Political Philosophy discussion

This is why discussions should always be kept focused on the mod itself, otherwise someone will hijack it to soapbox about their personal ideologies, usually with pretty awful results.
This thread IS for political crapposting.

It was created because other threads kept derailing into politics and propaganda.
I think most common stuff was like conservatism vs progressivism, socialism and social democracy vs capitalism and libertarianism, antiscience BS like climate change denialism, nuclear power being dangerous including fusion.

Yeah, thanks to cell phone cameras, the whole world knows that the "protesters" carried Nazi flags, Confederacy flags, and 3% flags. Really good crowd you're associating yourself with.

I don't know much about what kind of people the protesters in Canada are, but I know it's a large movement that has popular support, and that they are protesting against authoritarianism, which is a cause I sympathize with regardless of who may be fronting it.
What's the point in infringing on human integrity by forcing vaccines on the few unwilling when there's hundreds of millions of unvaccinated people still willing to take the vaccine.
Another point is that vaccinated are the worst spreaders of the virus because they stop being careful about following the covid restrictions, they stop socially distancing and start traveling like the pandemic is over for them, this is irresponsible behavior that can be compared to giving antibiotics to farm animals in their fodder, as it will encourage the virus to mutate so the vaccine gets even less effective against it.

I've had two vaccines myself, but I ignored the offer of a third one mainly because there's still so many who hasn't gotten the first dose that want it, but also because back then it seemed voluntary to get the dose, while now it looks more and more forced (not in my country -Norway- per say, but in very many western countries that should know better than to embrace authoritarian tendencies), so it is my little protest against countries like Austria, Greece, etc, and now also Canada it seems.

A good overview of the trend: Which countries in Europe will follow Austria and make COVID vaccines mandatory? (euronews.com article)

I think most of us here have a pretty good understanding of our differences and I would hope that we can debate them respectfully without **** slinging directly at each other. We understand not everyone on a movement is defined by others who support the same movement necessarily. And whether we agree or not, I see us as a family of folks that have all participated in a project that is not politically neutral entirely but does somewhat seek to be as honest as possible as a project, thus why we have this realm to discuss our views. We don't always avoid all judgement on the opinions of one another, but we can keep it from being personally harmful I think and have done so through numerous debates. If you can't, perhaps just tune this particular thread out a bit. We have a wide variety of outlooks and its not necessarily bad for us to discuss them. Let's just keep it from being a dumpster fire of anger pls. Sometimes even I find for the sake of peaceability and respect I don't have to fight on every disagreement.

It might also be good to remember that there are idiots on all sides. Show me one political group where there isn't at least one complete moron. If we are defined by the least intelligent member of our group, humanity is truly doomed.

Ah my bad, I thought this was meant as discussion over the various political systems in C2C. If it's meant as a general real world **** posting thread then yeah let Matt vent his conspiracy theory stuff in peace.

What's Murdoch sources? I watch news from as many sources as possible.

Watching American news has shown me how much the US actually doesn't understand Canada.
I was just watching 2 guys chatting about if Canada would prefer to join US or GB. They both agreed Canada would rather join US. One guy even said Canada would not want to live under a monarchy. Funny stuff to me. We like US for sure, but we are still part of the British Commonwealth. We'd keep more similar laws and government if we went with GB.
Also US sees this protest as right vs left. All parties in Canada were united about covid policies. That's why protest happened. People want policy change, but all parties supported the PM. Where's the democracy? Quebec does not vote for conservatives. All the Quebec flags you see are mostly liberal voters or NDP voters or The Block voters (Quebec separatists) or none voters.

I've seen lots of talk now about the protest moving to the United States if they win in Canada.
Probly a bad idea IMO. Too much guns and hate in US. This would tear them in 2. I bet Yudi and other guy live in US.

Are you guys telling me not to take corporate media seriously? Ha.
Watch the video they call conspiracy. It doesn't say much? Just nice video clips.

Can anyone defend Justin Trudeaus recent actions or covid policies/mandates?

This seems more like conspiracy to me... More government propaganda, but read between the lines.
Cops arn't gonna get rid of protestors despite pressure from government and some locals? Media + Trudeau vs everyone else? IDK.

People blocking the border in Alberta is even getting along with RCMP? Was tense a couple days ago. The people switched from a full blockade to just slowing everybody down and everything looks cool now.

Edit: The guy in this video is saying Alberta's leader needs to be voted out for trying to end the blockade. I just googled, Alberta's leader is conservative. Conservatives are the same as Liberals when it comes to covid.

This is why I like my country. People think we're chaotic. We just follow the rules when they're acceptable, and pretend to when they're not. So much easier to do stuff that way.
Frankly I have no idea if the vaccine is "good", "bad", contains phosphates or any of that. I've been dealing with a genetic chronic illness all my life, I've had to and have to put so much drugs in my body to stay alive, I've always been a "slave to big pharma" to survive. Tried getting off this stuff once, nearly died, so I can't even say it's all a conspiracy and expensive drugs are useless.
Was the vaccine rushed? Certainly: it was a race, first comers received billions no questions asked. There were over 30 vaccines in the making, now we got what, four? Not even that. Is it really surprising that the biggest and scummiest big pharmas were the first to win this race? They have their hands in the pasta pot deeper than anyone else (read: connections, lobbying, corruption, influence, etc.), so not really.
Now if there's a thing I've learned from avoiding airborne viruses all my life since as a "fragile subject", as they call us now, even a simple cold can kill you, is that masks and open windows work, crowding up close spaces with people will guarantee you to get infected. So yeah the measures suck, but they are effective to protect people to an extent. No masks should be charged for attempted manslaughter for anyone they infect. It could be me. We no longer live in an era where it's ok to tell the weak to stay closed at home so that the able bodied can go around without a mask or getting a vaccine that the remaining 91% of the country already got, damn free riders. And it wouldn't work anyway, because people need to get food, go to work, go to the hospital, etc. Deal with it already. Such egoism from no mask, no vax folks.
I was VERY into the conspiracy theories two years ago. Trump was going to get Hillary in jail, drain the swamp, then UFOs were going to come to earth and liberate us. None of that happened. After so many failed predictions, and so many years indulging near the conspiracy theory space, you can see it really just is a manufactured space to entangle people in antisocial behaviour, always peddling a variation of the same story, never delivering anything at all. I understand someone ends up there at some point in their life, I did as well. Hopefully in a few years, when vaccinated people will reproduce just as well as unvaccinated ones, no one will have lost a single neuron due to "mask hypoxia" (by the way I've lived for months with actual hypoxia, you have no idea what you're talking about if you think a mask deprives you of oxigen), and all it was is big pharma and top bureocrats are corrupt and pushed two vaccines over 30 competitors from minor companies so they were the first to pocket billions of cash, meanwhile it's a damn coronavirus which can't be stopped and restrictions are needed to minimize damage to weak people - who have a right to live just as much as strong chads with their top immune system and "unvaxxed sperm".

Small business and restaurants and more were closed for Omicron. They will be closed again when the next variant comes.
More businesses close every time a variant shows up. Lots of sad stories out there. Government seems heartless now.
Omicron must be the last round of lockdowns and restrictions.
Masks and a pointless (at this point) mandate about vaccines is less important.

We're talking restaurants and bars. It's a luxury service. I understand that for those people it is important: my family used to make a living working in a bar&restaurant they invested all we had in. Then come the 2008 crisis, it all vanished. Tough stuff, no one cared, a lifelihood destroyed. I've been on welfare ever since, so has my father, barely scraping by, no idea of what luxuries such as travelling or buying a car are, and yet I'm still here, trying to enjoy what I can of life. Life's not fair, we're slaves to circumstances.
I still think that until the virus evolves into an actually harmless variant, which omicron is not, curtailing the spread is more important than saving a couple restaurants. here there's too many of them anyway, most of the time service is poor and prices are high. Masks and vaccine are not a perfect tool, far from it, especially because most people still use masks poorly, but it's all we have.
Maybe if people saw this calamity as something we should work together to overcome without leaving behind anyone, rather than as a pit fight where who screams loudest wins at the expense of the weaker voice, we could have already left it behind us. Countries that have stronger values of community life, where people actually wear their damn masks, are dealing with this situation much better. Here in the west with our cult of individualism, competitiveness and lack of community values, we're still truggling like at the start of it. And yet it was us who said, we're free in the bindings of the law, not without them. Again, all I see is egoistic interests, and since no one ever cared to help me or my family when we had a hard time, frankly I could care less: the wheel spins, deal with it.

The weak and the strong are told to stay home when lockdowns start. It is not the weak demanding this mandate or lockdowns.
Remembering the vulnerable people will be important for sure. I have not heard new ideas to help them though.

Any ideas to curtail the virus? They say omicron spreads fast. Fighting about the vaccine won't help.
