I can’t find a fighter that I’m happy with so you’ll have to suggest one. What I want is a combination of the Star Wars X-wings shape and the vectored thrust extremities and conservation of none-central mass of the Battlestar Galacticas Viper.
The longer the lines of X and Y the greater leverage you have (faster manoeuvring) but, any mass away from the central mass exacerbates centrifugal inertia. The dynamics of a spacecraft are totally different to an aircraft in that you cannot plane and there is no drag so your velocity and vector won’t change unless acted upon.
If you want to turn left you’ll have to roll 90 degrees to port, decelerating with equal counter thrust, pull up 90, apply counter thrust and fire the main engine. That’s without worrying about orientation to the capital ship or your current vector.
This is the motion path for the simplest course correction of 90 degrees to port whilst in motion.
Design flaws can turn pilots into puddles in no time especially given the cumulative thrust inevitable with dogfight in space.
I’m going to give you a guide to cut and paste graphics.
Open Paint and Google
Type what you want into Google images
Find a good picture
Copy and paste it to Paint
Square the picture
Reduce the size to 128 x 128 pixels
Save this copy as NAME_LG
Reduce the size to 32 x 32 pixels
Save this copy as NAME_SM
Then finally convert the files to a PCX format
Just as a point of clarification, I wouldn't reduce the size of the 128x128 to get the 32x32. It's always better to take the original in both cases and reduce down separately. You'll get much better results.
*Edit - Just realized that you forgot to mention indexing the images before saving to PCX. In any event, chicknex4 I believe has GIMP and there are plenty of tutorials in the GUIDE section for this. Here's one from Gray Wolf - GIMP PCX tutorial .
