uh what happened to the change list?
 Alexman edited it out an hour ago - somehow I cannot make myself believe that this is going to make people happier

But you know there are wondrous things on the internet

Spoiler Patch v3.13 change list :

Now I assume the best and think that he edited it out because it is obsolete and not because he wants to behave like a spoiled child...

Patch v3.13 change list
We are done with the patch, but unfortunately we will not be able to release it this week as we had hoped. Believe me, I know how hard it is to wait, so here is the list of changes in the meantime.

<insert the next hundred post about "see, we didn't kiss their "feet" and look what happen" here>

I guess that will teach me not to complain about dropping $60 on a game I can't play because of no fault of my own!

If you read his bio on the Firaxis site, you'll see Alexman is a man of great education and accomplishment. It would be beneath someone like that to respond in such a childish and (as Ori shows) ineffective manner. He probably just wants to update the changelist before release of the patch.

Are we back in Jr. High School?
I don't know, perhaps we should ask the hissy-fit-throwing "I will never buy another Firaxis game until the end of time" posters.

alexman, I'm very sad to see that you did not notice/listen to what I said in my post this morning, to please not confuse the very vocal minority posting all the silly stuff here with the silent majority who appreciate your post, but you're not seeing posting incessantly because ... well, there's nothing to say.

I know it's probably the last thing you want to do now, but take a look at the unique set of posters who posted to this thread. I'm guessing you will find the large majority are appreciate, and/or at worst just politely and calmly expressing curious if there is a new ETA. Though the acerbic stuff may be a majority of the the post count, I'm betting it's from a very small minority of the list of unique users posting ...

Oh great, yet more histrionics. You do realize any Tom, Dick or Harry can just click on your name and see that you have posted to this very thread that you have successfully completed playing games ... right? So spare us the drama.

It's already announced that the new patch will be out within 72 hours. Probably less. Can at least try to keep your undies from going all in a bundle for that long?

No, it was announced that the patch may be out soon, but it may not. It is expected to be released shortly but there has been no time set when it will be released by.

Here is Alexman's post at 29-09-2007 01:56 on 'poly for those that do not want try an locate it themselves.

Alexman said:
Patch Update: We had some installer issues where different installations of the game (Gold / BTS without Warlords / Civ4 Complete / etc) gave *MOD* warnings in MP and caused problems for locked assets. It took them a while to sort out these isses, but everything seems to be OK now, so the plan is to release the patch after the weekend (Monday or Tuesday). Thanks for your patience (and please don't shoot the messenger). :scared:

I think this shows that if you treat your guests well then they will more than likely return the favor.

Yes, because holding a patch for an extra week or two because there were new bugs found in it is extremely crappy to the fans. The fans would be much happier if they released a buggy patch
HAHA OMG thats the worst PR I've ever seen .... when firaxis/take2 gets some useful information to share with the common player, and hire someone that can actually deliver messages that cant be misunderstood in 10 different ways, then I'll consider buying another product from them. Oh maybe get an official forum, with actual news...

Civ4 will be the last game I buy from these guys... unless serious changes are made.... talk about arrogant behaviour.

You've got to be kidding me. There are no deadlines in game design, that's common sense, as things can change with the discovery of new bugs and such. It's not "Arrogant" to tell you that the best they can do is give you a rough estimate.

I actually respect him for being this calm-the whining here would make me really pissed off.

I hope this acts as a lesson for Firaxis/Take 2: Don't ever tell people info about an upcoming patch, the whining isn't worth it.

The problem is not the buggy patch. The problem is, and has been, the poor standard of communication from Firaxis/alexman. If you tell a bunch of civ fanatics that their favourite game will be improved in about a week, and then that week is passed yet there has been no update from the developers, people will get annoyed without a doubt. However, by taking no more than 5 minutes to come into the thread and say something along the lines of "Sorry, but the patch has been delayed for another week" 95% of the annoyance will go. The fact that it has been over 2 weeks since the thread was started yet not a SINGLE UPDATE has come directly here from a Firaxian is extremely poor.

Well give us a freaking rough estimate instead of leaving us in the dark! CFC is the biggest Civilization forum on the internet, it would be common courtesy for a Firaxian to have posted here themself.

I actually respect him for being this calm-the whining here would make me really pissed off.

What pisses me off is ignorant fanboyism which can't realise when someone has stuffed up.

I hope this acts as a lesson for Firaxis/Take 2: Don't ever tell people info about an upcoming patch, the whining isn't worth it.

No, the lesson is that even the most fanatical fans can't put up with such crap communication. In this case, no communication would've been MUCH better than the pitiful communication we have recieved here.

I'm betting the list is just getting updated. This patch is huge. It's bound to be complicated to develope. My best guess is that the patch is ready however, they are doing tweaks to keep people from pirating the game:sad: .

Alas, I don’t want to disappoint my new friend Grimus…however...

If you read his bio on the Firaxis site, you'll see Alexman is a man of great education and accomplishment. It would be beneath someone like that to respond in such a childish and (as Ori shows) ineffective manner. He probably just wants to update the changelist before release of the patch.

leading to more conjecture about the reasons for it :gripe:

Hah! You guys annoyed alexman enough that he deleted the change list! Nice work...

He informed you this was the reason?

alexman, I'm very sad to see that you did not notice/listen to what I said in my post this morning, to please not confuse the very vocal minority posting all the silly stuff here with the silent majority who appreciate your post, but you're not seeing posting incessantly because ... well, there's nothing to say.
Why didn’t he notice or listen to you? The prevailing “claim” seems to be that he would, if a few people did not have an opinion similar to yours. And you speak for and represent somebody other than yourself (vast silent majority)? “We” are also “sad”, for the same and different reasons I suppose, so welcome to the “club”. Perhaps you think he cannot distinguish things and that is not much of a compliment.

I’m not sure this is what your constituents are looking for, but you can go back to
them and check on it. Who told you that "the best they can do is give you a rough estimate"?

We got better than that:

Sigh. I posted that because I thought maybe he deleted his entire patch list OP because he got sick of the crap. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like a reasonable conjecture when someone posts that maybe he won't post stuff like this in the future, then the next day goes and deletes a post like the one he says he might not post anymore.

No I don't unimpeachable knowledge that other CVC members that they are willing to cut slack on the timing of the release of this in interests of getting it right. It seems reasonable to interpret their early posting saying they are looking forward to it, followed by silence as the wait continued, as reasonable indication of this, but ... I guess someone who wants to parse everything I wrote like it was legalese could call anything into question. Next time I'll be sure to gather signed affidavits from everyone before posting any conclusions.

:aargh: :faint:

The patch is gonna be out tomorrow or day after. You guys should know this by now, but you keep posting. Does this debate really need to go on? I'm exiting it now, I've said all I can.

Well, you may not see this then. I reread my post and I may have been slightly rude to you and for that I am sorry. I’m no lawyer, I play the game just as you do, Nothing more, nothing less. (There is a lawyer joke in here somewhere).

The debate (and I am glad you called it that) does not really need to continue. It gets rekindled, probably about the deleted first post now to some extent, but new thoughts come in, and “units” are added to the “stack”. There are a few “leaders”, perhaps.

Eventually, the debate may come up again, with a new game, a new patch, lack of a patch and the official or unofficial communications or lack thereof involved.

I tried to stop my involvement once or twice myself but after reading a few more posts well, I chose not to. Most of the “crap”, in my view, is coming from the "apologist/fanboy" side of the house. I hesitate to use that terminology but after generally being called a "whiner" and "silly", plus "crap" and the like, not specifically by you I will mention, well that deserves a response.

I hope you would not support it if there was a punitive delete of the patch notes and Yes, that statement/threat has been called into question. If the notes were deleted for that reason, wouldn't that be a strange disservice to us all? The “good” guys and the “bad” guys, plus those that have not had a chance to see them yet? I don't think they were deleted for that reason...Yet, we don't know, so we have kind of circled back to an original point of contention now.

This is a long thread, and it has passed the time for me while I am not playing. If the patch was out, I would just be playing, but I won't start a new game or continue one without this patch; that's just my view on it.

A good and timely patch and knowing when that will be might be (or not be) could the best medicine for us all. Once again, I am sorry if I was rude to you.

Is there a Civilization IV forum site that is Official?
