Paradropping into unknown territory (screenshots)

I was testing paratroopers for a mod (making droppable mines - a.k.a. 'immobile paratroopers), and I gave a save to Chiefpaco, who found something funny when you paradrop into unknown territory (in the ocean).

I'll post 2 screens (2 seperate posts - I can't use the upload file feature...)

You'll notice it looks a little odd (the city, and date). That's because I'm testing it.

I haven't ever even used paratrooopers before.

Ohwell, sucks for the guy who had to jump into the ocean.

So the paratrooper just disappeared? Or did he transformed into a weeny warrior?

It seems whenever you drop a paratrooper into "unsuitable" turf they fail and dissappear. Whether its water, or a tile occupied by enemy units, or a city... poof. I don't think they shoud dissappear. They should walk, or swim, back to the nearest friendly city. They loose a turn, that's it.

I have had this same event occur with units delivered by helicopter transport.

I have not confirmed it yet, but some losses occurred in jungle and on mountain squares adjacent to barbarian villages with large.

I did not have a copy of the debug executable so I could not see at that time if the landing squares were totally unoccupied, but the result was that all units died even when combinations of infantry, paratroopers, marines, and/or settlers were used in the tests.

Not all units that attempted to land in unroaded jungles or mountains would suffer casualties but it did occur in several cases.

This does point to another key issue that still needs to be addressed in the transport options and that is to lift the hard coded block that prohibits naval units from being transported by any other unit. Deploying naval mines or surveilance bouys by helicopter airdrop should be a legitimate functions set.
