Online petition for an updated Civ III editor

... what do you mean.. show? Placing things on a map in the editor, is that what you are talking about?

What I meant was that when ever you lay a resource on a terrain, and that resource doesn't use one of the original designs that the resource would still show up as the design you selected, not just a blank space.

You guys keep mentioning talking to a programmer from the Civ3 project. Are you aware that Brad Oliver was a regular poster on the Civ3 Mac subforum? He was a key programmer in the Mac port, and went so far as to give us a patch he worked on in his own time. If you guys can avoid spamming him so badly that he disappears completely his advice might be a potential resource.

Did anyone contact this fellow? He has not posted on Civfanatics for about 9 months, but I believe I found a blog of his online, but that also has had no posting for some time.

But here on the Trade Advisor the 3 new icons can be seen!

This mod only adds 3 new luxery resources with more happy penaltys to balance but, a mod with all new resouces means no icons on your city screen? Its a small thing but with a game this tight with perfect order, a lot of small improvments is the way to equal a better game

I just dropped in the Balancer Reloaded Mod ;) Oh, but I see, If I had only 8 icons then the custom icons would have appeared in the Lux box's?.

In that case sorry then.- But it would still be nice to have new lux's get tacked on after 8. I mean you can remove the word 'POLLUTION' to make room. Here's hopin we get the fix

No, I mean after a certain amount of luxuries, when you open the city screen, the game crashes, IIRC...

:hmm: strange... I've never had a prob were thats concerned Im actually shocked you've never realized this was do-able. I mean dude, what?, never played Balancer before? Sheesh its a classic man!! :) (joke)

Still Ive gone on somewhat to long about this but the point still stands We could use the abilty to show new resources in the lux box. Right now its blank spaces and thats crumby to me.

I wonder how much the MAC man can do for our Civ3 problems over here. That is a whole new language if Im not mistaken. THing is He was given the original source code to port over but sworn to secretcy so of course he could never help us.

Mybe he can slide it over to Blue monkey and he can say he cracked it over a 1000 cups of joe :coffee: :deal:

I won't go to town on this topic - but AFAIK you can use more than 8 luxuries, and I know that someone redid the city screen graphic so that the 9th luxury would fit in where the pollution is at the moment.

Hey,
If it's 'invisible luxuries' that's driving you crazy  , then I have the solution ( not sure about the crash thing, but if you want them to show themselves, then follow these easy steps)!

1. Find 'luxuryicons_small.pcx'. Should be located in Civilization III\art\city screen for PCs.(Don't know about Macs.)

2. cut, paste, draw, whatever, the picture of the resource into a blank light pink outlined square ( if it's to big, resize it; no more squares, make some [the same size]; and be sure to put them in order of apearance in the editor)

3. If it's a mod (and it should be), then save as to the directory, and

Volla! 'Visible Luxuries'! :D

I've find someone who agreed to help me see if we can do something to expand the game a bit.

I'm not sure it would yield any result, but I hope to know more about the feasability by the end of next week

More ideas for updated editor(plus a revised one)

*at least 45 civs
*religions(and not ones that are preselected to go with each civ.)
*More worker actions:
Build National Park(+1 or 2 happyness)
Build Lighthouse( acts like a harbor for ships: allows them to heal outside your terratory
Clear ruins(for my own resons :mischief: ...)
*Era-specific Roads!!! (Anciant: normal dirt roads, Middle: stone roads, Industrial: gray roads, Modern: Highways.
*Rebelions(the rebels could be just one civ, to reduce programing effort)(The rebelions could happen at random, or if you want to, you can start it!)

Ideas will continue to come, and I'm still hoping that something will happen (Hey, I'm optimistic! :D Can't help it.)

rifleman,
Two reasons,

1. To (hopefully) make it easier for the Firaxis to program.

and 2. If we have too many civs, our processors will probably get slow, or worse, stuck on doing the same thing for hours; ploting courses.;)

Also,
New civ III music coming to a civilization near you...
I'm starting to tweek the soundtrack for civ III; not an easy task, at that. I'll fill you guys in once I get it running.
