Old About Avatar's and How to get one!

Ok then I will use this as an example.

I want to keep the size of this file at 70x69 pixels but I want to bring the file size down to 4K. What steps would I need to take?
 
In irfanview, on the "save picture" menu, check the box that says "Show options dialog" and it'll bring up a box with a slider marked "save quality." Lower quality means smaller file sizes. :)
 
With Irfanview and a lot of other programs it's guessing game. The only graphics program I've got that shows the expected file size is Photoshop. Irfanview does however have a very aggressive compression algorithm, you shouldn't have to move the slider too far to the left.
 
Yes it is, if you pay for it. ;) I think it's about $600 unless you can get an educational discount.
 
I've just thought of one freeware program that will do the job - the Trout Gif Optimiser (which does do jpeg files too)

edit: My mistake, it does show the expected file size but you can't choose the compression strength, you can only accept what it offers you.

GIMP is actually really cool and awesome. I learned in a minute the basics of how i works, and some things took a little longer to find, but found 'em. It's easy and casual. :cool:

Nope, its there because you're complaining about something that's not to be comlpained for...

I am just beginning to try and you should see some of the messed up pics I have created. :lol:
 
well, i am kinda getting bored with my avatar, anybody have any cool ideas for one? or something with my name prefferably? i am yours to mold (well, not really)

EDIT: i have changed my avatar for now, might keep it if i don't see anything else i like

How about a smiley holding a sign that says "Ybbor!" or something.
Maybe just a smiley?

Maybe the logo of your favorite sports team
A logo of your favorite sports team, using the name "ybbor's"
