PH12: Men in Tights

Nice turns, we can start building cats! :p But let's wait to get full stationary discount for spies in the future.

I started Parthenon in Gisborne, deciding that it would have to go faster than SoZ - we aren't the only one to have Poly. It's due in 11 turns by the end of the set.

Pantheon is moved to Aesthestics in bts

Hopefully you get your RL sorted.

My GF didn't appreciate too much my MP time last saturday so RL is getting painful
i've always found a healthy shot of whiskey keeps them occupied while you MP ~ either that or they slur so much, you can't understand them anyway ~ silly girls!

good turns ~ we finally are going for the culture part of the game. I would think we'd want to try and build just about every wonder we can, no? What's the wonder that gives an extra +2 culture per specialist? Sistine?? that's something we need!

Ok should have played and reported by tomorrow night. (Maybe even tonight if I am not still working at 10:15pm [pissed])

From looking at the game in the short term plan for next set is

1. Hire Spys in the last couple of cities that can support them
2. Get Cracking on Wonders urgently (we must win by culture after all)
3. Start religion spread in our cities (see above)
4. Opprtunistic tech stealing et al from the Big Dogs.

What I am not clear on is for beyond the next 10 turns (so i think we have time to debate)
1 How much do we want to have a decent sized army for a non-phony war versus score leaders if the opprtunity arises, which sits nicely with

2. At the moment Representation is good for us but as we move away from self research to stealing do we wnat to build the garrisons to raise our happy cap (most cities are there) through HR?

Ralph

We should remember what GP we need for culture corps. As we have no way to guarantee popping the right kind of GP via tech, and also might end up with very messy GPP pools because of wonders, i would concider holding off the right kind of GP if we happen to pop one...

Basicly we can use one of each GP for a useful Copr, with the exception of Prophets/Spys: Merchant for Sushi, Engineer for Cre-Con, Artist for Jewellers. Optional - a Scientist for Aluminium, which could provide Cre-Con with more Ressources.

@pholk & every1 else
I think things will work out, though it might take some time.
Appreciate your support guys!
And as you see, while at work I can't get myself out of lurking status anyway

Well a short report for a short and quiet turnset..

IHT

Hire Spies in Forest Camp and Sherwood.

Queue up Statue of Zeus in capital so it get the chop hammers from the mine being dug.

310 AD Loxley finishes its catapult and starts a confusing missionary as we need to spread religions and get some culture buildings going.
Forest camp will pump catapults for a bit to build a decent stack.

325 AD Max discount but first currency steal fails.. Will have to wait a few turns for the other spy to get max discount.

firstfails.jpg

370Ad this time it works and we then

2ndsucceeds.jpg

Gift it to Caesar (look I know he gave us some cash but it was a complete steal and Robin Hood was sustained by the gifts and goodwill of his downtrodden neighbours)

freegift.jpg

385AD Steal philosophy ummm nice but can only give it to Fred as most others don’t have prerequisites for it..

philosophy.jpg

Successfully spread confusing joy

confuspread.jpg

And handover when the S of Z competes in the capital.

Here is the current tech position.

Everybody is still not at war so nothing to piggy back on

How are we in terms of score? Are still we in the " steal to Babylon and Japan , gift to others " system or the situation had changed? I thinking specifically in the Incans.....

good turns ~ looks like we're finally on our way to a culture win with that ONE wonder  as far as a 3rd city goes, it'd be nice if we *could* take the Incan capital for a third city. there's some great land up there for a good prod city :yup:

@ rolo ~ i'm playing PFS01 right now, so i can check the score situation and post in a bit

Yes, score hierarchy unchanged with Vicky and Charlemagne ahead of us and the rest behind.

Ralph

If we are unable to go to war, to get more cities (because score/whatever), we should try to emphasize culture in our border regions (by building all culture giving stuff we can get) - hopefully flipping on or two cities - we only need 3 more to have the required 9, so we have a good chance to get there without a war - if has to be.

Also we need to look into aquiring as many religions as possible, and building at leas on monastery of every one, so we can spread after Sci Method.

-------------

My Game Computer brocken down. I hope to be able to repair it (or at least pinpoint the faulty component) over weekend... But there is no way to be sure. So if i should come up, please skip me untill further notice :(

Okay, so, loading up the game, I have to remember that we’re trying for a culture win here. We desperately need to spread our religions, and get temples built, too. It looks like we’re going to need to try and get a 4th or maybe 5th religion to spread and get cathedrals.

I also reallocated our EPs a bit to make Vic and Charlemagne even as she's the only one up in tech right now, and revolted to OR for some spreading and the building bonus.

Oh, and next turn I chose a state religion  We’re hindu since most of the world is. We also were bombarded w/requests this set ~

Turn 202/750 (430 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:11:27]
First Booby:

I accepted ~ that sneer is just SO alluring

Sherwood: Hindu Missionary > Chichen Itza (751 turns)
Nottingham: Confucian Temple > Hindu Missionary (61 turns)

Turn 204/750 (460 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:13:51]
Next, Vicky came by:
Img02.jpg

I said no of course, and she and Charlemagne both declared on JC this turn. I also noticed that JC will be getting Monarchy soon so i'm giving him some EPs too. [ed note: this, however, was :smoke: ~ we can already revolt to HR so we don’t really need it.]

Barnsdale: Library > Buddhist Missionary (20 turns)

Turn 205/750 (475 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:15:56]
Loxley: Confucian Missionary > The Great Library (15 turns)
Gisborne: The Parthenon > Confucian Temple (10 turns)

Turn 206/750 (490 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:17:16]
Confucianism has spread: Nottingham

Turn 207/750 (505 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:17:40]
It was Charlemagne’s turn next:
Img03.jpg

No again. Also this turn, Fred dow'ed JC too!
Forest Camp: Buddhist Monastery > Buddhist Temple (14 turns)

Turn 208/750 (520 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:18:39]
Started off w/a visit from Fred:
Img04.jpg

And then GW:
Img05.jpg

No to Fred, and yes to GW ~ he looks so pitiful :(
Wang Anshi (Great Merchant) born in Loxley. He'll bulb MC; i'm going to wait, but maybe GAge??

Turn 209/750 (535 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:24:59]
Vicky came back again:
Img06.jpg

This I denied her. And Booby dow’s on Fred

Turn 210/750 (550 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:29:28]
Fred now needs our help:
Img07.jpg

No ~ will you people leave me alone! Oh, and GW dows JC. If anyone ever needs our help, it’s this guy ~ thematically, I think we’re bound to help. Strategically, I think it would be a disaster for us, but we’ll see ~
Nottingham: Hindu Missionary > Hindu Missionary (7 turns)
Barnsdale: Buddhist Missionary > Buddhist Missionary (20 turns)

Turn 211/750 (565 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:33:04]
We hit 2 million people this turn:
Img08.jpg

Charlie’s back:
Img09.jpg

I misclicked and accepted this, so maybe we should help JC somehow.

Hinduism has spread: Sherwood
Buddhism has spread: Gisborne

Turn 214/750 (610 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:40:50]
JC took peace w/Charlemagne

Turn 215/750 (625 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:42:03]
Again with the demanding!
Img10.jpg

Gisborne: Confucian Temple > Buddhist Temple (9 turns)

IBT:
Christianity founded in a distant land

Turn 216/750 (640 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:43:10]
booby grabs theo, and founds Christianity.
Nottingham: Hindu Missionary > Hindu Missionary (6 turns)

Turn 217/750 (655 AD) [07-Feb-2008 12:44:15]
I stopped here ~
Img11.jpg

Research: Metal Casting > Civil Service (26 Turns)

Another wonder for us:
Img12.jpg

Loxley: The Great Library > Shwedagon Paya (25 turns)

We've got 5 turns to Chicken @ Sherwood; just started Shwedagon, due in 24 turns. I started Angkor at Gisborne (36 turns) for more culture, though it was in the middle of a temple. If we need the happy face, we could swap back for 6 turns. Finally, we’ve got another GP due in Sherwoord in 4 turns w/a 66% chance of a GSpy.

Here’s the techs our opponents have:
Img13.jpg

Also notice that our opponents are going for Machinery and Feudalism ~ two techs we would do well to have.

We need to figure out what to do with the GM, and with the GSpy (if that’s what it is). I’m guessing another Scotland perhaps??

About that Great Merchant... Sushi... I know holding him off for bloody ages... :( But is there a way to guaranteee we will ever get another one ?

Bulbing MC is not that big - we can steal it as soon as someone has it. Nothing wrong with a Golden Age, but we are doing fine without as well... And in the end Corporations will be a key to culture. (No Artists, No Slider, No Cottages, remember...)

I cant however look at the map right now, so i don't remember, if we have any seafood... If we only have someting like 1 fish in the whole map... Well can as well skip Sushi then...

I still can't understand why we built the Great Library... :/ It's not like it has that great affect (our research is going to suck anyway). It just gives us almost useless Great Scientist instead of Great Spies / Artists. You also mentioned investing EP's against JC. Forgetting our variant perhaps? :)

I would also hold GM for Sushi (if we have enough seafood). We need every bit of culture we can get and acquiring anoher GM will be very hard.

afaik, that picture of MC in my post means we already researched it ;) :) Should've checked, though, what he'll bulb next ~ my bad.

GLibrary (and indeed any wonder) is good simply for the culture. It's going to be tough for us get a lot of GAs anyway, so we need some source of culture to power our cities. I also don't think there's all that much fish on the map

and I did forget the variant  and so you, too, don't forget :)
* We must take from the rich, and give to the poor. Practically speaking, this applies to score:
~ all our EPs should be concentrated on those civs which are above us in score
~ we must give in to any request from a “lower” civ (except war)
~ we can never declare war on any “lower” civ
~ once able, we must steal *something* from a “higher” rival and give it to a “lower” one

and since i'll be OoP this weekend here's another roster:

I can play next time on monday, so perhaps I can swap with someone if my turn comes before that?

I still don't see it's worth to pollute our pool with scientist points. Science and Great Scientists are least needed in this variant. Now we really need even more luck to get GA's.

But I still have high hopes on winning this, no worries there ;)

i just think we're going to be popping a lot of non-GAs anyway as we can't run any, and as rolo pointed out much, MUCH earlier, GSpy points will most likely take over and make it quite hard to push out a GA even if we devoted one city to it.

also, i noticed that we've got 3 sea resources ~ so that would be at most +6 culture ~ worth keeping the GM until that late in the game (medicine)? Also, will we be still having Esp points at that time?

I figured we could turn off Esp just as you turn off Sci in a normal game, and concentrate all commerce on culture, ie, we wouldn't be getting that tech. So, i thiink we should either see what he'll bulb next or use him for a GAge (which will help culture output and GP production). Also, don't forget a GE will grab us Creative Const. but the same tech reasoning applies there too.

I was thinking using culture slider is not allowed by the variant. In any event it will not be that effective without cottages, but if we can do it, corporations become a little bit less crucial....

3 Seafood... That's just puny...
