Pirates and their effects on the industry, where is the data from?

Usually the most reliable data-gather are actually the ISP, which are not obligated under US laws to hand them out easily.

There are actual cases of some third party investigators inflating the data to suit companies needs to lobby claims against pvp trackers.

If your ISP is gathering data on what you are actually downloading (versus just the protocol you're using) then I would seriously consider finding another ISP. Any ISP that is inspecting packets vs just gathering protocol metrics is in serious breach of my trust.

Well some ISPs (I think mine does) have traffic shaping. Which slows down bittorrent traffic.

I dont care what they think, but I think my torrents are more important than FarmVille or whatever.

Yes, I would buy all the games I currently download.

.

It's called throttling.

Well I can't think of any that doesn't do it.

I am just fortunate that my ISP haven't yet disclosed any personal information to any copyright holder, or groups that represent them.

No, it actually is called traffic shaping. Throttling is the colloquial term for it yes, but properly that's not what it's called.

It's only a matter of time until they do.

Yeah. I have the thing encrypted so they dont throttle it but I read thats not very good for hiding things.

An actually encrypted connecting is very good for hiding what exactly your traffic is. SSH is pretty well secure for most applications.

Im pretty sure you mean the 'encryption' option your torrent client gives you though which is all but useless. Everyone needs to have it on for that to actually work.

Well its just the built-in one uTorrent has. I dunno. I noticed a speed increase after I turned it on but I might have been imagining things.

We dont have Bell here. We have Eastlink and Aliant. There also used to be something called MTT (its name is still on a few payphones and towers and things in town) but it doesnt exist anymore.

EDIT: My mom says that MTT is now Aliant. They changed the name or something.

Eh. I didnt know that.
