:) Good point :) We appear to be #2 in size, so if we build the UN (which we HAVE to do) then it will be us versus the Persians...we should probably be inordinately nice to everyone from here on out, but not to the point that it hurts our research (at least until we get to UN...we need to be the first ones there!) or the like. I noticed that even being nice to Japan, they still strongly disliked us. Persia, thankfully, thinks we are wonderful. The others are left to have their opinions swayed.

A good tactic I know of is offering spare luxuries (which we have a lot of) for free, then cancelling it after 20 turns and reinstating it again a turn after cancelling it. They love it when you give them free stuff, especially free happiness-generating luxuries :)

We should start kissing up now though. France has no reason to vote against us, but also no real reason to vote for us...Japan just hates everyone most likely. I can foresee a war between Persia and Japan coming up soon too--we may want to consider taking sides with Japan in case that occurs--that will give us Japan's undying gratitude when the Persians decide to expand outward more, and we'd only hurt the Persians, who are our competition anyway. A MPP with the French would likewise also probably be a good idea; I'm sure they feel very uncomfortable...but only MPPs IF we know we are going for Diplo and can get a military force that is capable of taking over a few Persian cities. Right now, there's a lot that hinges on Theory of Evolution, and on where the Oil is. That could make all the difference in letting us catch back up...

As far as a diplo win can any civ build the UN or just us? I have never tried for that? Also how often are votes called?

Any civ can build it, but the civ that builds it automatically gets a vote in the UN, no matter how they rank in the world. If France, for instance, built it, then the choices would be: France, Babylon, Persia. The top 2 in size always have a seat, and the person who built it always has a seat.

The person who builds the UN wonder also decides whether or not to hold an election--quite a good power to have, even if you aren't shooting for Diplo...but almost essential when you are. So we can hold the vote only when we know Persia won't win if we build it. ;)

If we build it, the choices for voting would most likely be:

Persia, Babylon.

With only 2 choices, it will, of course, be easier to win. If Persia builds it, then it will also only be Persia and Babylon for the choices in the election, but then Persia gets to decide when the voting takes place...we want to be able to do that so we can assure Persia won't win diplomatically. That's why we NEED to build it...and RIGHT when we get to the Modern Age, our research needs to be toward the UN (I don't remember the exact tech, but it's toward the beginning of the tree)...hopefully, our free tech will go toward that goal :)

Anyway, that's why we NEED to get the UN, which is why we NEED to catch up on research, which is why we NEED to get Theory of Evolution and keep our research % high (we don't want someone else to research the UN advance before we do!), which is why I mass-built Libraries/Universities.

One final tip for everyone. Remember that the FASTEST you can research any tech is in 4 turns, so researching at 50% when it takes 4 turns may be overkill if you can research at 40%, get more money, and still have it only take 4 turns :) You can't get the research faster than 4 turns...and for that matter, it can't take longer than 40 turns either. So put research as high as you can, but higher than researching in 4 turns is pointless.

PS: In one of my sp-games as Babylon, China was definitely a lot larger than me, but China warred with a bunch of people the end of the Industrial/beginning of Modern and I was able to get a Space Race victory...my point is don't be scared that Persia is larger than us...let's just hope they decide to fight Japan ;)
 
Agreed that we shall give our Lux freely when UN is near (with Fission) but I'm against a MPP this wcould lead to get into other wars like France against Japan too . If we have a MPP with both we will loose Reputation and so perhaps the Vote. Trading with the AI without breaking any Agreements would possibly enough. As far as i know Xerxes he will wage war against any Cív on our Continent thats for sure. Another thing I'm against an MPP is if we suffer on warweariness we have to drop out of Democracy and that will hurt our Research big time

True, good point; we should wait.

The advantage of MPPs is they tend to make a country love you to pieces...we can do that just before the vote so we have a very minimal chance of getting drug into a war, but still get the benefit. If ANYONE goes to war with Persia, we should think about helping IF we already have the UN, because research will not matter as much as their vote once we get the UN.

I hope Persia goes to war with Japan, and France has to join in by virtue of MPP...then we'd have them preferring us over Persia as long as we're nice to them. India probably has a MPP with everyone except us, just because that's how they usually are in past games, so they'd probably have to join in too. We can hope....

With losing the tech race we never had a shot to take out France.

1660 AD - Well I hope out lack of coal doesn't cost us ToE. Two squares without rails.
I shave 2 turns off with mining, but... I think I could have saved another.
I play the desperation gabmit - start palace in Beijing, praying that I can get the right for Hoover from the ToE.
1665 AD - Excess food in Canton is absurd! Begin massive mining project.
1670 AD - Start Atomic Theory research - Hoover is our only prayer.
I pay the price for not reviewing cities - Chengdu complete Catherdral before factory.

1675 AD - On to Beijing - just as screwed for to much food.
1680 AD - Still fixing Beijing.
1685 AD - Finally, I can get coal. Spice, wm, $230 to Persia.
1690 AD - Still trying to get cash above $1000, coal deal didn't help there.
With coal a long term question mark, I add a few new workers.
1695 AD - [dance] We get the ToE - Atomic Theory completes, Electronics complete, start Combustion - we badly need tanks.
1700 AD - Hoover in 13 turns.
Joanie threatens - bite me Joanie - She backs off.
1705 AD - I've been working on the railroad...
1710 AD - Fixing up Babylon for better production.
1715 AD - Fixing Nineveh for way to much food.
1720 AD - Researching Mass production.
1725 AD - We are starting to get some decent production.
1730 AD - Babylon now produces 30 shields :)
1735 AD - I've been working on the railroad...
1740 AD - The AI got mass production, the # turns is now 1.

Summary - We got production finally - We are AHEAD in tech by electronics.

I am hoping I will get another turn by tonight! I am leaving for Augusta, Ga in the Morning and will not return until Tuesday evening. Feel free to skip any turns of mine that I miss from Saturday AM until Wednesday PM.

Good luck with the :tank: and maybe you all will win before I return. Overall this has been a great learning experience for a first time SG player. 1.Persia declares war !:eek: We lead a coalition of the French , Indians , Japanese , & Babylon against the menace that is Persia . The economy is mobilised for war . Our first army , consisting of three swordsmen is unloaded , and cavalry is put in it's place . The second army is filled with infantry , and we rush a transport to carry troops to Persia in Tientsin .Tatung also switches to a transport .Infantries are conscripted as per need .We rush the Army in Ur .Many production centres are switched to infantry .We change the tax rates to ensure that we get motorized transport in 4 , not 5 turns .
2.Ur completes army , switched to Pentagon .Persia has its entire air force in Mendes . If we can take that , persia will be crippled .
3.Ashur switched to airport .
I'm going to try the tactic of converting his major cities to rubble with the superstack of infantry and artillery . Nothing he can do can withstand it . And when we get tanks (rubs hands in sadistic glee).:flamedevi
4.The two veteran Edfun Riflemen fall to two immortals .:mad: .Now we rebase all our fighters to Busiris . Next turn , when we put then on air superiority , I'd love to see the heap of Persian Bombers lying on the ground .

My one suggest for Rowain is to switch back to Democracy--we are religious, so even if we get into another war it won't be a big deal at all. :)

1 - Well, was it alliances with French , Indians , Japan?

If so, you trashed your reputation as it was less then 20 years, and you did not let the alliance expire.

UN victory will be harder.

2 - Never choose communism - no city will have much output.
If you are forced to abandon a goverment - go to monarchy - at least a few usefull cities.

3 - Revolt, bring back Democrarcy.

4 - Persia will be pissed the rest of the game.
RAZING cities is bad unless to plan to wipe the player out.
Expect another war.

I thought this is an illegit move? It is only possible with stack movement and can lead to later gamecrashes or has there been some changes ?

I agree about communism for twenty tuirns of war even Republic should work.

As for the UN i still think the other civ will vote for us onsteasd for Persia but risk is that Persia is maybe no longer Number one when UN arrives and that would make it harder. If we have taken a rep-hit i don't know yet (have not had time for civ). Expect my turn for Wednesday-eve (GMT).
I doubt that Persia will attack soon again. I guess Fission should be around soon.

Don't worry about the others being annoyed at us . India broke the alliance before me , so our relations are polite-gracious . Japan is only annoyed , I played a few turns beyond and they can be appeased . Only the french are the ones seriously to be considered as antagonists when it comes to the vote .
