Please Read: Welcome to the C-IV GOTM

Run our Asset Checker and email the results to the GOTM Staff. It'll inform both you and them what is wrong.

Okay, ran it and got some errors:

Vanilla Files - Path: C:\Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4

Vanilla: Assets\CvGameCoreDLL.dll <-- Error: Files do not Match

* * * Vanilla: No Errors were found * * *

I'll Email them to the GOTM Staff once I locate the Contact information.
Thanks, and let me know if the above means anything to you.

Your dll file doesn't match. Do you have BTS installed? If not, please update your CvGameCoreDLL.dll using the ones in this zip file.

Nope, it's the Civ4 I got for Christmas from my wife's family two years ago, probably the pirst pressing of the disk after the Special Boxed edition. No add ons, it's clean.
But I'm replacing the files and trying it again now.
Thank you for the special attention.
You guys still rock after all these years.

Your path statement is off too. Did you let the game install itself, or did you pick the location to install? You might run the checker again after you swap the dll file.

I installed to C:\Games Instead of the reccomended.
I route all my games out of Program Files so that I can maintenence them seperately.
I replaced the file and ran the checker and got no errors this time.
I'm gonna try the GOTM again, thanks and I'll be right back.

Methos, the game just loaded and it looks like I'm ready to play.
I wonder how that file got corrupted.

Anyway, thank you for the help. I knew I was missing the Civfanatics family for a reason, and it's folks like you.
Thanks!!!

I wonder how that file got corrupted.

It wasn't corrupted. The BTS expansion modified the vanilla and warlords dll files and since you don't have BTS, you don't have the most up to date dll file. The file you swapped is the up to date one.

No problem and good luck!

OldieMagee needed the file because he didn't have BTS. You do have BTS and as I recall it's correctly installed. That file is needed for people who don't have BTS. Basically BTS modifies the vanilla and warlords files when you install and update BTS. Since you have BTS, you shouldn't need the file.

What problem are you getting?

I do not want to go through the headache of installing another game atm.. I have a fairly slow connection and do not want to have to sit for hours getting it to the correct patch (I'm going to wait until the next "final" patch comes out first)

I'd kinda like to play this tonight so.. if it is not too difficult can you tell me what I need to do?

I'm at work, so I'll jump in every now and then. I believe this is the zip file you need. It should contain the dll files that you have to swap out with your current vanilla and warlords files. Make sure you don't copy over the current dll files, just in case there is a problem. First copy the current dll files to a safe location and than install the dll files from the zip file.

I can't remember which patch it is that updates the vanilla and warlords dll files.

I think it was BtS 3.13 that modded the vanilla and Warlords DLLs.

I loaded the dang game.. then dl'ed the 8000000mb patch.. that fixed it.. thanks for the help

As I recall you have Vista, so I strongly suggest you check out the Vista fixes tab before starting either a xOTM or HOF game. Vista tends to be a little stubborn.

Once you believe you have the settings correct, I suggest submitting a test game just to make sure. It's upsetting when you submit what you believe to be a valid game only to find your Vista settings weren't correct and the game gets rejected. Plus, it only takes a couple minutes. As a test game use a duel size marathon conquest game on chieftain with a single opponent. If you're really unlucky it'll take 15 to 20 turns to complete. Submit it and then PM myself, or Denniz/Tone and we'll let you know whether your settings are correct.

will it change my vanilla set-up?

That's what I'm remembering. I thought we had worked through this before, but that must have been for vanilla. My apologies. Vanilla should still be good.

I'm still not playing BTS until they patch it

You might as well wait until the patch is released and then we'll make sure BTS is setup correctly.
