Playable Byzantines in RFC 600AD

so only 2 days more!!!:D

It depends, I won't be able to do any work after this Sunday until next Friday and will probably be obsessed with RFC Random(actually I already am) by then but hopefully I'll give it a look today or tomorrow. ijnavy should also be working on it so you might want his info.

Are u guys almost finished with the modcomp yet?

I would think that adding the Byzantines, along with other missing civs, like Celts, Zulu, Koreans, etc. (and maybe a Native American civ??) could be doable without too much worry of overcrowding if the turns and calender is extended. Simply make the ancient and classical eras longer to give these other civs more time to be playable b4 their eventual collapses by the rise of new civs. For example, for the Celts this would be France and Germany, or it could be accelerated along by very aggressive tactics by a Viking player.

Well I'm almost finished with the Byzantines. I finally figured out the dll and the first version should be up this weekend. I'm planning on adding other civs that people want (now that I know how to, it should not take long). I think that if you put the computer graphics to low, you should be able to play with more civs without making it too slow.

wow, well done ijnavy!

So it wasn't as simple as just changing the playableciv value from 0 to 1 in the worldbuildersave file? :)

Just asking because I wanted to play as Venice in the 600 AD start. I attempted that by starting a new 600AD game as the Chinese, making Venice a Roman city via the world editor, saving the world builder saved map and then editing that file to make the Romans flagged as playable civ. The result, unfortunately, seemed to be ALL civs becoming playable, and the Romans starting off with nothing but a catapult in the Arctic. Puzzling.

Anyway, although I'd never argue for them being included in the official version, I'd love to be able to play as Venice in the 600 AD start and would appreciate any advice/help in making it happen.

I have no idea why that would happen, changing the worldbuildersave file can sometimes have confusing results.

Well you would need to decide many things including when and where they spawn, UHV, Unique powers, what they start with, and more. Then opening the python files and looking through them and finding what you need to change/add. Then opening the dll and changing/adding some more values. It's hard if you've never did it before. I'm thinking of open a thread where people can request new civs.

Well I don't mind not having unique powers or UHV (I can give myself my own goals) and Venice can plausibly start at 600 AD, so it looks like I don't need to bother with the proper coding stuff.

I'll just keep experimenting with the worldbuildersave till I figure out what went wrong.

Your awesome ijnavy, how did you finally deal with the code, I could modify it but could never figure out how to compile it and have never had the time to try and understand how compiling works(it's complicated!). Anyway, great job I'm looking forward to playing this.;)

is Rhye no longer active? Or is he just not really participating in this particular endeavor? (which is OK by me)

He's already done that--I almost get Toku to open borders every time in RFC RAND.

So when can we expect it to come out? and did you make the Ancient and Classical ages longer because I think that would also REALLY help.:)

Probably tomorrow or Sunday. No, I did'nt change the speed, I would have to change some spawn dates, barbarian spanings and much more. The Byzantines start at 390 AD and if they are not played by a human, will probably co0llapse with the spawn of the Ottomans.

Later debatable
UHV:
1. Make Constantinople the most cultural city in 1000.
2. Control Egypt, Italy, and Carthage by 1000.
3. Control Balkans, Anatolia, Levant, and Egypt in 1500.

UP: The power of the emperor: Cannot have civil war.

sounds good!:),

so you didn't change anything execept adding in a Byzantine Civilization?

and what about city placement, will city be built with the correct names

oh and you listed control egypt twice;)

and when you mean cannot have civil war does that mean your empire can never collapse?

Venice would be a tough game....

That is SO true

I have a question, when you figured the code did you do it yourself or did you find some documentation somewhere?

What do you guys use to compile the C++ code?

I believe he used this:

@ijnavy: How did you get around the "Final_Release" not found? This is the error that I keep getting every time. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm eager to start coding and will assist with the addition of civilizations to RFC if necessary.

@3Miro: I assume your asking this in regards to RFC Europe, right? I posted a link up top which I'm pretty sure ijnavy used. This is the thread he was using, and I was trying to use it to no avail.
