JollyRoger, the reason I am posting links to arguments made by noted intellectuals is that they are a lot smarter and more graceful than anyone on this forum.
Then get them to post here.

Pinker is my favorite intellectual at the moment, I'd recommend his books.
The other intellectuals are a bit generic, but they present their arguments well and that's mostly what matters. I think that it will augment our discussion here to add their voices to our dispute. At the very least, it should serve as a splash of cold water for all of us to know that there are gods among us, intellectuals who put us all to shame. Never let your hubris get ahead of you; we here are midgets next to those titans.

Why don't you summarize their points? Posting links and requiring hours worth of homework to respond does not really foster debate. Given your admission to midgetry, I'm not sure we should trust your judgment on what constitutes a titan.

Meh. I love reading good books but smart people but nobody's perfect. Chomsky for instance believes some stupid things & is a bit arrogant & unscientific about certain beliefs.
The problem with people who study things really, really deeply is that they tend to lose out in other ways. Often the smartest among us end up being quite dumb in many ways, it doesn't help your objectivity either when you have a following.

The point is not that they are omnipotent but that they tower above anyone posting here. That is why it is not up to us frame the debate, merely to discuss it after it has happened. We lack the intelligence to have high quality debates of our own, hence the past five pages (which, while decent, are mostly just memes and cheap jokes made by people who don't watch long debates). If they were omnipotent there would be no debate at all, just a verdict.
Chomsky is far from perfect. He is a conspiracy theorist with unscientific beliefs. He believes in literal free will, for instance, and thinks that in our prehistoric past there was no organised violence at all. I don't think many other intellectuals take him seriously, asides from other linguists, in fact often when I hear him referenced it is with a note of chagrin. Apparently he regularly blunders through subjects outside of his specialty, spreading misinformation in his wake. I personally used to listen to a lot of his lectures and at first I was impressed by his eloquence, but the further I went the more I became aware of the above issues with him and I eventually gave up on him, disillusioned.

Why do you three open this thread if it makes you so upset? All I want to do is discuss the debates of intellectuals, who's opinions on these matters are widely regarded as top-notch.
No one is stopping your from discussing my opinions. Just use the search function for my relevant posts and you should be good to go.

When I have dick measuring contests with intellectuals I tend to win. Maybe because I've read so much in so many fields & heard so many opinions whereas polarized/polarizing "intellectuals" generally harden their opinions in order to become known (to become famous you must have clear & easy to understand philosophies & agendas).
Of course I'm the one with the subjective measuring stick. Every author that changes my mind is only gonna to push it 1 or 2% in a particular direction. If I totally flipped my opinions after every "deep" book I read I'd be a pretty shallow person I'd say.
