1050(20): Temple in Ashur gets :whipped: (we must improve our Culture we are Babylonians!)

So to sum it up we have a crappy start position ( no rivers, just one gem, only one direction to expand) but i hope we can finish Pyramids (due in 32; neither Mao nor Jean are building it yet); Babylon is biggest City at the moment; but other stats shows us near the bottom of the world but we have more culture than China and France.

Good Luck hotrod0823 :)

I have the Game and will play later tonight!

The start so far sounds pretty good. Hope my reign continues our progress to victory!

It sounds like all is going well!!! School killed me yesterday so I didn't get a chance to stop by, but today's more of a breather! YAY! ;) I'm sorry for the errors I've made so far, but hey I'll learn from them and we'll still be #1 ;) It also looks like we're all doing just fine!

Just a note to everyone else who may see: These games are welcome for you to download at any time, but this is not an open game anymore...I'm sorry I messed up on terminology--it's my first SG, and I didn't realize Open meant not only that we needed people but also that there was no set order. My bad. I hope there's no confusion. Anyone can check it out and try things out from where they want to, of course, but *only* those listed in the order they are listed are considered official. For all the others--see if what you would do is what they end up doing--that can be fun to see different strategies! See if you can do better! Play your favorite part of the game! Have fun with it, and enjoy our SG! Just please don't get it confused--my bad on terminology--there are 5 players that know who they are already.

I'll play some tonight--if I don't finish, I will finish up tomorrow afternoon and post then :)

Here's my turns:

570 BC - Uruk founded; started on a Spearman. This city will bring in a TON of spices, and also has a fish!

550 BC - Ur completes a Temple; begins on a Worker.
Eridu founded! Temple started on (warrior already in the city) to get the Iron source in our boundaries ASAP! There is also yet another spice!

490 BC - Ur produced a Worker; work started on Spearman

PYRAMIDS COMPLETE IN BABYLON!!! Pat yourselves on the back--we did great!

Work started on Oracle. (Note: Both China and France switched to Oracle, but not to Great Library...neither one knows Literacy--let's keep it that way :) Oracle is solely to prepare for the Great Library.

Ellipi produced a Temple; work begun on Forbidden Palace (gotta start it sometime...it'll take awhile...but faster than moving the Palace)

390 BC - Ninevah produced a Temple! Building Settler (to prebuild Library)
Asher produced Bowman! Beginning Worker.

370 BC - Bowman fortified in Ashur for now.
Ur produced a Spearman.

350 BC - Spearman fortified in Ur.
Warrior from Ur heads to secure another city site--one that puts us in a prime position to overthrow a Chinese city culturally--time to make these Temples and the Pyramids work toward us in another way :)
France trades Territory Map for our Territory Map and 1 gold (Accepted)
LITERATURE DISCOVERED! Work begun on Code of Laws. (We need courthouses soon, and it's on the way to Republic)

330 BC - Babylon working on the Great Library now! (Again, do us a favor and DO NOT trade the Chinese or French Literature! They don't have it right now, and seem to have their priorities elsewhere! Let's hope it stays that way!)

310 BC - China offers Territory Map for Territory Map (Accepted)

290 BC - Ninevah's borders expand! The red is spreading!

250 BC - Akkad produced Temple; starts on Library

230 BC - Ur produces Settler; work started on Library

210 BC - Settler heading toward the site the Warrior secured to win a city from the Chinese by culture!

190 BC - Not much else doing.

Summary:

It looks like we should head full force for a Cultural Victory--check out the Histogram, we are rockin' on culture, and #1 out of the known civs in the world! With this in mind, as well as research, I'm building Libraries all over. Great Library has 31 turns remaining in Babylon for science AND enormous cultural gain! Fobidden Palace (Ellipi) has 186 turns remaining--but we need it bad!

We're heading toward a Republic, 17 turns to Code of Laws, which will help some with the Corruption problem. Then we just need Philosophy and Republic.

We will need Marketplaces soon to help bolster our treasury.

Best wishes!

Sam

Preturn - Our military positively sucks - NO veteran troops.
Nineveh switch to barracks - we need quality military.
Ur switched to Worker - I want to improve Babylon to speed up the GL - This is critical here.
 What to do with the settler.
I switch the FP to Uruk - still to close to the capitial, but better.
Trade maps with India.
We are broke - so cut science way back. At this point, I have to gamble on the Great Library.

150 BC - Barracks ordered in Ur.
110 BC - Kyoto complets the Oracle, not good. What will be the cascade?
90 BC - GACK! - Chinesse border on the land mass to the east of Babylon.
We have no city sites for the near future - the settler joins our Capital.
Haven't done it in a while, but crack the whip in Akkad. It needs to go to military ASAP.
Nineveh orders our first veteran unit.
Akkad starts barracks.
70 BC - Ashur can get some production - kill those trees!
India starts Colossus.
France establishes an embassy - thank you - less money for us to spend.
50 BC - Ashur orders barracks.
30 BC - Iron connected - Ashur expands borders just in time.
 Persia completes the Hanging gardens - Monarchy is already known.
10 AD - Road to china completed - hmmm, Spices for wm and $90. We need cash more then we need wines.
70 AD - Veteran troops are appearing.
150 AD - France is building the Great Wall.
190 AD - China is building the Great Wall.

Summary - This is one of the worst starts I have seen. We really have out work cut out.
With disgust, I have continued the FP, just a little north in Uruk - I really don't what the FP that close to our capital, but ...

Upgrade our warriors to swordsman - build more spearman, without more troops we are bound for trouble.

Ik?

What makes it a poor start? Lack of military strength or poor city positioning?

From the begining the task was tough with the starting position.

The pyramids are ours and GL is soon to come but where do you see the trend going. Clearly you believe the military is lacking but is the goal a military that is offensive you mentioned swordsmen? Or strickly speaking defensive with a goal of getting a cultural victory?

My turns are 40 turns away but I am just interested in seeing what a vetern SG player such as yourself believes is a feasible strategy?

hotrod

Poor start - Capitial position. We only have *Three* productive cities right now. A fourth when enough forest is cleared. This just is just way to little produciton.

Normally I can get 10 or more core cities with production.

Strategy for now - stay alive -
This is why I want troops.
If we are percieved as to week, they will attack.

This is very much going to be look for an opening game, I don't know what is will be.

Cultural victory 100,000 requires a lot more cities.
Cultural victory 20,000 - Hmmm, we need some more wonders from Babylon.

What we need is to take over some cities...but not militarily. Building cities near existing Chinese/French cities would allow us to take them over easily without repercussion. :)

??????????????????
With the GL so close, why where you trading techs???

War with China - Hmmm....., didn't I say we need more military?
I knew this was bound to happen - military civs are brutal - just pray China can't build riders.

440AD (IT): waking two Workers in Ninive to do more Improvements . Elite Sword dies near Canton

450AD (1): Ur fin Horse starts SM Vet SM defeats a spear in Canton and gets promoted: Worker near Ashur send to Uruk to clear forest and Jungle. Jap found Izumo in the desert south of Uruk.

460AD (2): regular Sword survives first attack but dies in second a great will be errected for his momorial Elite Sword defeats Spear in Canton and Canton is ours [dance] Pike ordered 4 workers enslaved. Horsie attacks a lone warrior and dies L

470AD (3): Osaka finishes Collossus aforementioned Warrior gets executed.

480AD (4): India starts Lighthouse French and China Sun-Tzu

490AD (5): Babylon fin Pike starts Lighthouse paid 49 gold for an Embassy in Delhi

500AD (6): Ur fin SM starts Horse; a road near Canton pillaged to slow Chinese. A reg Sword and a Vet Horse defeat 2 Spears in Tsientsin and Tsientsin is now a proud Babylonian city . Spear ordered chinese workers send to build road to connect Tsientsin with our Empire.
Recognizing we are still Despotism I started a revolution.

510AD (7): We are now a Monarchy

520AD (8): a Road between Shantung and Tatung is pillaged

530AD (9): Ashur fin SM starts Horse a Sm gets killed near Canton: Another road is pillaged -> Tatung and Xinjian are no longer connected to Beijing.

540AD (10): Our Horse gets attacked and must retreat pillaging another road J Ninive fin Pike starts anew

550AD (11): Ur fin Hors starts new; Ellipi fin SM starts new

560AD (12): Eridu fin Barracks starts Sword our southern Horsie pillage another road and Tsintao losses contact with Beijing. Road near Canton is pillaged so there is no road connection between china and Babylon on the chinese territory.

570AD (13) Canton fin Pike starts new; Joan gives 5gpt for Spice and starts Sistine. An Embassy is founded in Japan(81gold): Our southern Horse gets caught and killed L in the north a Horse pillage some vineyards.

580AD (14): the northern Horse gets attacked by a Sword and wins :D.

590AD (15): Ashur fin Horse starts SM; Ur fin Horse starts Cathedral; Ellipi fin Sword starts Pike;
2 elite Sword attack Beijing and win and a great Leader emerge [dance]; sadly the last defender wins against our vet Sword but we have a Leader .
I sent the Leader to Canton and created an Army couse:

a) we can build Heroic and get more Leader later for Wonders;
b) we can Build MilAk which is always a good thing
c) we don’t want the FP in Uruk. It is much better to have it in Shanghai which means kill China :die!:

600AD (16): China reinfoces Beijing so I moved the troop to threaten Nanking. A Elite and Two vetSwords are filled in the Army.

610AD (17): Theologie drops out of the GL. Some pillaging in the south with a Horse

620AD (18): Mao calls and ask for peace. On my offer that he have to put some city in the deal he answered: I would rather eat dung befor I accept such a deal well, well eat dung you will I asure you :die!:

630AD (19): Pi-Rameses fin Lighthouse Babylon switched to Sistine. Our troop gets attacked between Nanking and Beijing. And wins easily (Its always good to have a pike with them :D )
Road between Nanking and Beijing pillaged.

640AD (20): Army wins first Battle at Beijing and nearly dies  troop on the way to Chinese Iron source: if we get it this would be the deathblow for Mao.

So we can now build Heroic; A pike is guarding the Army as soon reinforces are ready retreat the Army to heal. Canton produces Cata to soften those pikes a bit. WE don’t want peace with Mao we need his land!! Otherwise it would be very difficult to win the game . Southern Horse can do a lot of damage.

Good Luck hotrod0823 :)

1 - Cancel the FP in Uruk, switch while we can build something with flushing shields. We can do courthouse in 1 turn :)

2- Temple next in Canton! Add a second entertainer, and freeze growth mode until China is dead. I don't want no stinking flips.

3 - KILL China - Period, this is our change to become a power.

4 - Wake the swordsman in Babylon up!

5 - "A pike is guarding the Army as soon reinforces are ready retreat the Army to heal" - I actually disagreee here - retreat now. We don't have enough troops to attack with, and we can't heal in China borders.

6 - How in the world did Japan get a city over here??????

7 - Nanking looks like a great FP location

(1) 650 ad: Ur changed to HE - begin retreat of Army and pikeman protection immediately, Move toward IRON with pikeman and elite SM - send damaged elite with army to heal

(2) 660 ad: Move closer to iron defeat 1 chinese swordsman, almost all citys producing SM in 5-6 turns

(3) 670 ad: Army back to Canton - Swordsman approach Chengdu

(4) 680 ad: pillage iron and hold position with elite swordsman, pikeman and a horseman - defeat 1 pikeman in Chengdu

(5) 690 ad: capture Chengdu - approach Nanking and Shantung with Swordsman

(6) 700 ad: capture Shangtung wait for more troops to head south and take Tatung

(7) 710 ad: continue march to Nanking - upgrade 5 spearman to pikeman

(8) 720 ad: Army at 10/13, move out fully recoved elite swordsman toward Nanking troops

(9) 730 ad: Move army out toward Nanking troups - Mao continues to send archers to attack Swordsman - no major damage - have to make a few strikes

(10-13) 740-770 ad: move all available troops to Nanking

(14) 780 ad: took Nanking - lost 1 reg. swordsman

(15) 790 ad: Rest army in Nanking - 1 resitor

(16) 800 ad:Education cancells effects of GL

(17-18) 810 - 830: Moving swordsman and army toward Chengdu and preparing to take Shanghi - 820 Heroic Epic completed in Ur, 830 Macao sees the light and overthrows the ruler Mao.

(19) 840 ad: Some swords man in position to take Shanghi but waiting for reinforcements from the north - Can now build knights (may be needed to take Capital) Mao looks to have all remaing Pikeman in the Capital.

(20) 850 ad: Shanghi troops waiting for the order - troops

Summary: I didn't expect a full scale attack on China at this stage but you play what is delt. Basically, made Swordsman - won some battles lost a few Swordsman along the way but took 3 cities by force 2 more poised to be taken soon and Culture flipped 1. China has been weakened but not yet defeated. I didn't see your post lK before my turn but did some of your requests.

Good luck Sam!

Got it; played a few turns, need to go back to studying for a test tomorrow (how cruel is that?!)--I will get it up tomorrow night about this time :)

I know that the Army won't heal. i just wanted it to stay to prevent chinese troops in Beijing to move out and attack our Iron-task force.

Anyway it turned out that it didn't matter seems he is already to weak to withstand us.

:goodjob: hotrod :)

Good Luck with your Test ButSam

And Happy Easter to all of you :)
