Good to clarify backward save compatibility but by default the answer is yes. If no, then they would have incremented the base number (i.e., 4.00 instead of 3.13).

Hmm... Are you sure? I see the logic in that, but havent the history of civ patches tought us otherwise? I would be surprised if the patch is backwards compatible.

All you're doing is short changing the domination victory condition. That way of getting a diplo "victory" was broken, and badly needed a fix.
I beg to disagree. It's almost a domination victory indeed, but at this point, reaching domination and ending the game is just a matter of boredom, not fun. Plus with vassals and colony costs, domination on archipelago maps may just be impossible. If vassals count as team, this change is broken, as you don't need to be a bully to get vassals. Weaker nations will become yoru vassals because they ask to if you're strong and nice. If vassals don't count as team, you'll just gift cities to your vassal in order to win.
So this change seems to work against a design problem, the Apostolic Palace victory, but it also either prevents you from winning a diplomatic victory with vassals or forces you to make silly gifts of cities in order to win such a diplomatic victory.
I must still test it, but this seems totally broken. Better to fix the AP victory condition by first requesting that at least 50% of the cities or population in the world have the AP religion for instance.

Seeing the massive list of changes, it is *very* unlikely that savegame compatibility can be maintained.

I don't think you interpret Firaxis' numbering system correctly. As far as I can see, the only increase the first number if the patch is for another expansion: vanilla has 1.xx numbers, Warlords 2.xx, and BtS 3.xx numbers, regardless of savegame compatibility.

Previous major patches for Warlords and Vanilla did not maintain save compatibility, and had no such version number change. Given the extensive nature of the patch, I will be astounded if save game compatibility is maintained.

The patch does allow you to open older saves (but not other way)

The exception is for saves that locked to the older version using the locked assets option, or admin password
(in the admin password case, which is often used for PBEMs, you can just unlock the save in the old version before you install the patch, and then relock it after upgrading though)

I'm with you on this, assuming that vassals count as a team. It wouldn't be that complicated to make some simple fixes, too - say the normal number of votes to win a diplo victory (via AP or UN) is X, but one team has X + N votes, so it can vote itself a victory. Let's say that the smallest team has Y votes. Well, just up the required number of votes to X + N + Y - or something along those lines.

I've not actually been able to pull off a diplo via AP yet - the AI keeps spreading the religion around and then voting for the other AI candidate, even if they're friendly with me and only pleased with the other. :(

In general, patch looks good, though. :D Ten pages and I've still not seen a concrete ETA, though. Anybody?

If you want to win a diplomatic victory you should conduct good diplomacy with other nations. Hence the name. If you want to win by domination victory then you have to have the required pop/area. If you cba getting to this maybe you should consider a different game strategy

 I'd really appreciate to see, when Firaxis intends to finally release this patch. I just can't wait any longer!!!!!

It looks to me they basically just took solvers patch and copied it for the gameplay issues.

How about making worker/city automation actually work?

Glad to see you guys are working hard for your customers.

I should play the way I think it's fun, thank you. If I want to bully others into diplomatic victory, then I should be able to, because bullying historically works very well. And you're not addressing my points: If I am a diplomat and vassals count as team, I'm screwed. If vassals don't count as team, I can bully and use a vassal to bypass the problem, so this doesn't fix any thing any way, except making it cumbersome. It only fixes the AP victory, which probably could be fixed some other way.

As I said before I'm pretty sure not even anybody from Firaxis could give an ETA at this point. It's all up to 2K.
