The whiners should quit complaining. Whining about it isn't going to make a patch release any sooner. If Firaxis did release the patch when you wanted them to, I'm sure it would be all screwed up from not being tested enough, which would piss you off. You're only being impossible to please, can't you see that?

Whining about whiners doesn't make the whiners stop, it makes them post more in reply to your whining about their whining. :crazyeye:

That would end up being a never-ending cycle then.
That requires an intelligent analysis and proactive steps-taken, rather than a simple cause-effect relationship. I'll leave it to you which is more likely. ;)

I'm just puzzled over exactly what people were expecting in real world terms. I mean, seriously, was anyone planning their last week based on the expectation that the patch would be released? Did they have "Friday - skip work, BTS patch will be out"? Practically speaking, how exactly was anyone hurt/injured/discomforted by the fact the patch was not released?

The only real "negative" that anyone has been able to say is that it's "not good business practise". Ok, let's assume that's true. So what? What difference does it make to anyone here if Firaxis practises good business or not?

Anyone who wants to play a GOTM in BtS has to wait until the patch.

While it may not affect how many people buy BtS (because most people already have it) it may affect how likely people are to purchase the next Civ title.

I'd rather have a patch that was several weeks late, and worked properly, than have one that was released on time and was full of bugs.

Just my 2 pence.

I wouldn't care if the whining about the patch would take place in another thread in which case I would simply ignore it. But this thread was opened by alexman to release information about the upcoming patch. And it served to discuss the many changes until the whining started, which, in my opinion, completely spoils the good intent of the OP.

Rince

You overlook that the thread was started as a poll asking whether the patch was/is "Worth the Wait." Alexman invited the discussion which has ensued. He solicited opinions and he got them.

That's why I say (as I've said before), I really don't give a rat's patootie when or if the patch ever comes out. What bothers me is: (1) Alexman gave some information, but didn't follow up on this Board (props to him for eventually doing so on the other Board over the weekend; and (2) the apparent need for approval by posing a question which is impossible to answer since we can judge neither the "worth" nor the "wait" until we have the patch.

I think Firaxis could release a BETA patch, to "use at our own risk". I don't mind being a beta-tester while QA is testing the final release. If the worst thing a buggy patch can do is force me to install BTS again, I'm not concerned.
Umm, isn't this exactly Solver's patch? What more do you want? Official sanction of an unofficial patch? Isn't that an oxymoron? ;)

I think many people are expecting exactly that. It's no coincidence that when a game comes out that sick days are significantly impacted. Seriously, there is a statistically-proveable correlation of a release between something such as CIV or Halo3 and the actual production of a country. That's fascinating, to think about. How many thousand people, and those being of the most-productive people in a nation's economy, will call in sick when Halo3 comes out? Think about it.

Well, it seems Solver's patch is a bit out to date (I'm using it, though). Latest Solver's patch doesn't cover the most part of 3.13 list of changes. I think it would be great if Solver could update his patch with the latest "Firaxis denies involvement" version ;)

Around 300.000 people will skip work because of the day Halo3 comes. Fact.

Don't you wish ;)

Yeah but where do they work? Best Buy?

Edit for a quick newb question:

Where does the

Economic Left/Right: -3.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.92

thing that so many people have in their signature come from?

My message will be classified in the camp of the "whiners" I believe.
However, as in the real world, nuance is the key word here.

I think the rather long delay between Alexman's poll and the release is annoying. It's a minor annoyance, but it is still frustrating.

This thread heightened the anticipation. More anticipation = people more impatient. A timeframe in the original post would have lowered a bit the impatience.

On my part
I'm waiting for the patch to start another game (I play slowly and during short period of times. My epic or normal games lasts for weeks before they are finished). So I logically thought it wouldn't be worth it to start another game before the patch. That is annoying.

Another annoyance. I keep coming here hoping to read that the patch is finally released.

Of course, this is nothing to write home about, but I think a timeframe or an update by Firaxis would have reduced significantly the frustration felt by many of us.

Where did you get that number? It's not that I don't believe you (its probably more!), I'm just curious as to how it compares to people missing work for NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament (thats where my "fake" sick-days go) or other things... like how many people miss work when civ comes out :).

This is interesting... simply as an example. How many people, world-wide, does NASCAR impact? It's interesting, as I said.... this isn't a U.S. against other demographic, but nevertheless an interesting comparision.

It was just a joke! But you may find something in the internet for things like "how many people didn't work in the world cup opening time"!
But this number was completely random, just fooling around!

Fine, we deny your involvement.

That doesn't change the fact that you were right. How many people "call in sick" for the world cup, NCAA, NASCAR, or Halo3?

It's a bunch.

I left home for a week confident that the patch would have been published when I came back, since one week had already passed after the week we were told that the patch would not be published during "as planned"... However, there is no sign of a patch, or any news about it. To say that I find this annoying is putting it mildly; I'd change my vote if I could.

Its hard to vote based on a change list. We need the patch so we can test it and really vote :)
