Aleexis laughed with Yegor, a Boyar near the Carpathians. "That's a good one my friend. Anymore?"
"Oh yes, your highness," said the aged man, his smile wrinkled his aged face like toughened leather, but his hair was still black and his grip on Aleexis' shoulder was still strong,"Have you heard the one about the Poles?"
"Oh no, another one about the Poles!" Mocked the princling, "May their armored horses not collapse from exhaustion, eh?"
The two laughed again, looking over the battlements. To the west lay one of the many passes that snaked through the mountains.
"Well, my friend, I be you haven't heard why I live here instead of closer to the river, did you?"
"Please tell!"
"Well, back in the day before Hungary was here. There were a tribe over yonder that claimed that name."
"Oh?"
"Right, well, when they heard Hungary declared independence. They jumped for joy and began to party. Unfortunately, their idea of partying back then were like the Tartars: On the horses they jump to raid the nearest town. My great grand-father took care of them, he did. Caught their cavalry inside these walls raping and burning. One charge through the main street sent the last on their journey to their freed home. Ol'Vladimir then gave this fort to him for his duties."
"Good thing peace now reigns here. We can stay here all year without any fighting and where I can have some peace and quiet. I always wanted to perfect my riding."
Suddenly, from the pass blew a horn. The two men stood up and watched as a small armoured party rode through the pass to the front of the fort. "Here is a message to the Good Lord of Volynia from the Mighty King of Hungary? Who shall receive it?"
"I, Princling Aleexis Yurivitch, shall receive your message! Give it."
"Jan, King of Hungary, is displeased with your actions in Lithuania! He knows that you know of his pact with them, and demands you to withdraw your troops! Already the mightly lord has contemplated the punishment for transgression: War! Yet his mercy has given you one chance to retreat, for if news comes that you didn't, then he graves of your people will be shallow!"
"What shall we do? We can't face the armies of Hungary yet?" Whispered Aleexis to Yegor.
Yegor looked down, "Peace cannot be demanded like that. News travels slow, and even if he waits for two weeks worth of news for a white peace, it will take nearly a month for that news to arrive at the Hungarian Court. Tell them that you will relay the message to your father. It will buy us time and let the more experienced figure this out while you learn."
"Thank you friend" whispered the young princling, then he stood, proud and shouted back, "We understand your alliance with the Pagan Lithuanians, oh 'Christian' King of Hungary! We will consider your offer but will do as for what is best. We will inform you of our own choice in due time."
"Slurs do not determine politcalics, Princling, action does." then, with a turn of his heels, the envoy and his compliment rode back. In the distance were what might simply be another woodpecker, but also might be the boots of war. "Ye heard him! Saddle horses for a messanger right away!" Shouted Yegor. Aleexis, however, kept his eyes on the retreating company.

I think NESing is taking a bit too much time for me, so I'm withdrawing from most NESes I'm in except a couple to stay in touch with some people (I really like this game in particular almost as much as Fading Heavens, but it is kind of stressful given some factors not related to the game per se).
Consider [Duke's Lithuania] open, and good luck with the game : )
My recommendations for this round if anyone takes it over is to use the current position somehow to one's advantage and/or find some way to link up while maxing out purchases (went a bit light last round as I presumed max expenditures, but a maxed out purchase this round should go about even with the budget if losses are about 35 state companies + whatever levies).
I don't mind waiting for LittleBoots for another round. He's a great player suited for Italy.
