PAX Conference analysis thread

assyria - royal library. too bad they cut it before we could see it

I don't think they were going to show it. They were just going to do what they did yesterday and have an XCOM Squad take down a Giant Death Robot.

No Q&A, just a (mostly) repeat of yesterday's demo. Genuinely new information was limited to Brazil's UA (Golden Ages (called Carnivals for Brazil) boost Tourism output (2x?)) and Assyrian UB (Royal Library - no other details).

Another new item that I did not see yesterday.... when they were hovering over the Tourism bonus, it showed a bonus for having the same religion in a certain percentage of cities. Went by too fast to catch the whole thing live.

Is there a video from latest PAX Civ segment on YouTube already? I'm eager to see...

Same here, I was unable to watch it unfortunately. I saw the first demo revealing Brazil, but not this latest footage.

At this stage I no longer know fi XCOM is an actual new unit or is it just a joke.

I'd personally would prefer without it because I can't help but feel the subtle advertising.

Is there a video of the PAX panel of the stuff before they started talking about the games (like when they discussed the proto type civ 5 and the Pueblo, etc.). All the video links I've found only include the second half of the panel when they showed the demo.

my guess is that it works by amount of culture generated. it makes sense that great artists were influenced by a rich culture and that you generate a defensive culture before gaining the ability to make an offensive culture

That was my thought as well. I wonder how the Great Artists will work with Social Policies. Will you get to pick either a Great Artist or a Social Policy at the same time, or will they happen at different times?

I wonder if they have gotten rid of the per city penalty for culture, it was a bit of a clumsy construct. Now that cultural buildings don't seem to create much culture unless you put a Great Work in them, the limited ability to generate Great Works would stop going wide from having a massive effect on the culture game. In G&K, building an Amphitheater would give you 6 culture if you fill the Artist slot. In BNW, you'll only get one unless you can create a Great Work, in which case you get 3 IIRC.
