We would use the 'common' way of presidential elections? Meaning two rounds: If no one makes 50% or more the first round, the highest 2 will compete in the 2nd round.

This would probably mean we can choose between an Indian and a Chinese candidate.

he's not doing too badly either.

Well, since you love his brand of governing style, why don't YOU move to Cuba? Have fun listening to those five #$#&in' hour speeches.

My beef with Carter is that he let fundamentalists in Iran and the Soviets to expand their empire. That is a BAD president.

There's nobody on that list who I would select as world leader.

Ex US presidents? Yeah right. Only the current president is a worse choice.

Bill gates? He certainly lacks the. . .testosterone, to be in any real power.

To make americans feel better no other current world leader could do it either without obvious favouritism towards his/her home country either. That's the biggest problem I think with selecting a world leader. Most would make the world a better place for their own country and not bother with the big picture as much as they should as an impartial world leader.

It would probably be those Illuminati, Bilderberg, Bohemian Grove and Mason thugs, and those big corporate banking thugs behind our economic collapse, the shooting in Norway, ETC...

Now who SHOULD it be? Absolutely nobody. We should disband the UN, EU, NATO, G7, G20, get rid of NAFTA, etc... If one country get's screwed with a bad government, at least there are others to go to, which is a great argument to make on a states' rights stance here in the US.

If I had no choice, though, I'd probably pick someone like Andrew Jackson, minus the bad treatment of minorities part, mainly because he didn't put up with banksters. Coolidge would be great, too, because he let people do what they want and just sat in office, doing almost nothing but lowering taxes and passing controversial immigration reform. That means he wasn't controlling people nor screwing people up, and the states managed just fine on their own.

My vote would go to Winston Churchill or to FDR.

FDR was dreadful. He just happened to be president during WWII, and his policies for the Great Depression were harmful to say the least. It's like saying Stalin was a great leader for the USSR because he was their leader during a war period (WWII again), but he killed millions of his own citizens.

Looking at one aspect doesn't help. And if you think FDR got us out of the Depression, you're kidding yourself.

I was wondering why Obama wasn't up there, but now I see why given the thread's age!

I'd imagine someone European or someone Chinese. The United States is seen as too right wing by much of the world, though we could probably get a coalition with the UK and Australia to help out...

Though, democracy wouldn't go far in a world government as is. India and China would dominate the election and then find a few allies to elect their candidate.

What we could have, is a legislature composed of population in the lower house and one member for each country in the upper house. This way, neither majority nor minority can oppress the other.

As for an executive branch, we'd probably have one like Switzerland's - several people rather than one leader. A Consulate of sorts.... half democratically elected, half elected by the upper house. Majority and minority interests are protected.
