PH16: Guns Make a Man

Got it, and I'll take a closer look at the save a bit later.

I think we should build a couple blocker cities to the east then piss off Wvo to declare on us so we can take his land. He seems to have land much more suited for production.

This might be a bit of a challenge, as pholk mentioned on previous page that we can't enter to any foreign city before the world war :p

I thought he said we couldn't enter any tile that had an enemy city, or something like that. There wouldn't be any foreign city if it was razed. ;)

The plan!

Research Mysticm (for monuments) -> Masonry (stone quarry, Pyramids? :p) -> Hunting (elephant camp)

Capital builds an axeman while growing and then additional settler, if the block sites still available (see below).

We settle eastern site first and then try to poach western site from Willem.

Preturn

Since no one objected, I will go with the plan (and probably crash our economy by doing it!). It's only prince after all!

Switch Istanbuls granary to an axeman and sign open borders with De Gaulle, Asoka and Hammurabi. The Persians and Incas are already at each others throaths!

Turn 5

Say hello to Bursa and goodbye to our research rate! :D

PH16-004.jpg

Turn 7

Mysticm is learned and all cities except capital switch to build monuments. Hunting next.

Turn 8

Erdine whips monument...

Turn 9

...and starts much needed worker.

Turn 10

Istanbul finishes axe and starts a settler. I feel we really need to do some early landgrab because of our limited warring variant.

Turn 11

Istanbul whips the settler for 2 pop. Ankara whips the monument.

Turn 12

I'll still hold the granary in Istanbul and start a library instead. The scientists should keep our research rate going...

Turn 15

Ok, I think I've done enough already ;)

Settler is waiting at the red dot and I'm quite confident we can control the bananas once we can actually build plantations.

I also added some signs for suggested city sites, but these can wait for now. Let's hear you suggestions as well! Next sets should probably focus on defenses and infra (+Pyramids once the stone is hooked, of course :mischief:).

Or we could go nuts and poach the rice / floodplains location between Persia and India! It's only princ... Oh shut up already!

PH16-005.jpg

Indeed we should crash the economy and settle that spot between India and Persia. This is only prince after all ;) Seriously, we are running out of decent places to settle .... and we are still only @ 40% :D

My worry about settling between india and persia is that russia will cut off our two eastern cities if we do not settle red dot to complete the link of our empire.

Yeah, the Russians always causing troubles, bastards... (:p)

sorry guys ~ a virus crashed my computer on about sun or so

i'm just now getting everything together after having to wipe my drivers clean and do a complete sys recovery.

I'll need another 12hrs or so to catch up here and make up with my wife

Opps ... :hammer2: ... its the Dutch, not Russian :p ... the color confused me

Anyhow, Dutch or Russians, they can go fly kite. I settled red dot:

PH16-BC1800-Konya.jpg

Which immediately cost us 6 gpt ... our economy has officially gone down the its-just-prince drain.

As if that's not enough, those ingrates that cost us so much gold to find them a new home immediately asked to join the dutch (that's when I realized it was the dutch and not the russian :p).

PH16-BC1775-join-dutch.jpg

Fat hope.

Well, fat hope for whoever that think we can settle between Perisan and Indian as well:

PH16-BC1550-no-more.jpg

Research wise, I have gotten Hunting through binary research. We needed the commerce and happiness from ivory camp. Someone mentioned masonry for the stones and pyramids. But given the dire situation we are in, I think we need iron working to work on the gems more than anything.

Here is the end turn situation:

PH16-BC1500-situation.jpg

We have to start cottaging the grasslands. We also need more workers to road the cities ... +1 commerce for trade route is better than nothing, and we need commerce desperately.

On the positive side, we are second in score :smug:

Good luck.

IW is good call, but the Pyramids were mostly planned because pholk (and myself) suggested specialist economy for this game. Not that it was written to stone or anything.

I'd probably still go for masonry / pyramids next, while whipping / chopping libraries for scientists.

Anyways, looking good! Don't sign OB with the dutch and prepare for his puny-prince-difficulty-offense once he realizes that we just robbed all the land!

C'mon pholk, that excuse is way beaten down :p

great turns all ~

I am back home -- it's feels great to have just seen all those wonders that I have been building in Civ4 for real -- Pantheon, Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, ...
i'm sure it was business, correct? I imagine you in meetings all morning, and taking pictures all afternoon. And drinking in the evening :)

Its against the spirit of the SG, only war after Gunpowder.

It is only Prince after all. :mischief:
agreed ~ if they declare, they declare and we play defense. no taking/razing of cities ~ pillaging might be okay, but i don't think it's going to happen tbh.

We should start thinking about the first world war too!

I've got it. Gimme a day to get BtS up and running (for some reason, it's not recognizing the Vanilla install right now)

sorry to tease, but i'm just collecting my thoughts here so feel free to comment and i'll be playing in about 12 hours.

So, it seems like MM, infra and worker builds are the order of the day. IW sounds good. Perhaps, too, i'll start on our last settler?? It would be a shame to lose out on that corn and have a crescent-shaped empire ~

I think you can produce the settler if you want, but not settle until you see a settling party approaching. We really cannot afford another city at this stage. At least not until we get IW in (who knows, iron might change our decision on where to settle next).

We should probably produce 1~2 axes as well, in case the dutch take the offensive earlier than we expected out of a its-just-prince-AI.

Yeah, it was a business trip. The meetings actually stretches all day long, so its meeting all day, and drinking in the evening ;) The pictures were taken the sunday before and the saturday after the meeting.

okay, so i went ahead and played 27 turns :D there was really nothing much to do except move workers along and push enter alot so . . .

right off the bat, i found out how we rank, money-wise:
IMG01.jpg

We are then bombarded by Open Border requests:
IMG02A.jpg

I take them all.

Then, we are immediately asked to cancel some deals:
IMG3.jpg

IMG4.jpg

Apparently, there will not take this lightly!

And that was teh extent of the decisions that i needed to make. Our workers connected all oru cities, and put up a fair few cottages. We're now -1 gpt @ 40% (though we're running binary science right now). I stuck us on Maths thinking we would get Construction and Engineering before heading back down the bottom of the tech tree.

The Oracle was BIFL in 275 bc ~

We DO have iron
IMG7.jpg

And Willem has lots of techs we don't:
IMG8.jpg

We've got a couple workers on the gems right now, and a settler on the way to the desert spot, with a warrior nearby for garrison duty. We should have an axe in another couple turns, but most cities are focused on commerce and growth so production is low for now.
