Patch is out!!!

I was having the same problem with the incomplete installation, but lschnarch suggested restarting Steam, and that is what worked for me. The steps I followed were:
1) Run the game, only to get a Completing Installation dialog that hung on 1%, followed by the error
2) Verify local files, which completed successfully
3) Run the game, ended the same time as the first time I ran it
4) Exited out of the Steam client completely so the process wasn't running
5) Restarted Steam
6) Ran CiV, installation finished and I can play now

Any chance you have the deluxe version? I'm having the same problem

Right click on Civ V in your Library, go to Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

It will then redownload any files that it screwed up the first time, worked for me. :)

It works now. All's good.

Floating Gardens:
+2 food
+1 production
+2 food to lake tiles
+15% total food (not surplus)
1 maintenance

Wooooo. I think that's top contender for UBs.

For being the first to discover El Dorado you also receive +500 gold.

Which makes the Spanish trait look more appetizing.... :p

..which, as predicted, will drive DLC sales. This is yet another example of why I detest downloaded content; the impulse towards getting people to buy it by giving them an edge in-game is quite strong.

How does that give them an "edge"? It is not an incredibly strong trait. It is, quite simply, a good one that offers unique gameplay. Really, it's pretty well balanced IMO.

I only mentioned that as so many people claimed that the Spanish trait was lackluster; Now that opinion is going to be different.

Hmm the university really just has one slot. So Siam is now officially the best civ as far as I'm concerned.

Hey, at least the best Civ has changed with the patch. :)

We'll have to see how it plays out in practice. Let's reverse it: would you get a bigger market for a downloadable civ that was more powerful than the existing ones? If so, your marketing division is going to want you to do precisely that, and there will be plenty of folks online who will defend whatever you do.

And those who will attack whatever you do.
