans want to exchange WM. Nah.
Russians start Suffrage

1270AD:
Hurry Factory in Pasargadae.
Ship more workers to home ground

1275AD:
Start to break up rail teams so workers work one tile each. The Network is pretty much complete.
Pasargadae starts Suffrage.

1280AD:
Still railing.

IBT:
Carthage want to renew dyes deal for Salpetre and Steam Power. Errm...No.

1285AD:
Railing. zzzz....

1290AD:
More railin'

EOT

Pretty boring turnlog I'm afraid. But most of the donkey work has been done as far as railing is concerned.
Only Russia and Greece have Nationalism. Our military has been severely neglected on my turns, but the factories and ducts will finish over the next few turns and that can be rectified. It may be another 10-15 turns before we can take on the Greeks who only got coal hooked up on the last turn. In retrospect I could have bankrupted them with Industrialisation, but at the time I expected to be at war with them before 20 turns was up. This was a simple miscalculation on my part. They have a few cavalry dotted around, but nothing frightening.
Our predicted end date is now 1840AD. The second bout of Anarchy cost us 167 culture points in the capital, which will probably work out at 2 turns in the end. Pasargadaes culture stands at 6500 exactly and is making 84cpt.
The corporation will finish when you press end turn. Since the AI have failed to research electricity, I suppose we should do so to get TOE. Alternatively we could research refining first to see where our oil is. Since we have corporation and will have refining, we will have no problem getting electricity from the AI if need be. We can research in 4 turns comfortably and Pasargadae has a factory. With TOE the game is effectively dead. But we can have some fun beating up the AI for a hundred turns. :)

Here is the <<save>>.

I played before reading your post NP. I'm afraid I didn't have the foresight to move boats to the required position. OFW will have time to get started on that however.

I have the game, You are correct NP, no playing on Sundays, just check the comp a few times during the day.

I am on vacation today and tomorrow, so I will try to get my turns done by tomorrow.

I haven't looked at the save yet, but plainly a very productive round. They don't all have to be war turns.

It's :rotfl: that the Egyptians declared war on the Babylonians while they were a citiless houseboat civ--and it's a relief that they're now out of the game.

I think we should just do the obvious thing and research our way straight to Scientific Method/ToE. I don't think we need to be impatient about locating the oil, since we control so much territory that we must have some (though I don't mean to tempt fate by saying it :worship: ).

Yep, I think I probably will work on improving our land and cities and straight to Scientific Method!

Builder turns are good for me;)

In the same I will get our Military forces prepared for what comes.

NP, were you talking about preparing for a Russian invasion? I have not looked at the save to look at what you were talking about, so...

Anyway, I will get it done within the next 24 hours.

wish me well!!

OFW, all I'm really talking about is making a few preparations to invade Russia if it seems necessary or desirable before we hit 20K. And the one thing which has to be thought about a long time in advance, for this or for any invasion, is the pre-positioning of the transport fleet.

Best of luck!

OFW, Xinjian, Herat, and Charsadda are still on their prebuilds, and should be switched to factories--in Charsadda's case, immediately. Not your fault, mad-bax--I didn't make it clear that the universities being constructed were also prebuilds.

In this case Suffrage will be a pre build for TOE. If we want Suffrage too, we'll need a leader. I'm OK with this if you are. I think we have a fair chance of generating a leader against the Romans if we so desire. Unfortunately OFW you won't have that pleasure as we need to stay at peace with the Romans for all of your ten turns to avoid getting the WW back.

The Mongols on the other hand are a completely different matter.

The alternative is to try to build Suffrage after TOE and cascade to Hoovers if we fail. Just 'feels' unsatisfactory to me.

Yes, using Suffrage basically as a prebuild for ToE seems fine to me. Suffrage can't much affect the timing of our victory at this point, and according to Bamspeedy's researches it isn't even all that useful against WW. It's just a point of style whether we get it or not.

Of course, with the palace prebuild also available, we could just construct one of the two somewhere other than Pasargadae.

okay guys I did not see your last 2 posts there until after I played.

here ya go.
preturn, I switch Xinjian, herat and Charsadda to factories.
everything else good to go.

1. 1295 AD learn The Corporation, go for Electricity (6 turns). I start a few stock exchanges. try to build more troops in cities with barracks and some more workers.

2. 1300AD Lower slider to still get electricity in 5 turns. Pi Ramses looks like the pick up point on the new continent for future greek war, I start sending Cavalry and Cannons there.

3. 1305AD I decide in cities with barracks if it is worth my time to alternate between military and builder. Upgrade 10 caravels for 200gold. now we can transport more. Trade wm's around and gain around 100 gold from the civs we have beat up on and some from the others.

4. 1310AD lose spices raise lux to 10%. just building railroads.

5. 1315AD Russia and Babylon sign an MPP. I decide to trade Corporation to Russia for Dyes, WM, 89 gold and 40gpt.(they are now broke). I then trade Steampower to Carthage for 50 gold, Spices, WM and 14gpt.(they are now broke).
Lux to 0% Science 60% 2 turns from electricity

6. 1320AD Russia demands 100 gold and TM, I tell her to go away. And she wanders off mumbling something about she's gonna kick our butt's or something like that:lol:

7. 1325AD Electricity learned-Scientific Method 4 turns at 70%. +64gpt. I am probably building a few things you might want to change. I get abit confused when my empires get this big sometimes
We lose our incense. Hurry Aqueduct, Barracks and Temple in 3 cities by Greece.

8. 1330AD Start Military Academy in Perseopolis. Science to 60%(3turns at +176gpt)

9. 1335AD Start Palace prebuild for whatever you want to in Shiraz(I hope ya can put it to good use) Rush Harbor in Pi-Ramses. Upgrade 1 more Caravel.

10. 1340AD I have started to send Forces , Cannons and Cavalry to Hyangsan next to greece. We still have a Fairly decent force next to and/or close to Rome in Lesser Neapolis. We also have 3 elite s in New Antioch near a very weak looking mongols(2 cities, they also have another up north by 2 of our smaller towns)
I don't make war, I am feeling peaceful at the moment(you know 5 days off from work:D )
I also started a settler in Hyangsan to send in with cannons when we feel the time is right for Greece.

Notes:
Shiraz Palace Prebuild for ?
Pasargadae is I think 3 turns from Universal, so the switch to ToE will make that quick.
Perseoplolis is on Military academy. If you want it there or it could be prebuilding also.
Mongols would be easy to take, but beware of the citie up north by ours.
3 Galleons are on there way to Hamadan port, and I am building a frew more and at least 1 Ironclad

Well there ya go.

The Save

Looks like another good turn. :goodjob:

That's quite a novelty, rejecting a demand and not getting into a war.
