Patch is out!!!

1.0.1.135

A minor change to the game and built 135 times. Thats a good amount of builds.

Well they made a long list of changes. If they rebuild after each significant change, this is to be expected :)

Honest question: from an overall game standpoint, would you prefer universities and the Wat to only have 1 specialist slot, or both to have 2?

Both should have two. You want the Science penalty for a warmongering beeline to be substantive. I don't see the benefit in pushing the top of the tree otherwise. With only one slot, you're better off maximizing population by pushing the bottom of the tree and taking others' luxuries away from them early on. 200H and 3GPT for a single slot isn't worthy of focus; pushing Steel and running Engineers in Workshops will be strictly better.

They don't. Another feather in Siam's cap :mischief:

Insanity.

A bug that can be exploit is that promotions can be saved if the unit attacks at least archers. I have not tried it with melee. I also really like that you can turn off no store policies and promotions in advanced start. I will prob play with stored policies and with instant promotions.

For proper balance, both should have two since the library has none now.

Lets look at Wat vs Univ.

I played Siam pre patch last night, and unless my memory was far off, Wats had just one slot. They both cost the same hammers. But a Wat is 1 gpt less maintenance (same post patch?) and gives 3 culture. This is all OK for a UB, but to have it be the only rather early building with TWO scientist slots when all others get ONE seems unbalanced to me. For some reason, the devs, increased the spec slots for only the Wat.

Yeah..Siam is the best civ now.

.. neilkaz (needing to get used to using those slow, lumbering elephants) ..

Yep..and I want to learn from your war stories of how you slap the AI's silly on Deity now post patch. So... please use Siam and own !!

Alright, I'm new to Steam, so I have a stupid question for you all:

When I started Civ V now, it shows verson 1.0.1.135, which is supposed to be the latest verson, but I didn't have to download anything. I've seen other people mention having to download a 500mb patch, and I just opened Civ V and it showed that version immediately without having to download anything. So do I really have the right version? Why do others seem to have to download something but I didn't?

Now, hurry up and get to the Renaissance era so we can tell if MCS yields still increase.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't. I was allied with Copenhagen, entered the Renaissance and did not got an alert telling me my city-state bonus had changed.

Steam automatically downloads patches unless you specifically set it not to.

Damn have been too late...

Anyways what else is cool is that:
1. decrease in open terrain is only 10% for combat

2. it is now official that AI hates u (among other things) if
- "they believe u want to win the game in the same way as they want"
- they desire wonders u have built (not all, but i have seen it)

I can tell (to my surprise) that Ghandi does not desire ur land AT ALL even if u have a city right on his borders.

Uh...... Askia's UU does not have the city penalty and still has a 30% bonus vs. cities. It is now pretty much the sexiest siege unit til artillery.

so, siam is now hands down the best Civ? GG Fireaxis. I hope they quick-fix that to A: restore yield increases per era to Maritime, and B: give the uni a second slot.

1.0.1.135

A minor change to the game and built 135 times. Thats a good amount of builds.

1.0.0.62 went to 1.0.0.621 after the maintenance patch. I doubt that they did 559 builds just to fix the savegame compatibility.

The last digit is likely not a build number.

OK, since I play Askia quite a lot can someone check out (am not home to play) what I think the attack strengths are now.

1) Horsemen 10 now down from 12 and a 33% city attack penalty which means 6.7 attack on a city rather than 12 pre patch.

2) Are knights still 18 strength? Do they have the 33% city attack penalty as well? (what about cavalry?)

3) Mandakalu.. still 18 strength and with 30% bonus that is 23.4 vs a city..very nasty compared to others especially if knights have the 33% penalty.

3a) What about horsemen upgraded to Mandakalu. Do they retain their 33% penalty?

thx .. neilkaz ..

Askia's UU still at 18:
Code:

			<MoveRate>QUADRUPED</MoveRate>

Askia's horsemen will lose the city penalty if upgraded to UU:
Code:
			<Type>PROMOTION_CITY_PENALTY</Type>
			<Description>TXT_KEY_PROMOTION_CITY_PENALTY</Description>
			<Help>TXT_KEY_PROMOTION_CITY_PENALTY_HELP</Help>
			<Sound>AS2D_IF_LEVELUP</Sound>
			<CannotBeChosen>true</CannotBeChosen>
			<CityAttack>-33</CityAttack>
			<LostWithUpgrade>true</LostWithUpgrade>

This does mean that they will GAIN the penalty if upgraded to cavalry.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't. I was allied with Copenhagen, entered the Renaissance and did not got an alert telling me my city-state bonus had changed.

Awesome.
In that case, MCS will probably be pretty balanced, excepting the ridiculous Siam rounding error.

This will be a *huge* change, and will make grassland tiles more valuable.

Now,we need to see how much they changed the cumulative food requirements by to see if populations will be smaller. Smaller total pop means less trade-route income, means much less excess gold.

theyre gonna have to fix siam, they were crazy good to begin with. which would be fine if it were one of the classically greatest civs (ie. rome, egypt, britain, america, etc.) but siam...

I'm not entirely sure if they thought about UU/UB enough. Might be they have to adjust them in the next patch.

Sadly, I'll have to avoid downloading the patch since I use mods extensively. I'd miss quite a few cool things from them. I'm very curious about the new diplo, though! :(

i can still use the mods that enabled more city states. i havent had alot of time to get sucked into a game but i have messed around in worldbuilder and the city states from the mods are still there.

Like or hate the game, this is probably the most extensive patch in Civ history (that I can remember, at least). I can't wait to get home.
