Polish Civ

I have the Poles in my mod too because Eastern Europe is not filled at all. From Germany to Russia there is nothing. I use a large map of Europe so it makes a difference. Hungary would be nice too. Or Serbia. Go Europe!

Well maybe there's a lot of European Civs because there is a lot of Civilisations that are European in Origin?

Brazil is much better than Pole... If agriculture is an argument for the Poles, than it should also be an argument for Brazil!

Ok, how to say this without it sounding like anti-polish jokes

They kinda fall under...every other european civ. I mean, it usually was more that they were a battlefield
Not for lack of trying. Nothing against poles. Their geography though, makes them easy to conquer, so everybody rolls over it on their way to something else. They had more of an influence as a tool or aid to another country than their own.

At least, that's what I've gained from being a bit of a Russian history and war buff. But to each his own. It's a worthy choice, but I believe some others are more needed, and Europe is already kinda full.

Wow, I probably sounded very anti-polish there.

But oh well

Alc,

Poland was a battlefield many times, and it was dominated for most of its recent past. However, Poland was the dominant force in Europe for over a hundred years, from about 1550-1690s. The Poles halted Ottoman expansion in Europe. Also, the Poles have been culturally significant. For example, Copernicus was Polish. Their elite troops during their golden age were the envy of the world, and were widely emulated in Europe. That is why I think they should be in over Portugal and the Dutch.

When you talk about Poles, you also talk about Lithuanians as if they were part of Poland, instead Lithuania and Poland formed Federation or something like that, so Lithuania was quite independent, and besides, it was Lithuanians who conquered huge parts of Russia, not Poles:p

... there are lots of civ's that are good ideas that wont be in C3:C such as Poland or Austria, but I think people are raving too much about civ's that wont be in Civ games probably ever, (Brazil, Byzantines, Australia, etc.)

I agree with the ones that want to fill in the gaps on the world map.
I know it won't happen, but I think we need the Maori. Militaristic and Seafaring (originally Polynese).

I just think that the Poles have been historically more significant than the Portuguese or the Dutch. The Poles may have been conquered over the past few hundred years, but their golden age was greater than that of the Portuguese or the Dutch. I'm all for filling the world map, but Western Europe is already crowded and I'd rather have Poland in than the Polynesians, or for that matter, the Mayans.

No use arguing about it now - the civs for C3C are set in stone by this point...

Even if another xp came out, it probably wouldn't be in it: the whole 31 civ limit and all. I doubt they'll change that, as they probably think 31 is enough.

Maybe in Civ IV... :)

Byzantium is already in :p

Byzantium is a good choice, I think. I disagree with Portugal and the Dutch (especially the Dutch). Poland is more deserving than either of those civs.

That I'd have to disagree with. To my mind, the Netherlands are much more deserving than the door-mat of Europe. ;)

Have at look at their golden age- which usefully enough was around a hundred years or so in length. :) Up until around 1874 England and the Netherlands were closely fighting over who controlled the seas and trade upon them. Until that point the Dutch had had the strongest navy and been the centre for trade in Europe, something we wanted for ourselves. They also had a very rich culture that influenced the world a lot more than Polands has, AFAIK.

In India and the Far East they gave us a hell of a run for our money. They introduces concepts like modern governments finances or a national debt before a bumber of European countries. They had colonies and trading posts in the Far East, India, Africa, North and South America.

To my mind they're much more of what a civilization means to me in regards to Civ3 and PtW than Poland. Although I suppose it does come down to personal preferance in the end. :)

*ahem*

the dutch more deserving then Byzantium...

   :p

I think my previous threads on the subject should do to convince you, there not that old, so going back a page or two wont hurt ya, and I grow tired of having to constantley post Byzantium reasons for being included, but I'll tell you this, there is no way that the Dutch could ever hold a significant a place as the defenders of middle age europe, and the preservers of classical wisdom until the west was ready for the rennissance- those two things alone make Byzantium a civ more worthy then several in the primary game, and more worthy then most in the x-packs.
