P239-1: Friendly game of conquest/domination

2590 BC - Begin
Lincolin proposed a fight for our troops getting too close to America. Fight declined with idea that troops would leave area.

2550 BC (1)
W-South moved up 1 out of boundary for other (American?) territory. W-Center moved south 1 to meet W-South.
W-North moved 1 towards city. W-City moved 1 NE. Workers moved towards blue proposed city cite.

2510 BC (2)
Further advance movements in same directions for all chars.

2470 BC (3)
Workers in place for blue proposed city site. City Pasargadea founded.

2430 BC (4)
Civil unrest in home city. Complaints of being crowded.

2390 BC (5)
Troops continued to patrol. Set 1 W-S to fortify by a mountain. Science Advisor informs learning of Iron Working is done. Choose Alphabet (8 turns).

2350 BC (6)
Troops advancing on scout near new city.

2310 BC (7)
Troops advancing on scout near main city.
W-N is now in position near scout by new city.
Worker has started road to main city.

2270 BC (8)
W-N greets Iroquois scout. They are approx equal size army but frear ours. Their scientists are not as advanceds as ours. Our people are impressed by their cultural achivements. They have 1 city- Niagra Falls.

2190 BC (9)
Troops moving around to take positions.

2150 BC (10)
2 Troops are in place in south. 1 is near main city. 1 is exploring north. Worker is clearing forest. End turn.

I welcome any criticizm. I may not have the same strategy in mind as the rest of ya.

Pre-turn
Persepolis is rioting and nothing has been done to bring it back under control for the next turn. There is a warrior just one tile away that could be used as MP but he has already moved for the turn. Changing to 0.9.1 creates a happy citizen in Persepolis to balance the unhappy one.

Cities do not work on production or growth while rioting!

There was a warrior fortified in a mountain in the middle of the jungle-no enemies in sight. o.O

I'm changing Pasargadae from warrior to granary and moving the previously fortified warrior towards red dot site, will wait for settler.

1) 2110BC
Order is restored in Persepolis. Once back under control Persepolis finishes it's settler and no longer has an unhappy citizen due to population decrease. Back to 0.10.0. Persepolis starts a barracks. Warrior by Persepolis will move to Pasargadae.

2) 2070BC
Alphabet due in 1, reducing tech would mean getting it in 2. Slider stays maxed.

3) 2030BC
Start researching Horseback Riding. I don't want to continue deficit spending with such a low treasury. 1.9.0 for break even. Worker moves to wines.

4) 1990BC
Worker begins road to hook up that lux. That creates 1 happy person in every connected city. This will help prevent disorder in our cities in addition to MPs. However don't let our cities riot in the first place. If we have more unhappy than happy citizens in a city do something to change it! Either start spending on lux or create an entertainer. Even better is to plan ahead with MPs and lux resources.

5) 1950BC

6) 1910BC
Wines are hooked up and the people rejoice, or at the very least are less pissed. Worker begins chopping to speed up Pasargadae's granary.

7) 1870BC
Susa is founded and begins temple. It can work nothing but water and jungle until it's border expands to include the cow, game, and fish.

8) 1830BC
Persepolis is back to 4 population but has no need for lux spending this time because of the wines. I will start pumping some MPs out of that barracks next turn. Remember, Despotism allows 2 MPs per town. Use them! ;)

9) 1790BC
Persepolis barracks->spearman. The spearman will complete on the same turn that Persepolis grows to 5 which is just fine. I'd suggest building another settler after this spear.

10) 1750BC
Horseback Riding is 1 turn away. I change the economy to 6.4.0 for +6 gold and we still get HR next turn.

I suggest sending the next settler to the yellow or red dot site (on following dot map). That river city with 2 wheat will grow fast and be a great money maker. We should work on getting a spear in every city as we continue to grow.

The Save

Red and yellow sites are top priority. Yellow would be very nice but it's not imperative.

The orange site is a bit speculative. We want our inner core first.

We will need some workers to clear all this jungle but we will have some great cities once the jungle is cleared.

Was torn between Mine at Susa, and clearing jungle, would think about clearing Jungle at Susa next,
as well as starting to clear jungle near Arbela.

ok, i am up. i got it and can play tonight. will also post tonight

prety much uneventful turn. i made a few decisions on personal experience that sould work.

Preturn -notta

Turn 1 - notta

Turn 2 -notta

Turn 3 -notta

Turn 4 -notta

Turn 5 -code of laws done, research math.

Turn 6 -immortal finished, settler next

Turn 7 -research set to nill, upgrade to immortal, immortal pillages iron, will upgrade lots of warriors and research with a big pointy stick.

Turn 8 -notta

Turn 9 -notta

Turn 10 -settler due in two

note to next player. keep persopolis as settler factory until fully expanded. we can uprade one warroir every two turns, so money wont be a huge problem.

and the save...

I don't know about the no research strategy on warlord. The AI researches so slowly that we have an opportunity to really blaze ahead in research. Getting out of despotism would be nice.

We have not saved up any money until now so this build a lot of warriors and upgrade routine will require a very long time at no research. If we concentrate on the land grab phase, well before that finishes we could be turning out a steady flow of immortals from our early cities, especially considering the shield discount we enjoy on warlord.

Either path would generally be fine. I've used both strategies. Going this far down one path and then doing a 180 won't kill us on warlord, but instead of pillaging our own road to exploit upgrades for cash I would have just finished the road to Arbela.

I think we need to decide on a single game plan that we can all work together towards. What does everyone else think?

Agreed. Was trying to follow the direction Dash had been headed, along the lines of settling the 2 zones (Grn & Red), and had noted the mention of spearmen in your previous Plut, so thought it wouldnt be to much of a set back to kick one out. Anyways, let me know what you have in mind :goodjob:

Hahahahaha-meant to say Pragma, used to calling him Dashel, sorry for the confusion there guys :crazyeye:

I'm also questioning the motivation behind changing strategies as well. I was under the impression we were pushing hard on research to reach republic and allowing immortals to come at their own pace. I am also curious as to why pillaging the iron was necessary?!

Who is the Dash fellow? Next thing you know some Zero guy will be showing up and then where will we be? :crazyeye:

if we dash to republic, WW will kill us if we get in any wars. like i said, i immortal every two turns isnt bad and wont take TOO long out of our research. i say maybe 40 turns, or 1 minimal tech cost and we can have 20 immortals, enough to easily take out the americans and maybe the babs. i think that we should go big land grab with capitol while building up warriors in secondary cities.

oh and btw, this isnt a COMPLETE turnaround. all i did was pillage one road and added 30 turns to one research while quadropling our cash flow.

if we dash to republic, WW will kill us if we get in any wars.
I've fought long term wars in Democracy on regent. War Weariness is a factor but manageable. In a Republic on warlord WW is easily managed, especially considering we're already hooking up our second lux.

I'm willing to go with this detour to some extent, but 20 immortals is ridiculous. With half that number and reinforcements on the way we would steamroll them.

What happened to our scouts? Last time I played we had 2 scouts out. Now we're not scouting at all even though we still don't know where the continent goes S or W and at the moment enemy borders aren't blocking us.

We could really use map making, guys. That island to the north looks very promising. We just started mathematics 4 turns ago. With 36 turns remaining I'm tempted to switch to map making. With research at 1 scientist it only makes more sense to go with a more expensive tech anyway. Min research on the cheapest tech available? o.O

No one irrigated Pasargadae's wines or mined their BG?! o.O

And, no, I don't want any stinkin cheese with any of that. :p ;)

Got it.
