I would not call Patrick Robertson a bastion of true Christianity.

I know what you mean CH.
However, the whole concept of Christianity has a gazillion forms. And I consider none of them true ;) !

In fairness to Pat Robertson, he's saying that from a geopolitical standpoint we should off Chavez, not that God and the Bible command us to off him, and that distinguishes him from the extremist Muslim "kill the infidel" types.

I do have a great deal more respect for the Billy Graham "give to Caesar that which is Caesar's" types that avoid politics than the Nehemiah Scudder/Pat Robertson sort of evangelists.

The whole goal of Christianity is to be preaching the Gospel. not necessarily worrying about the Politics of another country. If Pat Robertson is so worry about the Venzeluans, then why does he not become a Missionary to the country and start preaching the Gospel? That is what God has commanded of us to do.

note that extremist christians not only hate atheists and muslims, they also hate liberal christians. they profess to teach love, as dooes bin Laden, however, their actions show that they hate those who disagree with them, as does bin laden.

This is a terrible idea. the whole concept of CIA offings of latin american officals in the 60's and whatnot bred vast distrust of Americans today. This would just compound the problem, and make it worse. It didnt work when we last tried coups and murders, and it wouldnt work now. I would think pat had learned his lesson

Are you serious rmsharpe (and SN?!)? Criticism does not at all mandate or even justify assassination.
The interests of the United States do justify assassination.

I think Sharpe's position has more to do with his strong believes in laissez faire capitalism, and thus his hate for a dude like Chavez, than with his support for Pat R.
Right, but I'm using him as an avatar because I liked the picture. :D

In reality, all this moron has accomplished by this public statement is to feed Chavez' paranoia, probably enhancing the authoritarian aspect of his governance.

When we start advocating the assassination of democratically elected leaders of other countries because they do not agree with our view of the world, then we have lost the way of democracy altogether, and deserve to lose the influence we hold.

Hopefully the republicans will lose numerous seats in next years elections so these idiots (meaning evangelical leaders) will stop thinking they have a clue what they are talking about when they speak of the world outside the US.
