Onan's Speed-Optimized GMR Game

So Russia has gotten a new source of Cotton. The Aztecs put up a Great Wall in a night. This fun game might be %$^%# by a patch.:gripe::wallbash:[pissed]

I'm sending to the Egypt the Bill of the terrain cost they have to pay if they want Silver from Siam . My advisors told me that the Egypt population is begging Silver to the Pharaoh, because such resource is seem as necessary for a huge party they want to throw in honor to the Pharaoh . If the Pharaoh declines from this offer,I'm willing to supply any of my luxury resources to any civ who have Pearls . For Safety reasons, some informations aren't showed in this screenshot .

This trade will actually benefit Siam more than Egypt. (@3 happy cap) Given Egypt's happiness cap and soon another social policy (cut capital unhappy in half) will hit so that Egypt will rely less on external happy sources. To fund all that terrain cost will not be in the best interest of Pharaoh.

But to forge a future friendship with Siam, Egypt is willing to double the proposed subsidy to 1gpt + 10g. That's the best offer Egyptian businessmen can do.

By the way, it seems Siamese did not use the trick to lock on food tiles while put the city on production focus. It's not a big deal at this stage though, but early in the game can net you very crucial hammers. GMR game is perfect style to max every bit of micro, and play a turn for like 15 minutes or more, look for any information in the global dip or statistics. That's how I played Speed in the early terms.

It seems, though, that Firaxis' patch plans may trump this discussion...we'll see if the game's playable tomorrow, and if not, if Mel has an ace up his sleeve to fix the anticipated problems.... Fingers crossed, but feeling sad, like it may be the end of our world we've cultivated for three months now.

Yeah, we'll see how the patch goes. You all could potentially go to the game properties in Steam and tell it not to keep the game up-to-date. Mel and I will have to update, though, so we can investigate changes to save files. Unfortunately, if Firaxis themselves couldn't convert the files as part of the patch, it's unlikely that we'll be able to fix broken ones.

I've never heard of such a practice. Could you enlighten me on what you mean, oh great Pharaoh? I fail to see how such a small thing could reap any great reward.

Do not listen to the whispered advice of the Egyptian Pharoah as he speaks out of both sides of his mouth. He offers advice in the form of archaic practices that do not give the maximum benefit. By letting his advisors decide on the focus of his workers, he is leaving money, food and production on the table.

We Songhai leaders believe in personal interaction with our workers in the field rather than leaving it to our advisors and lock on every tile to be used in the early game each round in every city so that we can maximize the next baby born while also getting the proper amount of production. That way the advisors will not go back and select a tile that is not desirable for the long term goals of the city.

You can also see how insidious the Egyptian spy network is. Rather than rely on first hand reports, he unworks one tile at a time to drop his food output, production output or gold output in order to constantly pester the great historian Heterodus by chanting "Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the most productive of them all?" and then being able to determine the exact production of the other civilizations using these vile and deceptive practices.

Of course he has long been envious of the productivity of the Songhai people and therefore uses his propaganda to undermine them from afar rather than face them on the field of battle. If he could murder his own babies to see the populations of the other nations I am sure he would.

Great news guys! I think our game will be fine post-patch. I just updated to the beta version of today's patch and was able to load our Speed game without any problems. From my testing so far the patch only seems to cause errors if you're playing with DLC civs :)

That representation of the Siamese capital was just to show why do Siamese leader request 60 pieces of gold from Pharaoh . In no way shows the current activity in this city . The Pharaoh may agree with the idea of patronaging the border expansion of Gao in exchange of happiness for the peasants of his wondrous empire . We Siam, may agree with a change on this dealing to +50g+open borders, which will allow us to explore the Fur resource on the north, increasing the range of luxury resources we can trade . About your current offer,We are willing to accept it.if you can find to us,someone else who wants to patronage the Cultural expansion of Gao in exchange of either Silver or Fur . For this new partner,I offer a special price for Silver or Fur,if such partner is willing to trust on Siamese leader .

We enjoy suggestions of our friends to speed up the development of my cities . Fortunately,we want to focus on Food first,as the 8th citizen will be more useful than few hammers .

No problem for me with the DLC one. In fact, all games went fine.

Egypt declared war to Songhai?

This is Great news!

...another trade war, no doubt.

Yay the save file worked. We can carry on hiding in our corner of the world hoping to avoid notice.

Egypt declared war to Songhai?

Yes everyone can see the clear treachery of the Egyptians. They declare war over a minor trading dispute they are not even involved in. We Songhai will defend ourselves vigorously against this incursion and all major projects have now been put on hold in favor of creating a vigilant defensive army.

The trick is to grow your city by forcing every citizen to work on the food tile manually, then put the city on production focus. When the city population grows, it automatically works on a high production tile, which gives extra hammer. After city grows, put the new citizen to work food tile manually again. Food will not be lost but gain extra 2 hammer every citizen was born.

Consult Aztec's video if Egyptian language is hard to grasp.

Egypt will treat any civ leader equally as they treat other civs. Songhai begged for trade embargo. Egypt is willing to go peace if Songhai promises to adopt modern business ethics and uphold the rule of contract.

The other words are propaganda. This paragraph is filtered to further the world's knowledge of baby boom.

...another trade war, no doubt.

Our brave scouts on the Egyptian front bring tidings of bloodshed and mayhem. After the declaration of war by Ramses, he sent his war chariots to attack the Songhai diplomatic entourage as it returned home from failed negotiations to appease the bloodthirsty Egyptians.

Caught completely by surprise, many of the diplomats, their families including women and young children, perished under the hail of arrows fired by the war chariots. A few survivors were able to make their way to a local wheat farm, where they were able to forage for food and avoid detection for several years while rebuilding their strength. However, things look grim for our Songhai heroes as the war chariots, 2 wounded warriors and an Egyptian worker all close in on them. We Songhai can only pray that they die with honor, knowing that they will be avenged.

There is no end to the Egyptian villainy as they have proven they will attack anyone without provocation on the flimsiest of pretenses. Even their own people have decided to turn against the rulers and provide succor and shelter to our diplomats (that Wheat was quite tasty by the way thank you!)

Grave tidings from abroad! We hope the incident between the Egyptians and the Songhai does not deteriorate further, and hope both leaders can step back from the brink of full scale war. Especially the Egyptians who seem to have precipitated this incident, if the Songhai are to be believed....

The Roman senate has passed a motion to investigate the severe time dilations which seem to emanate from the Indian empire. We have sent our scientific teams with their instruments to lob sounding projectiles into the Indian cities, in order to measure the flight time and confirm or deny that the time dilation worsens the further into the Indian empire we progress. These instruments have been accompanied by protective units, in case any of the locals object to our presence. Indeed, some of these 'locals' have already been eliminated, as they impeded our testing.

Never let it be said that the Roman Empire will not stand up for the entire world, in fighting this alien menace to us all!

The above is a sketchy initial report from the field; details are unclear. We are unsure how long messages take to return to us from the neighborhood of the time vortex. But we will endeavor to keep the peoples of the world informed.
