PH17: pholkhero and the Holy Grail

i think the plan was go for writing and get libraries up, then go for HBR and cats.

sucks Ozzie  i've been there too often!

sucks Ozzie  i've been there too often!

Laptop is just over a year old so sucks even more. It died again as I was trying to get my data of it and is cactus now, can't even boot it. Going to give Dell a friendly call today to see what they can do.

I can use my wife's laptop but gave the civ disks to a friend as 3.19 doesn't need them, I won't see him until next Wednesday so should be back one way later next week.

Should I skip myst?
Is yellow dot next target city (corn in SE).
I want to send archer to fogbust when it completes so need a consensus on city III.
I will start settler after archer in cap and try to get a road between our cities done.
Any other thoughts?
Will play in the AM
.

i like yellow dot. i tink we should also head to the other production dot in the SW by all those deer and horse. imo we need some border pops in our other cities so i say let myst finish but im the immortal virgin so. ..

agreed on myst

Sorry, been quiet for past few days, as I am extraordinarily busy past week.

Anyway, I have nothing much to add. Myst for monument seems fine, we need culture to get some resources in.

Agree that chariot rush is not feasible ... we don't have the production capability to bring the requisite amount of chariots (around 1.5~2 per archer). Let see if we can get construction and HBR fast enough.

Tech path myst->start writing
Barb Stories:
Wolfslayer was cornered in tundra/ice in NW and killed. Warrior in
East found Qin after picking up a single XP.
A couple of barbs spawned to the South of horses and I was sure we
would be pillaged. The archer on his way to fog-bust for
production/corn city tried to divert them taking out a warrior. The
barb archer is still somewhere in fog after initially looking like it was
heading for horses.
Trade: Signed Open Borders with Qin.
Builds: Built Archer and settler in capitol. Have queued a granary
with no hammers in as whipping settlers seems a waste without expansive granary but we might
not be able to afford any turns with creative and sneaky Kublai to our
immediate West. See pix below for annoying city placement form Kuba.

Monument almost complete after granary in city 2. I had put in chariot
in the queue as the area in the South probably needs a chariot to
clear barbs to prevent pillaged improvements.
Improvements: Chopped plains hill as we could lose it soon to Capac
and now chopping river grass. I felt this city needs to chop its basic
two improvements and the chariot ASAP before workers get back to
roading and improving tiles such as hooking up elephants.

That's agressive settling by KK, as if he were the human and we the AI!:)

I think we need to get some cottages going, with only 3 cities our break even point is already down to 30% slider. Also getting the elephants in a camp and our cities connected should get some priority I guess. Maybe while Moscow can't grow further we should get some more workers out first.

KK is a pain and he is always a threat to declare out of the blue unless you share religion and beauro so he is friendly.
That's why I initially didn't think this start can be played peacefully.
We need workers for sure.

nice turns, and double-dang on that settling by KK. I wonder if he's got someone to his west or he's at the end of the map (though it would seem small for, well, a small map). I know we need production, but maybe setting a commerce city to the north, by the river and FPs there will help as the next city??

10 more turns to writing ~ then onto HBR and Con??

roster:
pholkhero
fox
nocho
ozbenno >> just played
mc red >> UP NOW
talamane >> on deck

:) I think that should be Talamane UP NOW and pholk on deck

Things to do:

Promo the Moscow archer to CG1. Any ideas what i should do with the archer on the hill. Guerrilla?

Science rate is unsustainable, so i will let it slide down automatically (-10 G with 12 in the bank @ 100). Writing will take quite a while.

Will try to get a worker in the Moscow queue after granary. Moscow has been whipped to death (26 turns of anger). Should i beat a worker out of it as well? Pop reduction will kill our already weak commerce. The worker will be done without whipping at the end of my turnset.

Should i chop the chariot out in St Pete? It's a river tile and should be deforested. I will take that as a yes. ;)

Finished my turns.

@Anybody, but mc-red should be able to help me. My screenshots come out like crap, esp when i re-size them. Help! What app do you use to do this? Your resized screenshot looks so sharp.

I resize during the upload to imageshack.
They have an option to (edit:resize) on upload.
I actually don't know much about this stuff but I am guessing the other factor is choice of resize parameters as trying to keep the original aspect ratio should help.
In my case this was not possible.

Bear with me, it's been quite a while since a posted an SG turnset.

Yikes! KK has iron working since his workers are removing jungle. He will sign OB but doesn't have a religion, not sure what that does for us. I did not sign on since he did not ask.

St Pete built Stonehenge for a few turns after the chariot. With Izzy and HC, it was just a matter of time and we got 19 G out of it. Science back to 50 -4 GPT and writing in 7. St Pete is back on barracks.

Killed a barb archer at 73% odds with the chariot--he needs to heal. Run him back to St Pete. No promo, i think.

Ran our warrior scout through QSH's town. Nice place. Dual marble quarries, gold mine, etc. All walled in from those nasty barbs.

Both workers were at St Pete, one has built a farm and the other has roaded the only phant we can get right now, since we dont have iron working. Could not camp, since it is not in our borders yet.

We should try to road all improvements if possible so that we can shift military to meet barb threats and play the whack-a-mole game with them.

Granary done, worker at Moscow next turn. Agree with city north, but there is a lot of work to do with the 3 we have.

good turns, Tally ~ that was a nice call on SH for the few turns to get us Writing faster. We should try to get out two more settler i think, no? one SW for production, one N for commerce (commerce first).

And after writing, are we still all for HBR and Construction. HArchers will help a bit, too.

i've got this and PH18 to play, but i'm off tomorrow so expect a report oson.

Not really all that interesting. I did whip the monument at Novgorod straight away, killing 1 pop to a border pop :D

Our borders also popped at St Pete.
Civ4ScreenShot0000.jpg

We've got all the ivory now, and the one on the plains is camped. The road from it to Moscow *i think* is done, or just about. The corn also at Novgorod is just about farmed as well.

I grew Moscow to six and whipped a settler for 3 pop. considering we have some good tiles there, we can grow fairly quickly. maybe even send out one more settler next set.

Writing came in, and I set sights on HBR. Might get a nice HA army rolling eastward if we can...if only to pillage for a bit.

Kublai Khan kame a'kalling once we discovered writing:
Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

I decline for now. He's got no enemies yet, but i'm not sure if we should do this on Immortal... my diplomacy is terrible so left chose no and let the group decide this one.

Finally, we have archers on standby in the north for a commerce city.

There's the close "c"
Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

Or the western one right against Khan but in a nice FP zone. again, group decision here.

so, as I said, not much.

we need to figure out where to settle next. Personally, I'm incilned to settle to the west but don't want to antagonize the Mongol. Settling East might be a nice base to take away that barb city once we get some HAs.

decisions, decisions . . .

one thing that's not hard to decide is the roster:

pholkhero>> just played
fox >> UP NOW but i'm unsure of his availability currently
nocho >> on deck and ready
ozbenno
mc red
talamane

and the save . . .
