PH18: We Hates You'se

 OMG. I've never seen barb spears attack cities that early, I must admit. From a luck point of view, that really sucked, I didn't expect that (also at least partly my fault, for deciding a granary took priority over barb defence). But two barb spears before 2000BC? Increyable.

And I echo White Dragon's sentiments about the report :D

Nice turn report .

I'll take some blame. I guess I didn't respect the game settings as well as I should have. I should have dialed up archery instead of pottery :smoke:

Any thoughts on if we'll be able to pull out of this?

York didn't get nearly the barb attention of London. We could go 1CC for a while and let our teammates keep us in the game, then go on a rampage sometime around gun powder. Of course, that's how I'd play it on Monarch. This is Immortal.

*cough*dooshbag*cough* oh, sorry ~

it's dean wermer , clowney. and to think putting Fox after you would fix ANY mistakes ~ thank you for proving just how big americans can f-up everything in a matter of years.

time to change your tag back to "200 pounds of gross stupidity"

on the bright side, you've solved the "Brennus will be blocked in" problem. Ahh, cripes...idk what to do. part of me wants to see what happens, but part of me wants to really test the concept of the game ~

other thoughts? and not from you, shlub ~

BTW, is now a good time to mention that I haven't played Civ in over 2 years and that I might have trouble on tutorial difficulty?

I warned you fair and square so go suck an egg. Just because you stink too much to resurrect this game doesn't make it all my fault.

We got to move our capital for free, and onto a great commerce site! Fire up the research labs and let's get teching... :p

Thank you, Fox. To know that you couldn't have tanked any worse is, indeed, high praise. Seriously, though, Pholk, either post a roster or a new start sans rage. I don't care which.

well, i think knows he's up but i'll humor you.

By "post a roster" I was referring to your commitment to this game. I should know better than to use metaphor with a math teacher.

Not to be out-done by the barbs in Rex's reigning era, we'se lose one more city as well

PH18-BC1925-lostcity.jpg

This time it is Boudica.

(Un)fortunately, it is not capitol -- not as dramatic (or traumatic) as previous loss to the barb

Otherwise, this is a largely uninteresting set. We got to classical era:

PH18-BC1750-iron.jpg

There are 3 sources of iron I see, and as before -- we got none. Lucky Boudy got one.

Well we can always settle next city for the iron.

Mr Bismarck captured the ex-Celtics city ... and typical of him, he did not return the city to Boudy

PH18-BC1650-German.jpg

Well, to be honest, when I see Bismarck's axe heading towards that city, I sent a warrior there as well, hoping to get a free lunch should the german axe perishes and the lone barb archer is taken down to 0.1 health -- well, and I must confess I wouldn't return the city as well

Anyway, here is the map at the end of my reign:

PH18-BC1525-map.jpg

City will grow next turn, while chariot would finish next turn as well. We can go for a settler or one more chariot.

Remembering this is a team game, we can also ask Boudy to give us the iron for a while so that we can build axes.

We could also pump some forces to get back London ... but I will just forgo it and let our Emperor friends annex it into their empire.

nice set fox. and i must say, when you said we lost one more, i was expecting a loss screen...and to think i almost put on lose-two-cities ~ we'd be kaput!

I think we should focus on expanding outward as well, as quickly as possible and safe. We'll need to set up a HUGE defensive city i think right at the outskirts of the "X". Alternately (which may be better) is to let the AI settle it, and pour his units into it defending it and we can back them up with our own army. i can't see the AI putting his units in our city.

oh, and i got it, too.

Crickets crickets chirp crickets. Fox, you gonna start yelling at Pholk?

quothe the rexen, Ever-bore! [file that name]

So, you'd think this game would be more exciting...but in my competent hands they weren't.... ;) :)

I whipped out a settler at york and discovered something interesting while attempting to pillage up at london
Civ4ScreenShot0005.jpg

moving the warrior onto and off of that marked square gets the spear to exit the city to guard, but then retreats back to the city when the warrior leaves (but has YET to attack in several maneuvers). This way, the spear can stay unhealed and that chariot can take it out. London only still has a warrior and now a worker. We *may* get that back if we play our cards right.

I built a settler (or whipped, i forget) and sent it west. Not sure where the optimum place is to settle right now. Here's where it is:
Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

I like there for the iron, but i've marked other sites nearby. Particularly one in the "X" which we can NOT defend. There are barb axes now around, so another chariot is about to be done at York. I'd risk sending it north to take back London and maybe whip one to send west to defend against axes.

also, egyptian war chariots were spinning around our area. Maybe a fight'll start soon.

alright, hopefully we can hold onto this next city. Rex doesn't play for a good number of turns, so let's prepare well in advance this time. More chariots, i think, getting that iron on line, and pumping out more settlers is the order of the day. I'd like to at least by on par with the AI in terms of cities.

Otherwise, we might as well focus on spitting out Great People and such. Math is almost done ~ whereto next? Kept that w/o really thinking about it, but Construction??

This is a tentative got it, however, what sorta plan do we have? Without anything but warriors and way out in front like that the barbs are gonna be everywhere. I don't think we can hold a newly founded city. Also, with all those "enemy" troops around, I am worried about them taking back the capital. Wouldn't HA's be a safer bet then trying to hold onto a new city with warriors and chariots against spears, axes, & archers?

I am at a loss here on what exactly to do so if anyone has some suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

I also think the new city will get hammered that close to the fog of war. Still, a choke point can be easy to defend, but not with mounted units and warriors. Do we still not have archers?

We still don't have archery, and with IW in, and iron hooking up, I wouldn't waste turns getting it.

In any case, on the very unlikely case of the roster coming back to me in a week or so, please skip me. For those who knew my actual location, you should also know that I need to serve my country once in a while. Hence, I am now back to the military for these 10 days or so, or I called it returning to "starfleet academy". I am too tired to be playing civ. While it is unlikely for me to be UP so soon (with Rex and Pholk on the roster ), it also meant I may not be contributing too much in terms of suggestion/comments/fox-gripe for these few days as well.
