Overlord Scenario Playtest Thread

Sent you an email.

I remember these Lancaster bombers, they made my life very difficult during the Australian campaign. I lost a lot of fighters fighting the bombers. :cringe:
Looking forward to the Chinese playtest. Do you also planning to write events for the Japanese Empire?

Yep - I slightly tweaked the values of the big bombers - They are still tough, but the later fighters can take them down, or the AA battery/radar combo will deal with them.
(sticking an AA battery on a mountain will attract them like flies to their doom!)

I'm making special events for all the factions, in fact, each faction will have a specific scenario devoted to them.
And thanks for the email...I will send the next version once I finish my current playtest and make a few edits...
:)

When you send him a copy would you mind sending me one as well? Jp.petroski "at" gmail.com

Thanks!

I shall do so! :)
I am aiming for Saturday - I'll let you know here when I send. :)

December 1940
Turn 1

Heavy japanese attacks in chinese mainland results in heavy casualties on japanese side. Our brave AA battieries fighting succesfully against Japan's bombers.
But the fight will get harder, so Chiang Kai-shek asking the Allies for helping the chinese people in their fight against the japanese aggressor.

Cities in Mongolia producing trade units while the cities on the front starting fortifying their units, awaiting japanese tanks and soldiers.

Turn 2

I tried to convince Stalin for a military alliance. Unfortunatelly he threatened me with his army. In a few turns maybe he wil join our fight against Japan. I need him for opening a second front, otherwise the whole japanese army will roll over the rest of China.
Unfortunatelly the US are too far away (I'm asking myself if Japan will attack Pearl Harbor on December '41) and Great Britain only has Hong Kong as a military base nearby.

My complete navy was destroyed by japanese bombers. Heavy battles near Lingling, Canton and Kwangchowan. Currently AA batteries are the best weapon for defending against japanese air raids.
An AVG Warhawk shot down a japanese Zero. I hope I will get more of these fighters soon.:)

Germany now controls Tirana, Belgrade and Tabriz. Heavy sea battles around England

February 1941
Turn 3

Japan continues their air raids against my cities and troops. Some japanese Artillery are spotted around Canton.

Meanwhile german tanks conquered Ankober in Africa. A lot of battles near the Channel between France and Britain.

Hold the line, General! Build those AA batteries and sell every foot of soil for a high price!

Since the German playtest went well, and ended up with a nuke fight in Asia...I think I might playtest as the British Empire, or Perhaps the USA...

Don't let me dissuade you if you want to play as the Brits, but I'm going to start up a match as them in prep for our MP game so I know what I'm doing for it.

In that case, I will have a go as the USA - I've been wanting to play as the scenario's powerhouse for a while...:)

In the final turn of my game as the Germans, I discovered a massive US fleet of near-invincible superbattleships
had somehow got past all my naval and air patrols, and was menacing the coast of North Spain. Knowing that not
even my six-engine Ju-290s can beat such a stack, I rewarded them with a nice atom bomb...

A fitting end to the play-through, and a lesson in how to deal with enormous and mighty ship stacks! :)

I'm blown away by the breadth of this scenario and think it's on the way to a mark of a true classic. I'm digging how you've left many elements up to chance, to an extent, such as not hardcoding when the Japanese and Russians will fight each other (in my game, it was turn 2!)

I've just started Britain which as you can imagine is a large civ to get one's hands around. My general strategy is going to be to chip away at the periphery so I can cover all my flanks and then eventually land in Europe. Well, Europe proper, anyway, because my very first task was to invade Norway! All except Tromso have fallen.

Likewise, I've taken Ethiopia from the Italians, and am sending as many reinforcements to Iraq and Egypt as I can. I'm using the Royal Navy to bombard North Africa, and plan to clean it up as fast as possible.

I see I have a massive deficit, so most cities are going to be building freight and freighters for a few turns.

Good fun so far!

More to come later...

Nice! Thanks for the compliment - From an excellent designer like you, it really means something.

Good luck, and you should be able to feed the empire's coffers with those trade trucks heading down to South America...:)

March 1941
Turn 4

Guderian thinks my nation is hopeless. Well , we will see. Japan and Russia cancelled their peace treaty. The Russians immediatelly started attacking the Japanese home island.
Good for me, as it will bind Japans troops in the Manchuria.

Still defending my cities against japanese air raids and ground attacks.

Germans conquered Athens and Salonika

May 1941
Turn 6

After a quit turn the Japanese war machine is back. My garrison in Changteh has surrendered.

Russians conquered Königsberg and signed a peace treaty with Japan.

Damn! The momentum will maybe change when they declare war on the Allies...:)
Then you can begin the fight back!
