Perhaps it's the fact that they are reported to the public that makes them less likely to commit another crime. Perhaps, doing the same with murderers, arsonists, bank robbers, wouldn't be all that bad of an idea.

Or perhaps it is just that murderers and arsonists are in fact less sane and more violent than people with moderate sexual perversions.

I myself have not looked at the facts closely. I don't know who is more likely to recommit, or how widespread these problems actually are (although Bill3000's post sheds a bit of light). It is just clear to me that society's reaction to these kinds of crime are so out of proportion to their reaction to other, potentially more serious crimes. Yes, child rapists are bad, but the problem is the huge spectrum of people that lay between them and that poor sap in Atlanta who got caught with a girl from his own school ( ). Is the reaction rational and in line with judicial precadence?

Lolicon and shotacon? Is that computer generated porn? Or just a 30 year old broad wearing pigtails and a mini skirt?

A form of hentai. You can wiki it, but it's drawn porn in the anime style, basically. In this case, of little girls and boys. Popular in Japan, and is one of the reasons why Japan is considered more perverted than the west. Japan does not have a sense of morality based on Christianity.

Its more about accessing the mind as to why they do it and finding a solution rather than turning them into a different class of person.
And as I said before, one doesn't need to be a pedophile in order to rape a child - the majority of child rapists arn't, and that's statistically validated. Given the fact that I quite literally saw such a statistic in my local newspaper about the issue, I'm quite sure that it can be easily found by research if you need it.

A sticky subject. When is over 18 too much? Is 21 too old? What about a 17 y/o and a 20 y/o?
I will never understood why Americans are so hung up on this. Here once you are fifteen you can go sleep with a geriant for all the law cares and nobody considers it sick.
