Okay, finally, what exactly is an "emo kid"?

I've never heard of those bands. They seem to be far less popular than the emo thing is common.

You here the term Emo without connecting it to the music because people use the term to refer to people who listen to the music.

The rest of it actually sounds like the typical depressed teenager.

Cause Emo kids are depresed teens who listen to different music and dress differently. Just like how preppy kids dress different then normal kids and listen to different music. jsut a style taht has lyrics to go with it.

Its crap mostly, to be frank. Not really poetry in any sense.

I take strong offence to that. I write lots of poetry and no many non-emo people who consider it quite good.

I don't have anything against people who don't have the same style as me. Gothic people, for instance, can be pretty dang cool.

Sounds like these people who think they are so special that they need to dress like all the other so special people and read the books and listen to the music all the other special people listen too because they are all so individual. They exist everywhere, I guess.

I know a good deal of emo kids, and everyone of them are pretentious, pseudo artsy, histrionic, whiny immature douchebags. I'm sure there are exceptions, but these are the ones I know.

Plus, their poetry sucks! I read it and it all by necessity includes:

1) a reference to a dagger stabbing something.
2)"worthless"
3)unrequited love in the form of a teddy bear.

Actually I would have found many of these girls attractive when I was 15 or so.

They like emo guys more then I like emo girls. Which is 3/4 of the reason I dress the way I do. The other 1/4 is because their are no other emo/scene kids in my highschool.

Indeed. My wife and I have finally admitted that being in our mid-30s we are no longer hip. Meh, being hip was overrated anyway, at least now I have money.

What I don't really get is why people despise them so much. Well fine, maybe they are pretentious idiots but they sounds like rather low-profile people, i.e. they won't beat you up or tell the teacher they saw you smoke pot or some stuff like that that would really reward despising people.
Isn't hating people for being like that even more lame than being like that itself?

I blame Kurt Cobain. It was him who made the whole self-loathing pathetic loser thing popular, since then quite a few people have made a considerable fortune feeling sorry for themselves.
