This is directed to people who believe in some sort of continuation after life on Earth.

Consider two people, Alice and Bob.

Assume Bob dies 1 year before Alice, and that both go to heaven after they have died (or hell, or some place or other).

Does Bob arrive in heaven 1 year before Alice? Does he spend 1 year in heaven before Alice gets there too? i.e. time on Earth and time in heaven are "parallel" to one another.

Or do they both get there at the same time? i.e. everyone who ever dies and goes to heaven (or hell, or some place or other) gets there at the same time.
(This may be called "Omega Event" or something like that... I forgot where I first read about this. It was a science-fiction story with "scarecrows"...)

What does your religion/philosophy/ideology say about this?

It is my belief that time does exist in heaven, although I wouldn't say it's the same as time here on earth...so, yes, the person who dies first would get to heaven first.

I was taught that heaven equals kingdom come, which won't arrive until after judgement day. Until then we are simply all dead.
This would mean, of course, that we all arrive in "heaven" at the same time and that time will transit as we are used to it.

I believe that there is a temporary state before final judgment that is important to the salvation of those who didn't have the truth on earth. I don't know if everyone gets the same amount of time there or not, but I do believe that time works differently in the next life.

I think Heaven involves concepts separate from time. So, there is actually no 'time' spent in Heaven. Bob is a spiritual being, including his experience on Earth. So is Alice. I also would think that our Earthly experience is rather insignificant.

I got most of my views regarding Heaven from CS Lewis.

I, again, don't actually believe in Heaven - but I certainly have theories.

Kairos, God's time, as opposed to Chronos. That would be my guess.

I believe the people who die are insensitive to the pasaage of time.

pboily, that is an interesting question many theologians have pondered, so why several diffeent trains of thought:
1. When we die, we either go to heaven or hell, or purgatory according to Catholics.
2. When we die we are simply dead until the day of resurrection, when everybody will rise and be judged and go to heaven or hell. So in this case everybody gets to their destinations at the same time.
3. After we die we go to a temporary resting place called Abraham's bosom - also called Paradise, or maybe these two places are different as well. Then at ressurection day we go to heaven or hell.

Frankly, from scripture I see how one could advocate any of these views, so I am undecided on which is the correct one. But I do know that it pays off to believe in Christ and be a good person, and that's all I need to know about that.

Oh, and about the passage of time in heaven and hell contra earth. I really haven't the slightest clue, but I would assume it would be the same.

That would imply that heavan is a clone of earth. :p

Time goes faster on earth relative to outer space due to its gravitational field. Ignoring relative velocities and the like, it would depend on how much mass there is in heaven and how far you are from the center of gravity.

Hey, why does he get all the attention? I made the first relativity joke.

I beleive im Reincarnation

But for the time question I would say that for one year you would perseive time the same way you did on earth. The longer you stay in heaven the faster the time goes by, when experiencing eternal life one feels time very differently that a mortal. A year for a mortal human fells like a minute for the immortal. Tme is a concept, not a law, it can be perseived in very different ways. And also in Heaven time would be irrelevent because you feel joy always thus you pay no attention to time itself ...... trust me Ive been there ! :p
