Orbis Bug Thread (Old)

My machine runs [Generic First Person Shooter]* smoothly. There's no reason for these slowdowns, especially since I don't have this problem with FFH2 'classic'. I mean, FFH2 is still slow on huge maps, but with Orbis I experience 3 minutes downtime between turns, even on large maps with only 5 civs...

*Say, 'Prototype'.

Edit: I'm playing mostly on cintinent maps, which are ~70% water (rough guess). The slowdown occurs even without Hyborem being summoned (so no hell terain at all). Also, this occurs in *every* game I play.

Thanks for explaining the lychantropy bit, BTW.

it is your comp that is the issue, I run 18 civs huge map, 30 seconds between turns, (my comp is a hand-me-down, though it was designed to use auto-cad, and I got a $400 graphics card)

Yeah I agree that this game takes suspiciously heavy toll on my computer. It's obviously something connected to the internal mechanics of the mods. For example, I can run basic Civ4 on Huge maps without any slowdowns. Civ4 BtS with moderate slowdowns. FFH - Orbis is unplayably slow, every time.

I've simply assumed that the mods have pushed the game engine beyond what it was originally designed to do, and now the new scripts, html, python etc are all fighting for space in a somewhat clunky system. With huge maps, with hundreds of cities and thousands of units these things add up. Speeding up Orbis would require changing it into completely different mod.

Edit: Gratz to your comp, Civ King. Though I admit that an 18 civ map sounds like it would take forever to beat. I have enough trouble on 8 civ maps. :p

Out of curiosity, what Operating system are you using and how much RAM to you have installed?

my comp doesn't slow down... at all... but it is only a month old...and was quite expensive.... biggest game i ever played was 22 player, at huge :P got bored after 320 turns .. but no slow down so far...

Memory: 2048MB RAM
Operating system: XP pro
Video card: Nvidia GeForce 9400

Should be enough to run civ4, taking into account my 2-3 years old laptop (which was average when I bought it) managed to run civ.

Lucky you :p

Need help with this bug : when i launch Orbis, i get the " program has encountered an enconvenience and has to close" and the option to send an error report . I can still launch FFH2 without any problem. I had the same error when patching FFH2 to a, but it worked with b . Does Orbis require patch a or can b work too ?

Orbis in currently incompatible with BTS 3.19. As you're saying you are running FfH 0.41b fine, you are certainly updated to BTS 3.19. The Orbis version compatible with BTS 3.19 should soon be released ;)

Ok, it is finally out. Hope it works fine.

Remember to update your Civ install to 3.19 patch, also you have to have FfH version 0.41c installed. Remove old version of Orbis, remove fdolder in Mods directory and install again.
Not all fixes from 41c work as I did not have access to source files.

Time to bed for me, try ot to find too many bugs ;)

Thanks!!!

The new coastal city stuff seems cool. It really does help make coast cities more attractive for non-Lanun civs. The animals aren't entering borders again, thank you, and the spawning seems more reasonable.

Unfortunately the hill giants made a re-appearance. Four of them showed up in a big stack on turn 71 of an Epic game and preceeded to wipe out my units. So whataver was supposed to delay hill giant spawning didn't kick in right. I don't know if it was originally a stack of 5 and one got killed or if they spawn in groups of 4 now.

Did get a crash; I think it must have had to do with an animal attacking inside my borders because I spawned a lion Pack Leader from a lion den and then the game crashed when I hit END TURN. I will try to get another animal Pack Leader to spawn and see if I can repeat it or not.

I do think that most civs should get a big - to desert starts in the flavorstart. Not Malakim, of course, but most civs simply can't handle it and never get beyond one or two cities no matter what. I went in and added this to my own flavorstart but I think it should be by default. What is Clan supposed to do when they start in a giant desert with a tiny little 4 hex river to build one city near? Get wped out, thats what!

Lots of good stuff so far, don't take bug reports as me complaining :)

Upgrading an adventurer from warrior to horseman gave me gold.

I found another endless turn when playing Scion. The cause is a hill giant attacking Luchuirp capital. It try to bombard the capital then causing endless turn.
It looks like this problem not just for hill giant. My capital attacked by 6 doviello unit, 5 of them melee with ram. After they bombard my city, it become endless turn. Maybe because melee unit not mean for bombarding ?
I'll check for .24, downloading now.

TXT_KEY_UNIT_HOWITZER, um... that's what it is called in the 'Pedia (as such, you can't see 'em in the 'Pedia)
EDIT: Looking at the Mechanos in the 'Pedia, Verocchio is shown using Maer's thumbnail, and Maer is shown using Boris's thumbnail, however upon clicking it shows the correct leaderhead

Huh. Art for the Fishing Village, Pirate Port and the other are great
