one place in the world you DONT want to go

WTh why you can not base a whole country on a few bad apples?

It's not my idea of a good time to live in countries that lawfully - under sharia - oppress women and gays and secular people. I won't be a dhimmi.

It's not about a few bad apples. A few bad apples would be criminals in New York or skinheads in Europe.

One of those African countries perpetually being torn by civil strife. No thanks.

One of those African countries that's completely destroyed by civil war. You know, the ones in which the freedom fighters are wearing hot pink shorts, life vests, graduation gowns etc.

That's most Liberia.

That's said, Africa, anywhere in it.

New York City and Chicago probably in the states, Tijuana, and as much as I like the culture/food/people and such Airstrip One (England).

North Korea

I'm not very good at listening to BS. They might say something on the tour that I'd have to respond to, and then I might get in trouble. I'd probably seem disrespectful when I refuse to bow at that statue of Kim Il-Sung where they make lay flowers.

Its actually safe for tourist and might be even interesting...

This is what I thought: not much chance of running into a mugger on the streets of Pyongyang...

But i wont go Somalia, Iraq and all those under conflicts.

Ditto. I think I might add Pakistan to that list for the moment...

As long as you don't say anything that could possibly be perceived as an insult. I recall reading of one British lady who was detained for three days in a NK jail when she asked why Kim Jong-il was the only fat man in North Korea.

There aren't many places I would hate going, but there are a myriad of places I would hate staying.

Indeed. The "hate going" places are pretty much those with an exceptionally high concentration of violent people (that would prefer to see me dead, so no mentions of the Pentagon or my alma mater please). Chunks of Iraq, Afghanistan, the nastier bits of former SSRs, swaths of sub-saharan Africa, and a zip code or three in many US major cities all qualify. As for where I'd least like to live, it'd involve climate, social, economic, and political factors. Or in other words, Arkansas.

Having lived in Arkansas, I can assure you, there are worse places to live.

But New York City is better ever since our hero Giuliani turned it into a shining jewel from the cesspool of David Dinkins!

I'm sure there are far worse places than NYC in this country to be. Like Camden, NJ or Compton.

Camden and Philly feed off one another. No joke. Their criminal statistics are astounding. New York doesn't come close.

I went over to Zimbabwe for Christmas '00, right when all the ZANU-PF were causing a bit of trouble on the white farms, one of them I went to (although nothing much happened, just loads of squats walked passed us). It was a beautiful country, though, if you ignore the shanty-towns.

EDIT: I don't think there's anywhere I don't want to go. I know that I want to go to India, Bangladesh and Pakistan sometime within the next few years, but that's it...
