Patch v1.17f README is here!

I had the same problem, but after exchanging the editor, it worked ! :)

Firaxis, you screwed up again. I just wasted all evening thanks to you guys with your broken Editor. I had to uninstall and reinstall, and save files and folders and mods, and patch in the old Editor, ad nauseam. All that to get the Editor to work.

Nice job, Firaxis - not.

No wonder nothing short of Armageddon will defeat evil.

Quick question,

I have a game in progress. Can I install the 1.17 patch and continue playing, or should I finish it out and then install the patch?

-october- :scan:

I don't know if I'm the only one, but I hated that there wasn't a sentry comand. And all the other stuff sounds good too (especially the anti-flipping) :goodjob:.

Firaxis has no contact info anywhere on their website in regards to CIV3 so IM posting here. I hope someone from the game reads this.

I have bugs so far with patch 1.17

My system is a
PII400
384MB Ram
40GIG 7200 HD
13GIG 7200 HD
Windows 98 / Windows 2000
GF2PRO 64MB Card

1) When I play game and attempt to turn off music the game freezes and my system crashes.

2) When I turn sound off at beginning in intro screen it works but in the game the sound returns by iteself even though it is checked off.

3) The stack command "j" works but the pathing is horrible. If there are no roads or railroads the units just stop. In the middle of telling them to go somewhere they just stop and dont recognize unfinished areas to travel on. Extrememly frustrating, especially when you have to move them long distances.

Each week there seems to be new bugs to Civ 3. In many ways Alpha Centauri is a better game. The suggestions I have read on this website should have been included. Didn't they beta test this game?

This game has more bugs than any I have purchased with Sid's name on it. Given all the hype and the delay it should have been their best.

I will wait to see how Firaxis responds before purchasing another title.

I agree with you. This is all the result of rushing a game to market.

Seems like we all ended up as Beta playtesters - at $44.95 a game.

These Civ-natics are really easy guys to make happy!:crazyeyes

I still find CIV III a total flop. Not one of my concerns about the game seem to be addressed. As a result I still don't see any point in up-grading from CIV II to CIV III.

Having to have the CD in the drive is a MAJOR annoyance to me! Now you guys are happy the game SEARCHES for the correct drive! Good heavens! Get a life!:slay:

What is called a normal-sized map is actualy a ridiculous, Microsoft-Crap-Like Thing.:aargh3:

I don't know about you guys, but I miss the cheat menu a lot (or WOULD miss if I played this piece of garbage of a game). How can you enjoy going through the learning process of the new game, not being able to correct for mistakes? By the way, how do we build scenarios with this game, anyway? Fireaxis didn't think it worthwhile to mention the subject in the game documentation. After all, everybody knows it isn't something important to Civ players...:cringe:

Of all the money Fireaxis has been able to steal me with its CIV-trap hoarses -- Alpha Crap-saurius, and the like -- CIV III is by far the bitterest pill.
:rocket:

The way I preserve the mods: I keep a copy of the "Art" folder. Once I finish a fresh install and patch it, I simply delete the original "art" folder, and move the mod "art" folder under civ3. Hope this helps.

Another note on Civ3 patches: don't expect they can fix/perfect every thing in a patch or two. Remember Civ2? How many patches in how many years? Just have some fun. In fact, a new patch make me feel like playing a new Civ3! Yeah, some of you may think the people like me are pathetic - cheerful to play a broken game, paying to be the beta testers. The truth is I'd rather play a not-so-perfect civ game than wait 1 year longer for a near-perfect civ game. Well, that's just me... I played Civ since 1993 (civ1) and countng...

Seems you're the one who should get a life if you don't have better things to do than to complain about insignificant things like this. -Either that or get your sorry ass back to kindergarden where people are paid to listen to crap like this. (Poor baby!)

Then I suggest you log off, return the game to the store and keep your mouth shut for a while. Nobody's making you buy these games, and if you really find them ssooooooooooOOOOOOO crappy, we'd rather not hear about it.

Get a life!

Mistakes do happen at times... if you can't handle this without being such an a$$ about it, I suggest you get rid of your computer and crawl back into whatever hole you came out of...

Get a life!

Civ3 was error ridden and not ready for prime time when first released. Four months later, it's getting better but problems still remain. I rather have it than not, though, and it has given me many hours of fun.

The nocd crack seems to help with stability and directX 8.1 helps with game speed. These are critical downloads, IMO, besides, of course, the 1.17f game patch.

The one thing I personally want is the ability to see more of the screen than currently available in 1024 mode. As an alternative I changed my Windows screen area to 1152 than entered keepres=1 in the civ.ini... This is a pain and the ability to see more of the screen should be an option within Civ3. The "Video Mode=1152", in the ini, does not work at least not on my machine. All things considered this is a small gripe.

:( Hey guys... I was so happy when I heard that there was a new patch available and then I downloaded it! I can't get any of my past saved games to work after going through a few cities and changing production. I've spent the last two and a half months playing on a huge Marla's World map and I'm only at 700ad right now. Not being able to play a full turn gets real irrating. Does anyone else have the same problem or other problems? Does anyone have any suggestions, or a fix?

I have about 3 panzers and an army of panzers on a stack. I hit 'j' and chose a location. All the tanks move to the location but the leader with the flag is still at the starting point.

I think the reason this happened is that the game treats the army as four units - the three panzers you had loaded into the army and the army itself. Therefore the game just moved the panzers and not the army. However, since the army is still treated as one "unit" for the purpose of rules, the game crashed. Essentially, the army is like a transport in that units are loaded into it and the whole thing is temporarily treated as one unit in itself. I imagine that if you tried to use stack movement with loaded transports you'd get similar results. I guess this is just another thing that Firaxis has to fix in the next patch. :(

Go ahead and install the patch. Your saved game won't notice the difference, but you will. :)

Ughf... Sounds ****ty... :(
No, I haven't seen or heard of anything like this before.
My previously saved game loaded up just fine under the new patch...

Does anybody else know anything?

I don't see any mention of the "no capital = no corruption exploit". So it would seem that one can still get rid of one's capital by conquering a city when one has no cities at the moment. No corruption, even during anarchy, and no culture flipping. All for just the trouble of building a conquering force and then disbanding the capital for a turn. This exploit definitely unbalances the game and should be removed at least by the time multiplayer is out.

A few easy fixes to micromanagement were left out:

Let science production spill over to the next discovery, as in SMAC and earlier versions of Civ.

Let city production spill over to the next item in the queue, as in SMAC.

Let food production spill over into filling up the next food boxes.

If more workers are working on an action than is necessary to finish the action that turn, let the extra workers do something else, as in SMAC and earlier versions of Civ.

These 4 changes would primarily help the AI and decrease boring, check-everything-every-turn micromanagement.
